On my class C motor home, 1999 with V10 engine when I turn the ignition key to the start position I get absolute silence, when I release the key and turn it to the start position again it always starts. I have fitted a new starter motor, new solenoid and new battery but still the problem persists. I'm scared that one time it will not crank over on the second attempt.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2003 Taurus wagon (a real babe magnet) that has 63K on it. On random occasions recently, I turn the key to start it and there is dead silence--no groans, no clicks, nada. This happened for the second time last week at a tire shop, and the technician had me hold the key in the start position while he tapped the starter with a metal rod, which worked miraculously. He showed me where the starter was and how to perform this miracle. Unfortunately it is a two-person job, and I was stranded the next evening alone at my house, and missed work the next day. Later that day it started right up like nothing had happened.
It stranded me again two days later, and nice lady in the parking lot held the key in start position while I used my cane to tap the starter as I had been shown. I took it to the dealer and explained the problem and my temporary solution, hoping they would know from this exactly how to fix it. After four days, they said they could not duplicate the problem, that the car started right up every time they tried it. Meanwhile the car I had borrowed from a friend broke down in a busy intersection, stranding me again for a short while. I went back to the dealer and brought the Ford home, figuring there isn't much to do but play the odds....Logic suggests that because tapping the starter seems to get it to go, that the problem must be in the starter. Yet the guys at the dealership wouldn't touch anything until the car refused to start for them. Where does one go (or in this case, possibly not go) from here?
Where I should start looking to solve this thing. Got in my truck to drive home at the end of the day today and noticed the radio was on. Started it up, seemed normal. Shortly after the thing started incessantly *BONG-BONG-BONG*-ing at me. Drove home, turned it off. Started pulling fuses, find the culprit, silence it.
It's no longer constantly on and it seems to have flattened out and is only doing it now when the key is in the off position, otherwise silent when running or in the normal on position. I know it's not this contact (the one in the tumbler above the release pin) that's making the problem happen, as mine is disconnected. It's definitely something in the ignition tumbler or similar that's making at least a couple of the circuits think the key is in when it shouldn't be.
I don't even have the factory service manual for this thing yet with all the electrical diagrams to figure it out. Truck is a 2001 F250 PSD Lariat CC, for what it's worth.
I have a 09 F350 Lariat SuperCrew SRW 4x4, Last night the ignition key would not turn at all. Tried wiggling the steering wheel, (noticed it wasn't locked), wiggled the shift lever (auto trans). After about an hour of "beatn and jiggling, it just started working!?? What caused this, neither does my dealers service dept. It's working fine now.
View 11 RepliesSo I have a 99 F250SD, earlier this year my wipers started going on by themselves, switch didn't seem to effect them, wouldn't turn off with the switch but would with the ignition off. Then they stopped working all together along with the washer. Checked fuses and relays, put a new switch in and still no dice. When I move the switch the wiper/washer relays do not click at all.
I've tried tracing the wires but haven't been able to find any issues there. The gem is as clean and new looking as one made yesterday. Is there a pinout test I can run on the plug into the motor? or which color wires coming out of the fuse box to check? I'd really like to get this fixed so I can drive my truck this winter.
My son has a 2003 Super Duty with auto locks, but the front wheels won't lock even when turn to locked position. Also when it's in two wheel drive the front drive shaft and axles still spin, are the hubs locked up or is it in the transfer case?
View 10 RepliesI have a 2002 F350 V10 and one night I turned the headlights on and when the ignition switch was turned to the off position the lights would go off. When the ignition switch is turned off the lights come back on. I changed the ignition switch but the problem still exists.
View 3 RepliesSince yesterday, every time I turn the key off and remove it from the ignition the truck just keeps running. Engine, radio, according and everything just like the key was still there. When I press the unlock button it shuts everything down. It is a 2014 F250 with 4500 miles on it. I don't know if I did something or what but I am confused.

Ignition does not always engage when you turn the key (we've changed the tumbler and the batteries) after sometime the truck will start. the dome lights do not work in auto anymore and every so often the steering will "grab" to the left, when I compensate it will switch to the right. I can drive from 20 - 300 miles sometimes before it does this and then it may or may not come out of it right within 5 - 20 minutes.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2000 F250 with a V10, that won't start or turn over. I replaced the solenoid on the fender well, auto store check the starter 3 times and said it was good, new battery installed and same issue of not starting.

Where and what to look at?
So, when trying to start my vehicle it doesn't even turn over. Just clicks continuously. Both of my batteries are putting out 12 Volts. I tried the old arcing my solenoid with a screw driver while key is in on position and I got a couple of turns, but it wouldn't completely turnover. My solenoid has power going to it. Checked all fuses that could coincide with this issue. Not sure where to go from here. I have an 05 Ford F-250 XLT.

View 14 RepliesSo, don't know if this is normal or not, but after lifting the rig, I'm experiencing a whole lot of these types of sounds from the leafs or the springs or whatever, whenever I start, stop, or turn. Is there an easy way to silence the noise? I've tried all sorts of lubricants on the leafs and springs, but I only get (at best) a week of muted noises. While it's only an inconvenience, it sure would be nice to have the rig be quiet again.

Last week it didn't do it at all, this morning when I am loaded and headed to Atlanta for work it wouldn't crank at all. I didn't have any starting fluid so I tried some cleaner and it would cough and just spin. I'm thinking fuel pressure but I just don't know.
View 4 RepliesI own a 2004 F-250 Super Duty V10 truck. It's always ran and started great. I don't use it often so I make it a point to start and drive it around town twice a week. The other morning I went to start it and nothing. Engine will not turn over. Tried cranking with head lights on and they stay bright. It's an automatic and I tried going between park and neutral and still nothing. I can hear the little square relays in the fuse box clicking. Could the starter just have died? How are they to replace on these?
View 14 RepliesSo I 2003 6.0 F350 that is a Dually. Been sitting in my yard for about two years now. I turn the key it just clicks and it doesn't crank. The starter solenoid is not on the firewall so I use the trick with the battery connected positive straight to the starter with the whit The starter solenoid is not on the firewall so I use the trick with the battery connected positive straight to the starter with the wire on the engine bay. It cranked for a while and that started ran rough. Then it just died. I did not start again. I did this during winter so the engine have time to cool off it was about below freezing. Done this multiple times and drove up and down in my backyard but not on the road. What could be wrong with it. Either way I put in diesel 911 and more fuel but and I change the filters with Motorcraft OEM filters. Sure that the caps were right.

I noticed recently that when I turn on the key, the vacuum pump starts running and does not go off. It seems to run continuously and will only shut off if I block the white outlet pipe with my finger. Is this normal or is the pump stuffed.
I have a 2002 F250 7.3L and it wont start. Its been sitting for the past few days in the cold because the batteries were shot but was plugged in the whole time. I replaced the batteries today and even poured diesel 911 5 hours before trying to start it in case the fuel was gelled. It cranks fine but just wont turn over.
