I'm have a 2011 6.7, 180,000. I have noticed a high pitched whistle, not an turbo whine, that disappears after the boost drops to less that the first mark on the gauge 5-10psi??? It stays consistent in tone, the mileage is good, power is good normal 6.7!!.
View 3 RepliesI'm having an issue with my 2001 F350 V10. A seriously annoying high pitched whining noise appeared a while ago, then disappeared, and has now come back.
It happens as soon as I start my truck, whether it's cold or warmed up already. it increases in pitch and loudness as I increase RPM, it also does exactly the same in neutral. As soon as I put it in gear (R, D, 2, 1) it completely disappears and will come back as soon as I shift back to P or N. Strangely, if I drive around town for a few minutes, when I get back home and shift to park the sound doesn't really come back, sometimes it will be faint but usually it's totally gone. But if I shut the truck off and turn it right back on again then it's there again.
It's coming from somewhere in the engine compartment or close but due to the nature of the sound it's very difficult to locate. I got underneath using a screwdriver as a stethoscope and listened to the transmission, transfer case, starter, oil pan and even the gastank and it doesn't sound like it's coming directly from any of them. While underneath I noticed power steering fluid leaking from the pump behind the pulley and dripping off the hose. Somehow though I don't think it's related as the sound disappears in gear and doesn't change at all when turning the wheels. I cleaned the fluid off and drove around a bit and it doesn't seem to be leaking too badly and my reservoir is totally full.
The truck otherwise is driving as good as it always has and whatever this sound is doesn't seem to be having any effect on performance (yet...) ...
I noticed my truck makes a high pitched whining noise. It does it at idle and while acceleration up to 40 mph or so. The pitch of the wine increases with RPM'S. It is not the cold start whine issue I have researched on YouTube.
It is in the cold or warmth. No difference. It's always there. My 2012 6.2 did not sound like this at all. I have crawled under the truck and it appears like it is coming from the transmission.
I have a 2011 F-350 Diesel. It started making a strange whining sound when I start it in the morning. Very random and only does it when it's 0- -4 c. Took it to the dealership and they said its the cooler fan clutch. Got it replaced yesterday, and this morning I started it up and the whining sound was back. It also had a weird vibrating sound. What it could be?
View 10 Replies2015 with a 6.2 and 1200 miles. I have a whistle coming from under the hood. I didn't here it at first with the windows up and AC on but now that its cooler I have the windows open. I only here it at 2000 RPM or under while accelerating. Doesn't seem to matter how hard I am on the pedal or how heavy the load.
Dealer is going to have to fix it but would like to get a heads up for what it could be.
2007 F-350 4X4 King Ranch... I have the 6.0 diesel. I am on the road to Houston, Tilden and San Antonio TX, and I am noticing a whistle on acceleration. I can change the tone by how hard I push down on the accelerator. I thought it was a radio issue and turned the radio off and got no change. Turned the a/c off, no change. Down hill or coasting, nothing.

whistle sounds like its on right side when driving, and left side when sitting in pass side. wife narrowed it down to the over head console sunglass pocket is where whistle is loudest.
Could the clearance lights be whistling? How does one tighten them up or add sealant to the bottom of them to seal them to the roof. Do I have to drop the front of the headliner to access them?
I have a 1999 F250 V10 SuperDuty. Just recently I had noticed some gray foam material laying on my passenger floor. Then about a week later my air vent near the passenger window is whistling really bad when I have the air on. I normally have that vent closed. Is there an easy fix for this? My guess is that the foam inside has deteriorated and broke apart.
View 2 RepliesI noticed a slight whistle last year coming from my front left hub. I pulled the hub and greased the gears as best I could and it sort of went away. Now this year it is a little louder. It only happens when the hub is locked. Is starts around 20mph and goes away at 40. Is the bearing in the hub shot or is this normal. 4x4 works fine and there is no visible excess wear on the gears. The truck has 93k.

Just the other day noticed a whistle noise or a whining noise while I'm accelerating. Sounds like its coming from from the front passenger side,not sure.
I have a '13 6.2 with 11k on it and it's started making a weird noise since the temp has turned cold. At first I noticed a slight whistle at certain rpm's but the temps were around 0 so I didn't think too much of it since stuff gets noisy the colder it gets. Today the temps were in the upper teens and I'm noticing a new sound. From around 1000-1500rpm I'm getting a whining sound that is noticeable in the cab. It's coming form the engine since it does it while sitting and I can make the sound appear by getting the engine at the correct speed. It's louder when the engine is cold but I can still notice it a bit after the engine is at operating temps. Below 1000 and above 1500 rpm there is no noise. I never really noticed it before, but since I heard the slight whining last week I've been listening more and I know that's when you start hearing noises that you normally wouldn't pay attention to.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2002 f-250 7.3 diesel, i straight piped it but only by cutting muffler off and welding a piece of pipe in its place, it is pretty loud but id like to hear the turbo more like more of a whistle, it has a pretty good whistle once i get past 1500 rpm, is there a slightly bigger turbo i could put on without putting too much strain on the 180,000 mile engine?
View 6 RepliesI have a 2001 Ford F250 V10 with about 70,000 miles on it and now the gauge indicates low pressure when my warmed up truck idles around 1000 RPM.
I went off road the other day into some mud and since then I have had my oil pressure gauge reporting low at idle and normal when moving.
I was a quart and 1/2 low on oil which I filled and the next day I changed the oil. I then had taken it Ford shop who replaced the oil sensor and said all fixed. It wasn't and I took it back in ... now the mechanic indicated it is probably the crankshaft bearing based on his experience and I should replace the engine.
This seems drastic? Wouldnt' the next step to go check/replace the oil pump?
I have a 2003 f250 with a 6.0l that at random will only build 11 psi of boost and throws a low boost input code. The egr is disconnected but not removed. Ive checked the map sensor line and tube and replaced the sensor itself. The truck also has an air raid intake. Other than that it's stock. Seriously sometimes it runs perfect for a week than will be back to only 11 psi for a day. I'm not sure if it matters but it seems that it more commonly has the issue when I'm running the air conditioning.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2006 f350 4x4 dually 6.0. The other morning when leaving for work I hard a loud air noise, like a jet. It only happens when the motor is trying to create boost. I have NO boost. No smoke. If I push the fuel pedal past 1/4, nothing. Its like its stuck and no more power at all. I have changed the boot from the turbo to the intercooler pipe. (looked like it had cracks in it).
Checked the cold pipe, no cracks seen. Check the exhaust clamps, into the turbo, they are tight. The turbo is seeping oil around the seal. I took the inlet, fresh air, pipe off. Check the turbo spool for looseness, fins, spun the wheel, ran the engine and watch to wheel. Seen no issues. Where to go now?? No coolant leaks, no oil leaks.
My 2005 Ford Freestar with 164k miles experiences a high pitched whistling noise coming from the front end after a few minutes of highway speed driving. It sounds like a tea kettle whistle. It starts out as a quick pulsed whistle then moves to a solid whistling noise. I've heard it driving straight and turning. The sound pulsates if I turn the steering wheel slightly to the left or right but seems to occur more when I turn right. The sound does not occur if van is not in motion and will stop just before car comes to rest at a stop. Three repair shops have looked at this and none of them can replicate the sound while van is on a lift but one shop did hear it during a test drive. All three shops have been unable to locate / diagnose this whistling noise. They all state brakes are in very good shape.
View 3 RepliesMy tachometer hangs out around the 600 RPM spot when I first start my truck, but lately it will end up dropping to zero when idling, and then bounce up to about the 200 RPM point when accelerating. Its not the Cam Positioning Sensor (I had that happen with my 99 7.3) and this truck runs great. I am thinking it could be at the tach.
Question is: Where does the Tachometer signal generate and does the PCM do anything with it before it sends the signal to the Tachometer? The reason for focusing on the Tach is since the engine runs and idles fine, then that tells me the PCM is receiving the correct signal from the engine and making changes accordingly. I read about a 5.4 gas engine with rain issues, but the only issues going on here is extreme cold (tonight, -15). I keep the truck garaged and when I go out, it is for purpose and then return home to a heated garage.
I have an 05 F250 Super Duty 6.0 V8 Turbo Diesel. This is my first diesel so don't know my way around it too much yet. I just don't know what could cause this problem. It sounds like a faulty sensor to me. But no engine light has come on. My oil pressure drops down to in the red zone when I brake while driving, then once I return to driving again it returns to the normal pressure. It's almost as if it has something to do with the tilt of the vehicle.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2016 Superduty. I was sitting still in the drive, engine running and Tx in Park. Following the manual's instructions, I put the Tx in Neutral, turned the 4x4 to 4x4 high and then to 4x4 low. I then pulled the to engage the electric locking rear diff. I put the Tx in Reverse with the foot still on the brake and then as I gradually lifted pressure off the brake pedal (I think) and started creeping, I heard a medium pitched grinding; not so much like spur, helical, or hypoid teeth grinding; more like cog gears. I stopped the truck and disengaged everything. Later in the day while on dirt I put her through her paces proper and all was fine. I guess I'd like to just know, given that this is my first 4x4 with so much electric shifting, what actually happened. If you are pretty sure of what I heard but are puzzled by the sequence, I could have the order of things a bit off as my brain was just about wiped completely free of all memory when I heard that sound so I may have the order of what I actually did, wrong.

There doesn't seem to be any pattern or certain time when it does it. Ive read on here about an alternator problem on these trucks. Or could it be my S&B intake?
View 13 RepliesI have a 2013 F550, v10. At idle, the oil pressure gauge drops and the red oil light comes on. If I hit the gas, the gauge pops back up. I swapped out the oil pressure switch. That didn't fix the problem.
I thought maybe the gauge was faulty, so I bought a 2 inch mechanical oil pressure gauge and hooked that up, leaving the factory gauge disconnected.
I watched the oil pressure start around 50 psi cold, and it slowly fell to 10-15 psi as it warmed up. The truck has 65k miles on it. There is no knocking, no ticking, no loss of performance.
I cannot imagine that at 65k miles, that it would be a worn engine. Right??
