I have a 2008 f350 6.4 (105,000 miles) and I am randomly getting the check charging system the batterys have a standing voltage of 13.8 and 13.9-14v (read from the ecu with scanner) both at idle and under a load. I also checked the alternator and its making 13.8-14 all the batteries are tight and there is no corrosion.

View 11 RepliesI have an '04 F-150 4 x 4 Supercrew Lariat w/ the 5.4 V-8. It has 105,832 miles on it. No issues until a week ago. Battery light and "Check Charging System" message appear 30 seconds after cranking the engine. I have replaced the battery (Ford Motorcraft), belt and alternator (Motorcraft 130 Amp). Still getting battery light and error message. I've read some post that indicate it could be a short in the fuse box.

My battery reads 12.6 with the engine off and 13.8 with it on.
2002 f350 super cab 7.3 diesel, replaced alternator because wasn't getting charge to batts, Napa guy checked batts and determined no charge, replaced alt, still no charge, have 12v at alt post with engine running or not. My ? is, is there a fuse in here somewhere that I'm missing? Went through all fuses in fuse panel all good.

View 1 RepliesOK....my gas cap (5.4 gasser) wasn't put on properly at the gas station. A couple of blocks later, the "Check Gas Cap" notice came on. I stopped a few blocks later, and installed the cap properly. The notice STILL came on. After messing with the cap 4 more times, I gave up, but the notice is still on. Do I need to have it "erased" like a code, or is there a problem with the cap? Everything LOOKS fine...
View 2 RepliesCheck Charging System message, battery-shaped idiot light, and audible beep has happened a few times over the past month or so. Yesterday it happened while my wife was driving so I had to bring it to the dealer, not to mention I drove it last night and there was constant beeping for about a minute which was pretty annoying.
But first I had the battery checked, which turned out to be OK. Also we got a new alternator 5 months ago, installed by the dealer.
Today they said they "updated the computer" whatever that means, and otherwise couldn't find anything wrong. $99.85 plus tax.
Needless to say I'm not confident that "updating the computer" has fixed it. What are the odds we get the warning again in a couple of weeks? Short of disconnecting the sensor, is there anything that can be done?
Three weeks ago I replaced my battery and serpentine belt as general maintenance before heading out on a prolonged trip. The next day I started receiving 'check charging system' whenever I turned the a/c on and the truck is at idle. Power steering becomes very hard to turn and engine feels like it is going to quit.
This is not a problem at highway speeds. Looking at the engine when the a/c is engaged, a slow down of the belt/pulley is obvious. The alternator has been removed and checked, battery checked good, and the belt is the right size/length. What could be causing this? Again it started behaving like this after a belt and battery change. There is no issue if the a/c is off...
A few days ago my check coolant additive message start popping up, 14k miles. After doing some reading it sounds like all I need to do is either have my coolant tested or get the test kit and do it myself. My confusion is which test kit to purchase. Since my truck is a 2015 PSD some people are saying that I need to buy a test kit that comes with test vials instead of using the test strips. Which test kit should I buy?
View 14 RepliesMy 05 SD started to flash tow haul mode and check gauges message came on while I was towing my car hauler trans temp gauge quit working then check engine light came on too truck runs fine disconnected batteries then re connect them ( trailer now disconnected) problem solved for about 3 mi of driving then it came back w/o trailer I'm thinking rusty trailer ball on hitch caused this maybe not a good ground for trailer tow computer? What kind of scanner etc do I need to possibly clear this problem out? I am the original owner never seen this happen with this or any other trailer I've towed.
View 3 Replies I just traded in my trusty, never had a single issue 2008 Ford F150 with 53k miles for a 2008 Ford F350 with 112k miles. I figured the extra miles were okay, because it is a diesel. I purchased the truck to pull a 31’ 12k lbs when loaded toyhauler, and I have a 14K weight distribution hitch.
Just in case this makes a difference, here is some background information. I have a 2008 Ford F350 XLT 6.4L CrewCab Long Bed. Before purchasing it, I had Ford do a performance and safety inspection. Everything came back clear, so I bought it. The day after purchasing it, I changed all the fluids for peace of mind, ie. rear diff, transfer case, transmission, motor oil & filter, fuel filter, and radiator fluid.
Here is the problem. Occasionally, the 4x4 Low light will start blinking/flashing. Sometimes it will only flash once or twice and go off, other times it will flash for 15-20 seconds and then go off. There is no pattern to when it happens other than it seems to do it mostly when slowing down or breaking. It is very sporadic. I don’t drive very far for work, so I can go an entire week without seeing the light come on, but if I hit the highway for 30-45 minutes, the light will eventually turn on.
When it flashes, occasionally, I get an RPM increase…almost like it’s trying to engage natural or shift into 4x4 low at highway speeds…which causes me concerns. I took it to Ford and after 50 miles of driving it around, they could not get the 4x4 low light to come on. They said they pulled codes but there were none to pull. They reflashed the PCM and charged me $99 to not fix my problem.
I can shift into 4x4 high and 4x4 low (with the window rolled down, I can hear the shifting from 2wd to 4wd high and then to 4wd low and back to 2wd), so I don’t think it is a blown fuse or the control module. I removed and cleaned the wire connectors to the shift motor on the transfer case, and that didn’t fix it. I was thinking about replacing the rear diff abs speed sensor in hopes that will fix it. I think that maybe it’s a wiring issue, which I wouldn’t even know where to start.
I was getting 14 mpg before the reflash and after, I am now getting 8 mpg. Does this seem right? Or is there a learning period after a reflash before my mpg gets back to normal.
Also, the automatic 4x4 drive doesn't work. I don't think its holding a vaccum. I don't think it is related to the 4x4 low light coming on when I am doing normal driving. I can use the lockers to get 4x4 to work correctly. Infact, Ford is the one that told me the auto doesn't work.
Edit: I also noticed that if I flip ON any of the upfitter switches (ie AUX 1, AUX 2, AUX 3, AUX 4) the 4x4 low light will flash constantly until turned off. I currently don't use any of the switches for anything.
Every time I put the truck in reverse, I get a "Check Rear Park Aid" message on my display.
I tried wiping all of the sensors clean, and I checked the electrical connections and all seem to be fine.
Driving the truck today I noticed mssg from info on dash " problem with trailer wiring". I wasn't hauling anything. the message went away on my next stop when a truck was turned off. On my next stop, I was pulling into a parking space truck stalled and I saw another message saying something like " please pull over safely and stop a truck." Luckily I was already parked. the truck would not start or even turn over. after about an hour truck started but brake symbol was on the dash.

View 4 RepliesAfter clearing my 2013 Avalon today, which took about 2 hours to complete, I attempted to start the car and it would/will not turn over. I waited a bit and attempted again, same result. The battery appears to be fine, all the lights and the console are working, power windows, etc. The heads up display had this message: "Check Charging System" I have check the owners manual and read something about the car being in Accessory mode. Another item referred to the fuel system being disable. None of these examples make sense.
View 4 RepliesI recently came a cross a no start issue with my truck. It is 2005 ford f350 6.0 ... Found out I have a leak in the high pressure system. When I was taking out the bolts out from the manifold I stripped out two bolts. I know ford part # w301383 is the ford bolt. But I was thinking why use that same bolt and had have that issue again later.

I bought it from a used car place in Salt Lake City and have put roughly 250 miles on it, it has 105k on it. While having 1 sled in the bed and towing a 1-place snowmobile trailer up a 8% grade my check engine light lit up. Little back story, there was a slight hiccup that I started to realize it had about a few days after purchasing it, would kind of buck a few times under normal acceleration around to 40-60 mph not every time just occasionally. Been meaning to take it to a friend to have it looked at, just been fairly busy.
Now when I was driving it back home (~8-10 miles, almost exclusively downhill) at stop light and accelerating from 0mph it would not prime the boost, I was getting almost no power until I hit 2000 rpm then all of a sudden things were fine turbo would engage I was able to drive normally. It hasn't moved in 2 days as I will not drive it until I know what is wrong with it. In doing a little research I read about turbo veins being stuck open, ignition problems, and a few other things that might pertain to what is going on with my truck. I have a buddy coming in the morning tomorrow to pull some codes with a scanner so I will have more information here shortly but I just wanted to get the conversation started on this.
I got a 2013 f350 lariat long bed. Had a flat bed put on and now my check park assist is always on.. Dealer didn't install sensors. Is there any module or anything I can do to turn this thing off?
