View 3 RepliesOkay, I've done a few topic searches and see some variations on this, but not this specific scenario. 2001 F-250 (5.4L, 4x4, auto). My daughter's truck and I wasn't home so this is the best info I have as relayed by her.
She turned the key off, the engine shut off, but all the "electrics" stayed on -- radio and a/c fan to be specific. She said that morning the truck had a dead battery so she got a jump start, leading one to suspect that the electrics stayed on the previous night as well. (?)
I had her disconnect the battery and let it sit until I got home. Of course, when I got home and reconnected the battery, everything works normally as it should. And has worked normally for a few days.
So.. any words of wisdom out there while we wait for "the next" occurrence?
Question: How easy is it to replace the key switch - do I need any special tools? Is there a way to upgrade to one which requires an encrypted RFID key? Or is there an easier fix to my problem below?
Background: On my '05 SD, I am getting a weird problem where the ignition switch chimes Key-In sometimes when there is no key. I can get this to go away by fidgeting with the key switch, but since I am going to be installing a remote start / security system, I need to fix this...
The heater blower in my 1999 F350 continues to run after the switch is turned off. I checked the relay and it is working properly. Looking for a wiring diagram showing the control circuit for the blower?
Do the heater switch controls power to the relay coil or if the switch grounds the coil to pick up the relay?
I have a 2001 f350 this morning I went to start the truck the key turn but I heard a click sound all the lights and everything came on but the truck won't start just silence I could turn the key back in the off position and put the key out but the truck is still on radios on it's like the truck is still in the run position or on position there is a lot of play between off and run but like I said the truck will not start, could be not sure if it's the ignition switch or actuator rod..
View 2 RepliesHeadlights work well w/ ignition switch off. High/low/passing all ok. When I turn the ignition switch on, there's a strange wheezing sound for a second.
When the ignition switch is on, there are no headlights.
What's the wheezing sound? Why does the power to the switch quit with the key on? The more I work on modern trucks, the more I like my 1968 f-250.
Did the upgrade to the new style mirrors the question I have is.where does the heat wire go to on the new factory switch.its a 8pin switch the pigtale from ford are all green wires so I don't know winch one to tie into and don't want to add another switch Also my 2005 was wired with heat.
View 2 RepliesThe illumination for my headlight switch and my shift-on-the-fly switch is not working. How do I replace the bulbs?
View 1 RepliesSeems like my truck won't move at 4x4 when getting into and out of parkings. Combination of low speed and turning feels like I am fighting the truck and need to apply more power to get it moving and then there are strange noises.
Is this normal behavior from 4x4 system? I think it is but just want to make sure that constant switching between 4x4 and 2x4 is normal. I was just to AWD cars before that.
My truck was involved in an accident and required a replacement front axle be installed due to damage to the housing. The truck was in four wheel drive when my wife got T-boned and drove up over the median twice to avoid a head on. The shop that did the insurance work said they replace the axle with a low mileage used unit, but since then the hub switches aren't working correctly.
I have taken it to them 4+ times to look at the issue and I keep telling them that the driver's side hub switch won't release, but I keep getting it back with the same problem. The most recent fix they came up with was to replace switches and electrical components. I am thinking that a vacuum leak in the hub may be to blame. I am taking the truck back to them again this afternoon as the 1 year warranty on the repairs is up next week.
where do the wires from the cabin aux switches end up? Are any pre wired to outside of the cab (past the firewall?).
i was wanting to install a better back up light on an aux switch but don't want to deal with running thru firewall, etc.
I got a new headlamp switch for my 2016 SD. I have the XL work truck with no fog lights. I recently added fog lights and an OEM fog light wire harness. I also got an OEM switch that pulls out to activate the fig lights because the stock switch in my truck operates the headlamps only. What I can't figure out is how to remove the switch.
Here's a photo of the new switch .....
As I pulled in to park I slid only 3 or 4 inches and just kissed a snow bank, didn't even think anything of it. An hour later truck wouldn't start until I reset the inertia switch. Man that thing is sensitive!
View 13 RepliesHaving trouble tracking down the problem with my 4wd. Its a 2003 6.0. My esof switch is not working. The 4wd light comes on when I start the truck but nothing after that. I checked fuses and the relays under the hood everything is good.
View 2 RepliesI'd like to be able to have the key in the ignition and still have the door open without the incessant dinging of the key alert. Is there any way of shutting it off without having to cut wires, etc.?
View 1 RepliesWhere I should start looking to solve this thing. Got in my truck to drive home at the end of the day today and noticed the radio was on. Started it up, seemed normal. Shortly after the thing started incessantly *BONG-BONG-BONG*-ing at me. Drove home, turned it off. Started pulling fuses, find the culprit, silence it.
It's no longer constantly on and it seems to have flattened out and is only doing it now when the key is in the off position, otherwise silent when running or in the normal on position. I know it's not this contact (the one in the tumbler above the release pin) that's making the problem happen, as mine is disconnected. It's definitely something in the ignition tumbler or similar that's making at least a couple of the circuits think the key is in when it shouldn't be.
I don't even have the factory service manual for this thing yet with all the electrical diagrams to figure it out. Truck is a 2001 F250 PSD Lariat CC, for what it's worth.
2005 F250 superduty 5.4l crewcab. When I shut the truck off and remove the keys from ignition, the chime keeps going off like the keys are still in the ignition until I turn the ignition back to the off position again.(about 1/8 of an inch.)
View 4 RepliesAll of the sudden ignition stays on aux when the key is removed. Starts and runs fine with key , also shuts off with key. However when key is removed all aux functions still work ie touchscreen reciever will not turn off, and door chime continues to ding. 2000 excursion 4x4
View 1 Replies I have a E99 f250XLT 4X4 Crew Cab PSD.
I have been on this site for the better part of 2 hours searching for my switch problem to no end. Most everything I am pulling up has to do with the lock actuators. I have a switch on the drivers side that will not lock any of my doors. The passenger side switch will work just fine as well as the key fob. All of my actuators work for all 4 doors. No issues with the dome light or door ajar light staying on.
Here is what I have done so far:
I have taken the passenger door switch off and put it on the drivers side and it will not lock the doors.
I have bought a re-manufactured driver side door lock switch and installed it and it did not lock the doors.
I have taken a jumper wire and grounding a pin on the drivers side switch harness and can get the doors to unlock but i can't get it to lock.
Where and what color wires to look for in a harness at the door kick panel or anywhere I might look for a broken wire? It is really frustrating that I can not lock my doors without using my remote.

I need to find out which sensor to replace. It looks like I need to replace Bank 1, Sensor 1, but I am not sure where it is located. My guess it's located on the manifold, but I'm not sure if it's driver or passenger side.
A friend says, "Look in the owners manual for the van and find out which cylinder is cylinder number 1. Cylinder 1 is always on Bank 1."
The owner's manual has no indication of where cylinder one is located. I do not have a service manual.
I am not highly technical, but I do think I can replace the sensor myself, or at least I would like to give it a try.
I've checked the fuses, the lights are on on the switches, but I have no power at the wires under the hood. I'm adding lights and would like to use those switches..
