I read a lot here about the best antifreeze coolant. If the truck will never, and I mean never, be exposed to freezing temperatures, do I need antifreeze? Our lowest ever temperature was 66 degrees or so.
What should we use? I have a 2004 550.
My truck had a small puddle of anti-freeze under it last week. It has been sitting for a couple of weeks with no issues until I noticed the puddle. After I cleaned it up, it hasn't leaked for a few days. I obviously can't find a source. What could have caused it to leak and then suddenly stop?
View 2 RepliesIs this normal for the GS300 to loose anti-freeze coolant in its reservoir? My 2006 GS300 had little coolant in the reservoir on Monday and I took it to my local Toyota dealer to check it out. They recommended me to do a flushing instead of draining and filling for the coolant since the previous owner never changed it. I did the flushing and they put it Toyota SLLC (pink) coolant as well as filling up the reservoir to full mark. Today I check the reservoir again and it is 1" lower. Is this normal? I check the radiator, engine, hoses but I did not see any leak. The temperature is fine, no overheating or anything.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2002 f250 super duty 4 dr w/ full lenth bed. has v10. had oil cooler problem, motor oil in coolant. fixed that, then rad started leeking, replaced that. now blowing freeze plugs on block. replaced i on drivers side rear, now popped one on pass side. whats going on? i know oil pressure is more than water, did the oil cooler leak losen the freeze plugs? What size freeze plugs they are? no parts house around here knows.
View 14 RepliesMy Ford 250 Super Duty, it is a 2008 model. I can't get it to start and the anti-theft light keeps blinking. At least i think it is an anti-theft light, a blinking red lock on the instrument panel. I bought this truck from an auction so I don't have a manual, neither do I have a key set with the push button stuff on it. Just 2 electronic keys. Someone suggested unhooking the battery overnight, and someone else suggested pressing the valet button. I found a button under the dash, I have no idea if it is the right one.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2011 F350, with a 4 inch Rancho Suspension lift. Ever since the lift kit was installed, more commonly when turning to the left than right, the anti lock brakes come on and the traction control light comes on/flashes. without even stepping on brake pedal.
It seems to happen when the wheel is at about 80% of max turning, about 15mph. Both wheel hubs and sensors have been replaced. road tested with Ford tech , he watched the speed sensor input while hooked to the computer and all sensor are reading correctly.
Today I went in a constant circle and can make it do it non stop, and when you try to press the brake pedal while the anti-lock (grinding/chattering) noise is happening, it only gets louder.
Problems my truck seems to be having for one thing sometimes when I'm going thru the gears (6 speed manual) the truck won't wind up all the way it's like it is rev limiting at about 2000 RPMS, been doing that for a while , it does that most of the time but not always. Problem #2 the anti lock lite stays on in the cluster, and just yesterday the service engine soon lite is now on, my truck is a 1999 F250 7.3 6speed manual with 77000 miles on it ...
View 1 RepliesI have a 2008 F-350. The Anti-theft light blinks rapidly and the truck will not turn over. Give it some time or take the key out of the ignition and in repeatedly and it will start. Sometimes not till the next day. I have replaced the transceiver & key. Did not fix the problem. Dealers all say: they have never seen this before. I would like to just bypass the Anti-theft system if possible. There are times I will just let it run for hours not to be stuck.
View 4 RepliesA few months ago I had a battery go bad. When I started the 2004 F250 6.0 it barely started. After that my transmission gauge became the engine coolant gauge and the engine coolant gauge became the transmission gauge. I tried disconnecting batteries but that did not work. I have the Scan Gauge tool and confirm the gauges are reading correctly but just swapped. So I'm wondering if the is a reset procedure for instrument panel.
View 7 RepliesMy truck is essentially stock except EGR DELETE. Lately I am seeing my coolant gauge in the cluster drop to zero instantly when the truck is warm. A quick glance to my edge monitor shows my ECT temp fluctuating wildly (but not stone cold) ranging from 65-190'ish degrees. The weird thing is even when it's showing low on the edge, Gauge showing nothing, it kicks my fan in. I would have thought that shouldn't happen because it's still showing a value ( very low yes) but maybe it pops into limp mode?
I am also having other gremlins like driving along all warmed up, come up to a hill and if I back out of the throttle, boost drops to zero and even with holding the pedal to retain the speed I am at, it just drops speed with no boost.. I then have to stomp on it and the boost will ramp back up. It will show something like 85% VGT but zero boost.. Is it normal to show zero boost with 66% vgt at idle in Park with no boost? Getting all sorts of codes lately. The coolant one is very intermittent (every drive several time but not every minute)..
I have noticed the last couple of days that after the truck has been running and well warmed up I will on occasion smell that sweet smell of antifreeze. I can find nothing in the interior of the cab, If I raise the hood there maybe a faint smell of antifreeze.
I have approx. 31,000 miles on the truck and a few months to go on the bumper to bumper warranty.
Does this sound like the overly popular radiator leak starting to raise it's ugly head? Is there another likely culprit?
Where do I need to be looking to locate the source of the antifreeze smell.
I bought this truck used several months back and have ran it extremely hard. It's supposedly studded and EGR deleted. The whole engine was replaced at 183,xxx by some diesel place. Anyways, while I was driving I smelled coolant and thought that was funny so I ignored it. Anyways, My livewire tuner started seeing a coolant and engine oil increase. I figured I'd go ahead and drive it home. It got to 153 F* and the coolant was around 129 F* The oil cooler has been clogging up and I just got my brand new Ford one in.
So that will be replaced sooner rather than later. When I got home, I checked the coolant level and there was nothing in it!! It was pretty much empty. So I put the water hose on it and turned the water on and after about 2 mins steam started coming out near the turbo. I mean a crapload of steam. I turned the water on again and saw that it was coming out right next to the EGR delete. It's hard to tell exactly but looks like the intake manifold??? What could it be? It's not the hose for the EGR. The degas bottle has never overflowed, there's no white smoke except on cold starts in really cold temps.
I bought the truck today (cheap) know it had this issue, oil in coolant no coolant in oil, ATF was not apparent on dip stick I'm told truck over heats.

I saw no bubbles in coolant tank when running... Need some things to check to narrow it down....
I just purchased a 2007 Ford F250 5.4l V8. I noticed the coolant reservoir was a bit low so I went out and bought some Prestone extended life universal coolant, distilled water and a hydrometer. The current Coolant I have is a yellow/gold colour, which I believe is motocraft brand. I added 150ml 1:1 of distilled water and coolant. After that I tested the temperature rating and it was off the gauge (the previous owner obviously added just coolant and no water). My plan was to drain the radiator half way and refill with distilled water. But, how to do that I came across a lot of forums saying you can't mix Prestone ELT with Motocraft coolant or it will eat away at your engine as well as create a thick goo. Is this true? Will such a small amount (75ml) cause this effect? Do I have to do a radiator flush now, or can I just continue with my plan of draining it half way? The old coolant looked pretty clean. Do you think the Prestone anti freeze has already done any damage?

View 13 Replies02 v10 SD. I found a crack in the coolant tank on my 02 Superduty. It is below the radiator cap, just above the crack where it was sealed from the factory. It runs the length of the tank, about 2 and 1/2 inches, across the front top section. Its starting to seep through,but the radiator is still holding pressure. Have any of you with the older Superduty's had this happen to your trucks? What caused or is causing it. I called the Ford dealer tonight about a new one.
View 14 RepliesAny hows I have a 08 186,000 miles with a 6.4 , my problem is it is dumping coolant out of the reservoir. local dealer has got me for $4000,00 as of today and has not fixed truck yet. Here is whats been done. New radiator cap , new radiator, new egr cooler . when I test drove it today still did same thing. only does this with my gooseneck hooked to it.

My temp gauge stays right in the middle like normal. When I got home tonight I opened the hood and didn't see nothing major. I took a picture .....
View 8 RepliesI got my 1999 f250 super duty v10 about a month ago. It had 200,700 some miles on it. It's now at 201,865. My issue is when I turn on my heater I smell coolant. It's kinda strong. No leaks that I can see. Not in the ground or in the cab or from what I can see of the heater core. It only smells when the heat is on, no smell on the cold setting. It sat for months before I bought it from a dealership. What it could be? Ok now it sounds like I have the ticking death sound. The one people have said happens when spark plugs are about to fail. So I guess new plugs are in order.
View 8 RepliesAlright, after finally fixing my 4X4 issues, now I have a coolant leak. It's on the passenger side, just above the exhaust downpipe. I can't find any leaks in the hoses, and as far as I can see it looks like it's coming out of the back of the head and running down the back of the block. The odd thing is there's no oil in it, and no coolant in my oil (which obviously is a good thing), but I don't want it to get to that point of it is getting worse. Heat works fine, and it isn't overheating, only losing maybe a gallon a month. At some point the ford gold stuff was flushed and it has the compatible green, that is the only thing I can tell is not stock. I don't want to tear it down if I don't absolutely have to.
