I have a 2003 Ford f250 5.4l brought it to the shop today and they said the pcm isn't communicating with the trans. The truck hesitates and stalls out at a stop. idle is OK a little studder. OD light blinks also. I put new ho2s in, new oss from ford, new plugs and coils (motorcraft).
View 3 RepliesJust got the transmission rebuilt in my truck and other then shifting hard sometimes it has been doing great, Hooked it up to the goose neck this evening and everything was fine then went to back it up and pull it forward and after a short distance the od light was flashing and when i ran a check on it it was p0720? The transmission has less then 1000 miles on it?!?!? 1999 Ford F-250 7.3 Automatic....
View 5 RepliesMy '01 7.3 is having some transmission problems, My O/D light is flashing. Trying to go after stopping at a light is a difficult, it drives very sluggish, like its not in overdrive. Scanned it and got three codes P0732, P0720, P0503. I replaced the ABS/VSS on the differential and the problem still exist.

I just bought the damn thing 3 weeks ago and its already not running. Where do I start to diagnose this damn thing..........
I have a 2001 F250 Super Duty with a 5.4L engine, regular cab. The truck has 149000 miles on it. I bought it about a month ago and had the transmission rebuilt, the spark plugs and coils replaced. Apparently the shady dealer I bought the truck from had power washed the engine and there was water in 3 of the spark plug wells on the drivers side. When I got the truck back from the transmission shop and backed it out of the parking lot, the OD off light started flashing and the SEL light came on. The code showed to be a P0720 to which the mechanic at the transmission shop replaced the speed sensor on the top of the tranny.
He said if it comes on again then the speed sensor on the rear differential could be the problem and that he would have to charge me to replace that sensor since it isn't covered under the warranty for the transmission.. I replaced the sensor myself on the rear differential yesterday and thought the problem was fixed. I drove the truck around for 30 minutes with no problems, until I put the truck in reverse, then the OD off light started flashing and the SEL light comes on giving the same P0720 code.
I have a 2002 F250 SD V10 4x4, that just started to randomly misfire [does not matter if the vehicle is in motion or in park]. I scanned the OBDII and found pending code P0720 (Output Speed Sensor). The CEL, O/D light, nor the ABS light illuminate. The speedometer functions normally.
This occurred Saturday after we got 12-18" of snow. I cleaned out the driveway, took a short drive (~ miles) & parked the truck (no symptoms). Later we went to 2 stores and then on the way home, the misfire started. The next day the misfire continues.
I have been searching & come up with the same posts that say the issue is not the OSS. It's usually a bad COP or bad wiring @ the OSS. The symptoms are not the same as when I had a COP go bad (only misfired under load between 1500 & 2500 rpm).
Personal issues: My truck does not fit in my garage, it's dark (and usually below 30 F) before I can get to look at it in the evening. Also, we are supposed to get another foot of snow tomorrow night.
I have a 2000 F350 7.3 4x4. It began giving intermittent tow/haul flashing light, when going up or down hill but would clear and drive next time truck was cycled off/on. No ABS lights and code reader generated P0720 for the output speed sensor, now I can get it to generate just driving slowly fwd and rev a few times. All of this has been in the last few days.
Truck will stall if I take it up a slight incline with the fault. I replaced the sensor on the top front of the 4r100 transmission and also replaced the sensor on the rear differential after giving up on looking for an output sensor on the transmission. I know the 2WD transmissions have an output sensor but is there one on the 4WD version? I have read several past threads discussing the P0720. I am hoping to confirm what sensor I need to be looking at and where it is located in this application.
So just got a new pcm installed since i fried the last one anyway. I had a new trans installed almost two weeks ago factory 4r100 now i have a p0720 code. Id take it back to that dealer.

No start, no lights dash was gauged was acting odd, and clicking under the dash from behind fuse box. did get it to start after a while, put my foot on the brake to go into drive, never made it ... truck died I do have remote start system thought it was that with the brake pedal issue. disconnected complete system. no change. Had it towed, home now no nothing, connect a battery and just clicking from under dash no start ?????? not a battery, won't even jump. View 7 RepliesWhenever I manually pull my gear selector into first gear it blows one of the 10a fuses (not sure which number). I lose all gauges and accelerator pedal. It's about the fourth fuse from the right on the bottom row.

View 5 RepliesI've had DTC P0171 & P0174 (lean in bank 1 and lean in bank 2) for a few weeks now (check engine light cued me on it). Autozone scanned it for me. It's on a 2003 F250 SD 4x4 5.4L.
My first step was to clean the MAFS. Light came back on in about 30-40 miles. I then replaced the MAFS. 30-40 miles and the light came back on.
My first thought was disconnecting the battery wasn't resetting the comp and thats why the light was comming back on.
I went and picked up an Actron cheapy OBD II Scanner today at lunch. Cleared the codes with the scanner and drove back to work.
Checked the codes when I got back (no light on but was curious) and it shows P0171 & P0174 pending.
I've checked and the dipstick is seated properly. The hoses on the air intake appear to seated properly as well. The top hose is a pretty loose fit but it was seated all the way down. The top hose was oily. Not sure if this is normal or not. Could the loose fitting oily hose be the culprit?
Also, what is the lower hose? It comes off the back of the air intake and goes to the driver side valve cover. I know it's not the PCV hose as that is on the passenger side valve cover....right?
I have noticed that in the past 1-2 months my trans probably has just get to 150*. Even on warm/hot days. Lately its just been 120-140 all day every day.
Can this cause any problems? It used to go up to 150-170 when warm, now it takes a hot day to get there.
I assume its fine, but just checking because I have, admittedly, neglected my trans fluid.
My tranny only goes to 3rd gear in 4x4 lo is that normal? 2014 6.2 xl f250 ....

View 10 Repliesfirst heard it a few weeks ago after the wind storm hit us here in nj, my girlfriends grandmother has her fifty foot pine tree rip out of the ground in her front yard. since it was only thirty feet from the street. I said hell ill drag this sucker to the road and cut it up there instead of dragging everything by hand. I figured 4wd high was good (don't know how heavy a pine tree this sized weighs) and I hooked the tow strap to the tree trunk and started to pull. first 4wd high was struggling but the real problem was this high pitch howling i was hearing, went about ten feet and the noise started to bother me, so I stopped and put the truck in 4low the noise stopped and the truck drug the tree with zero effort.
So I didn't think much more of it till today, got a little dirty trying to take the dog swimming and needed 4wd, as soon as i started to hit the skinny pedal and the motor made the tires turn that dam howl came back! rocked the truck a few times and ever time the motor lugged from trying to spin all three tire the same howl came back. switched to 4low to get out and the noise went away?????? Went back to 4high and sure enough the howl was back? regardless i got out but now i have this howl when using 4high and I am really working the truck hard in 4high. I am thinking torque converter is slipping making the sound and4low multiplies the power enough to make it go away from the ease it now has to spin the tires? I am gonna go tomorrow and climb a few hills and see if i can get the howl to start again in 4high...
Is there some sort of reset to turn off the Check Engine light? I had replaced the TPS sensor, and after a day the engine seems to have stopped the high idle and returned to normal, and now it still has the check engine with the same error code, but the problem seems to be resolved. View 10 RepliesI have Russell fittings and hose coming to hook up my new 6.0 cooler into my 5.4 powered truck. Have a question on the fittings on the bottom of the radiator for the cooler lines, first what is the 3/8" line called? Is it a double flare or what? And second question the female end that's into the plastic tank with the hex head does that unscrew or is it made into the tank? Trying to figure this out so I can overnight two adapters so I can get rid of the fugly hard line completely and use Russell braided line throughout my install
