My overdrive recently stopped working on my 2003 F250 and I also noticed that the light on the shifter is not lit indicating that OD is off. When I push the button on the end of the shifter the off light doesn't come on like it used to. I have noticed that sometimes after I shut the engine off and re start it will go into overdrive as normal but the button will not light to off or turn OD off when pushed.
I have been reading about chafed wires in the column where it comes out of the shifter but most guys are saying their off light is blinking and their trucks will not come out of overdrive when the button is pushed. My question is, should I check for the chafed wires in the steering column? The transmission shifts great , just not going into OD all of the time and its killing my fuel mileage turning 2900 rpm at 65 mph.

Last year I bought a used '99 F350 w/ ~$135K miles on it. I later noticed that when I pressed on the Overdrive button (automatic transmission) which is on the steering column gear change lever, nothing happened. The overdrive light did not come on and the gear did not change to overdrive.

2001 F450/6.8. The trim ring is missing on the shift lever switch and the switch doesn't seem to light up or take the truck out of overdrive when pressed. Truck shifts just fine in all other aspects. Fuses all appear to be good.

The switch for turning overdrive off that's located on the auto trans shifter stopped working. I've taken off the column cover to see if the wires have been severed from the tilt wheel, but nothing wrong there. I also checked the fuses, and all is well. Is it possible that the switch is bad at the end of the shifter, or somewhere farther down the column?

I have a 2001 F250, 5.4, 4X4. My ignition key stuck in the start position and when I pulled it back to the run position, everything seemed ok. As I started down the road, my speedometer stopped working and my overdrive light was flashing. Also my turn signals had stopped working and my A/C clutch didn't engage. Figured I burnt a fuse. I looked in both the under dash and power distribution box and all seemed well. I checked the fuse for the turn signals/flasher and it was fine. The flashers worked. Thought I might have fried something so I replaced the ignition lock and switch. Also my service engine light came on throwing a code for the vehicle speed sensor.
Looking for solutions on this forum and the internet, I learned that the turn signal switch could have gone bad and the VSS sensor is on the top of the rear dif and an easy fix. Well replaced the sensor but nothing changed. So I went back to the fuse box. Examined every fuse, big and small and I found a 10a with a small space. This was #24 under the dash. From the manual, "#24, 10A, A/C clutch, Blend Door Actuator, Trailer Tow Battery Charge Relay Coil, Four Wheel Anti-Lock Brake System (4WABS), Turn Signal." Replaced it and everything went back to normal. Turn signals work, A/C clutch works, no flashing overdrive light and speedometer works. All from a 10A fuse. If you have any of these symptoms examine all the fuses carefully. There's a 20A fuse for turn/hazard lamps and this other one buried that's only 10A.

How many gear shifts I should have on my 6.0 2004 super duty, Ive counted 5 but it seems not to be in overdrive, I'm running a little over 2000 rpms at 65 mph?

Just recently I started blowing PCM fuses (#19 in the fuse panel) After replacing lots of fuses, I finally figured out what was causing them to blow. I unhooked the overdrive switch, and no fuses blow. I can't see anywhere where the wire is chafed. Maybe it is chafed, and I can't see it or the switch is bad. Can the whole OD switch be replaced? If so, how??

I have a 2003 Ford F-350 6.0 it's srw lariat edition it has Manual hubs but electronic 4x4 switch I have changed all fuses and relays but still the light won't come on I've tried manually locking the hubs and still nothing....

Yesterday my transmission on my work truck decides to fail. 2003 Ford F350 7.3 diesel auto with 4wd, 85k
Started the truck to allow it to warm up. We have been getting 38 to 45 degree weather. Proceeded to drive the truck for about 8 miles and come up to a red light and stopped. When the light changes to green, I hit the accelerator and the motor just free revs. Look down to make sure that the truck is in drive. No go.
I did check the following, I have no leaks whats so ever. I checked the auto tranny oil level and that was fine. The check engine light did not come on. I checked to make sure that the 4wd system was not engaged nor sitting in neutral. No warning signs or noises, the tranny was pulling normal up until I stopped,' All gears are showing the same signs. When you move the gear selection to all the other gears, it seems as if it's disconnected.
Before when I changed from drive gear to reverse gear I would place my foot on the brake and change to a different gear. You would get a slight hesitation knowing the gear was selected. Now when I move the gear I do not get anything. This has me baffled. I really like this truck and has been pretty much been trouble free.

Having trouble tracking down the problem with my 4wd. Its a 2003 6.0. My esof switch is not working. The 4wd light comes on when I start the truck but nothing after that. I checked fuses and the relays under the hood everything is good.

Tonight i noticed overdrive flashing. No changes in shifting, truck shifted fine. I shut it off when i got home, started back up, light was not blinking, not sure if its like the check engine light and stays on or not. Where light blinks but shifts fine?

Overdrive light started flashing this week on my 2000 F450 7.3 mason dump. It only does it when it shifts into 4th gear once it hits that gear at about 35mph the overdrive light flashes until you restart the truck and it resets. Does the same thing all the time but DOESN'T flash if i'm driving around town on back roads and never get to that gear. Could this be something minor besides the transmission starting to go? It drives and shifts fine even when the light is flashing. I wait to get the error code read?

2006 F250 5.4l 4x4, long box, quad cab
Current issue: No overdrive / slipping into neutral / rough going into reverse
Codes: I don't have exact code but will get (p0755)... but shows shifting solenoid B malfunction ( this is the OD/Reverse one) check engine light on and tow light blinking
So whats been done: shifting solenoid B (OD/Reverse) was replaced (used part) inspected valve body and o rings... all good... worked for a week... then exact same issue. Transmission showed no signs of gear damage, oil looks good
Next: Replaced shifting solenoid B again (new one) and transmission wiring harness. Still no change, same codes. Seems to be having a communication issue between transmission and PCM? However continuity of wires and connectors seems ok.
One more piece of interesting info. Every-time before the truck slips I hear clicking coming from the fuse/relay panel under dash drivers side. No clicking no slipping... however never goes into OD at any time.

I recently purchased an 02 F250 v10 4x4 with 150k from a local auto auction. The transmission, for lack of a better term, will "grunt" when going into third and in and out of overdrive. It doesn't seem to slip at all and the fluid looks slightly discolored, but it does not smell burnt. No Torque Converter whine either. A friend of mine who has owned 10+ SDs for his business said I may need to replace the TCM. Not too sure about that, because other than the strange noise, the truck seems to shift normally.

Just bought the 03 listed in my signature line, and I just found out that the cruise control isn't working, so started trying to troubleshoot anything obvious.
When I switch it on, I get no cluster light that the manual shows to be to the right of the brake light. When I turn the key to run, it never lights up, so am guessing the bulb is bad.
Can't see how a bad bulb would keep the system from activating, so am thinking I have bigger issues. I pulled the fuse panel, but the manual does not have a listing for speed control. Which fuse it is combined into?
Also need the skinny on how to change the bulb. Can I reach my hand behind there? does the cluster have to come out?
Last question. What is the most likely culprit for non functioning cruise? A module? Perhaps the switch in the steering wheel?

I had a fuse blow today that runs the throttle and we could not move it. Replaced it and it blew again. I think this fuse is blowing because the wires on my overdrive are broken. Is there anyway to disconnect the overdrive until I can get replacement parts? As there not enough wire there to put them back together.

I'm having an issue on my 2002 F350 7.3. Today I hop in it and drive off I notice my speedometer stopped working. My overdrive light on the shifter started flashing. The trans seems like its not shifting correctly. It will eventually shift into overdrive but not always. Also now when I start off my fuel gauge raises and when I come to a stop it drops all the way to E and causes the ding and fuel light to light up. I figured this was all due to the VSS being bad. So I drove over to Autozone bought another VSS and a cheap tool set and changed it in the parking lot. No dice. I do have a scanner to pull the trans code but its late and I just got home.

I have a 2006 F250 with the 6.0 PowerStroke and automatic transmission. I just purchased this truck at an auction about a month ago.
Today I notice the transmission is not shifting into overdrive. No warning lights. If I press the tow/haul button in no change but the tow/haul light does come on. If I press it again (to turn it off) the tow/haul light goes out but still the transmission will not shift into overdrive.
This leaves me at about 2000 RPM at 68 MPH. I just had a Ford dealer perform Transmission service last week. (20,000 miles after the last recorded service.)
I am already not happy with the service I received at the dealer so I am really hesitant to take it back to them if it is something not related to the transmission service they performed.

My ex-has the electronic temp control. I've noticed there is very little difference from full hot to turned down less than 1/2 way.
(I'll convert to Fahrenheit here) Example - lowest temp setting is 60. If I am on heat, turning it from 60 to 66, gives me almost full hot. A slight difference is felt turning it to 68 and 70, but basically, 70 is full HOT. Continuing to turn it up to 88 makes zero difference.
I figured the blend door actuator might be toast, but it is in fact moving. I pulled the heater core cover off and here is what I noticed.
At 60, the blend door is fully open (correct, pulling cold air from outside) turning it to 66 the blend door almost fully closes. then the last little bit gets closed when going from 66-70. Anything hotter than 70 is of no use because mechanically it IS on full hot at 70. So basically I get full cold, or full hot, nothing in the middle. I pulled blend door actuator out, cleaned all the built-up crud around the shaft, took it apart and cleaned it, (no broken gears) no effect.

'03 F250 V10 SuperDuty.
Ok...I hadn't driven my SD for over a week...maybe like 7 days. Get in...and turn the key to the 'On' position. Wait for the computer to cycle on (I just like to hear it)...and then fire up the V10. It's a HOT day...so I try and open the electric windows, but nothing happens. Then...I notice the radio is not on either. What the heck??? Ok...about 30sec or 1min passes and the windows are now working and the stereo is on. Some kind of weird time delay...???
So...here is the catch of it all. I drive to the local hardware store and all seems fine. Do my business in the store...and jump back into my SD. Fire it up...and everything is working. The windows or radio did not have that "time delay". Now...I am really confused.

I am having some issues with my 2003 f250 6.0l 4x4. I cannot get the 4x4 to engage. There are no lights on the dash and no power to the switch other than the light. It doesn't matter if I have the hubs in lock or auto. It just seems like i have no power to the system. I have check all the fuses and they all check fine. I also check the transfer case motor and it seemed fine. I must be missing something. This truck is worthless without 4x4.
