I'm looking to install an aftermarket exhaust system (cat-back system) on my '01 F-250/6.8L/V10. I'm looking for recommendations....Ideally, I'd love to find a system where I don't have to remove the spare tire, and still have a dual exhaust where the tailpipes exit on the side (aft of the rear tires).

I am going down to napa tomorrow, looking for a detailed link, or instructions of how to install these things? i have searched but just keep coming up with people raving about how great warn hubs are!
Do I need any special tools, do I need to grease the new ones before installing?
Some time ago, stalling situation I had with my V-10 engine in my motorhome.
I received several good suggestions but none of them seemed to work. I took the motorhome to the Ford Dealer and they could not come up with an answer.
As a last resort, I decided to change out the Computer and asked the dealer to order one for me. Ford no longer makes this computer. So, they had to order a re-built. While waiting for the re-built, it occurred to me that I have a Banks exhaust system in the motorhome and I called Banks to see if there was something I should do regarding their system. They simply told me to remove their chip and replace it in the new Computer. Then bring it into their offices to have it flash programed. I relayed this information to the Ford mechanic and he removed the chip. The motorhome ran fine on the original computer with no stalling what-so-ever.
Unfortunately, Ford had already ordered a re-built computer so I was committed to having it installed. I decided to keep the original as a back up. I made an appointment with Banks to have the new computer flash programed to their chip. While I was there, the Banks mechanic told me that it is a common for the chip connections to become dirty and cause stalling. He cleaned the connections and put it back in the motorhome.
I wish, Banks had told me this is a common problem when I first called them. The chip is on the outside top of the computer and is easily removed and installed. Takes about five minutes to clean the connections and re-install.

I've watched multiple YouTube videos and it seems a lot of people use the test port on the driver side above the linkage. I found out the hard way that it is a very poor choice of location. A lot of people say that the best way is to drop the pan drill a hole and weld in the bung? I was wondering would it be possible to put it on the "out" line on the transmission oil headed to the cooler? 01 f-350 7.3
I own a 2001 F250, I bought a skid steer that weights 7000lbs and got a trailer that is 14,000lbs.
The truck was running fine, today was the first day I used it and I noticed by the end of the day I have oil dripping from my exhaust.
The dealership told me that the f250 is able to town that much weight, what caused it, as well as is it safe to continue to tow with it?
2001 F250 5.4L - I recently had my muffler changed and the pipe flange on the tailpipe up by the exhaust manifold welded back on. I haven't driven my truck much this past summer so when I took it in to get the muffler fixed the front caliper got temporarily stuck like it tends to do. It eventually freed up but in the meantime I noticed a hot oil-like smell coming from my truck from time to time. I chalked it up to either the new muffler or maybe it just smelled hot and it was instead the front brake caliper still being stuck. One day I'm driving down the interstate and I start uphill. I noticed smoke behind me and pulled over. The brake was not overheating so I got underneath the truck.
The smoke was rolling off of the exhaust pipe all the way down it all the way up near the manifold but mostly around the muffler. The smoke quickly went away while I was under the truck. I noticed it doing this only while the engine is under a load like going uphill. Just driving around town nothing is noticeable. When it does smoke I lose power. Once I slow down for awhile and then gradually speed back up things seem okay. I checked the oil.
Normally I don't lose a drop but this time I was a quart low but the oil on the stick was clean. It's been awhile since I had my oil changed but very little mileage on this change (my truck has sat awhile). My truck doesn't leave a drop of oil under it when it sits. From what I read you can remove the radiator cap and start the truck to see if it's a blown head gasket. At least that one of the things I can check easily without actually taking the plugs out even though the oil looks clean. The radiator has not lost any fluid. The transmission fluid is also good. It's been doing this for about 3 weeks.
I still drive it to and from work (about 15 miles round trip) everyday but I take it easy on the acceleration and stay on city streets. I looked into the EGR system online for my truck and instead found an EVAP purge solenoid/valve in its place on the passenger side. I don't have any service lights on the dash. I went to Autozone and had them scan it but nothing came up. I read somewhere that either the purge solenoid assembly or EGR (I can't remember) can burn up the board if it goes bad resulting in no code showing up.
I recently changed a vacuum valve out that went bad that controlled the vacuum chamber used to operate the hubs on the 4WD. The 4WD is now operational again. Assuming the head gasket is not blown, what to check for next?

A month ago I backed into a steel pole in a parking garage and trashed my bumper, making me realize I need a backup camera I ordered a cheap ebay camera and 30 feet of extra power and video cable for the install.
Down the road I'll order something better but for now I'm working with a cheapo 15 dollar camera I know where I'm mounting the camera and where/how I'm running the cables, I'm just not sure how to get my head unit to switch automatically when I engage the truck in reverse. I have a pioneer double din touch screen radio as seen here on crutch field.

can i install a gauge cluster from a junk yard truck without reprogramming it? im not concerned with the odometer reading just need gauges. truck is a 2002 f250 sd 2wd auto gas.
View 5 RepliesFirst tech post for my new truck. I just bought a hold-over but new 2015 F250 XL Supercab 2wd and love the simplicity of no unwanted options. That said, there are two features I am adding. The first is perfectly straightforward, cruise control (swap button cluster and have the function turned on by the dealer). The second is a tiny bit more involved, back-up camera, in mirror display with bluetooth hands-free (I like the simple AM/FM radio because I can work it all with gloves on).
So I basically need three things from the truck and my research has been inconclusive on a couple of things because most of the threads are for 2014 or earlier. I think I can pull switched 12V and ground (pin 1 and 4) plus reverse lights (center, or pin 7) all from the the trailer wiring harness. It appears these are not affected by the canbus load restrictions of other places to tap reverse signal (remember, XL so likely nothing in the overhead console for the auto-dimming rear view mirror). Are there any challenges with this when I do hook up my enclosed trailer or when it is not hooked up regarding the trailer brake controller/anti-sway?
I already found a good youtube video for how to route the wires so I think this is my primary challenge at this point.
I just got a 15 f250 with the console and nav system but it didn't come with the upfitter switches.
I picked these up and got a copy of the .pdf for the installation, but I'm finding it hard to follow for where the relay and box should install. I ran the wire up to the upfitter switch location and can even find a nice spot to connect the grounding wire.
I can't for the life of me figure out where the box installs and where the wiring harness taps into the main harness. Need a photo of where your box is installed and where it taps into the main harness?
Earlier this week I pulled out my right axle shaft and found the outer portion of the Spicer two piece seal attached to the axle, the part number on the seal is 52148. The axle tube is dry, no signs of the seal leaking. I need to remove that seal from the shaft to install a new outer dust seal. Can that seal be removed with a 3 jaw pulled then get reinstalled, or can I get a new 53148 and install that portion with out removing the carrier. I am not set up where I sit right now to pull both axles.

Said his wife was driving and it broke the u joint or something, and he has gotten it repaired and wondered if I could put it back on. Has been sitting for a bit from what he said.
Just need to know, how I should clean up and or grease? the end with the boot on it. before I put it together. The boot looks to be zap strapped, is that standard?
I've had the Ford Remote Access installed on my pickup for over a year now and it's worked great up until about a week ago when I changed cell phone providers from AT&T to Verizon. Now when trying to use the app I get the error code 00011000. I up-dated the app to reflect the new carrier but it still doesn't work. And yes, my subscription to the service is current. What I need to do to get this working again, with winter just around the corner I'd sure like to have this functional again. I figured I'd give the forum a shot before I resort going to the dealer.

Have found step and handle available (OEM) but need to know how hard/easy to install it on our current tailgate. I gather from another post the handle part is easy but what about the step itself?
