I replaced the power steering pump on my 2000 f250 Power stroke. I bled the lines, and when the wheels are on the ground, I have no steering. When I raise the wheels off the ground, I have no problems turning stop to stop.

I screwed up on installing my new power steering pump and used power steering fluid (new to ford) and it is moaning so I need to flush and get mercon ATF put back in the lines. The write up I found was for the diesel hydroboost and I do not have that setup.
View 3 RepliesI just replaced my fuel pump to avoid another tow truck ride and now my fuel gauge is off. I filled up the truck today and the fuel gauge is only showing half a tank. I turned the truck on and off several times to try to reset it, but that didn't work.
Truck is a 2003 with the 5.4.
I have a 2001 F250 SD V10 and when at a dead stop and with the brakes applied, steering becomes very stiff and almost impossible to turn the wheels. If I let off of the brakes and move a little the steering is just fine. I hate like hell to spend the money on a new power steering pump if it isn't going to fix the problem. Simply put, deap stop, brakes on, wheels don't want to steer. How do I fix it?
View 10 RepliesI have a 2000 f250 with auto/manual locking hubs and today the 4x4 quit working. The light comes on the dash and the drive shaft and u joints turn but the front wheels don't turn even when its locked in. I assume its the hubs? And when I am going down the highway about 75 the front starts making a hellacious noise but stops if I slow down is this connected?

View 1 RepliesI have an 03 F-250 4 wheel drive with the 6.0. For the last 3 months or so I have been having some issues with the steering system and I am not quite sure what it could be or what too look for. I have already replaced the power steering pump due to the shaft seal leak on my old one. After that I noticed that the truck would never really center the steering up on its own like it used to and that it pulled in either direction depending on which way you steered it. I then decided that I would replace the steering box on the truck. I replaced it with a Napa one. Right after that I had it on the alignment rack and the guy said it was not even out of alignment. As I continued to drive the truck it continued to pull in either direction whenever you took a hard turn in either direction. Then one night coming home from work, I was pushing it a little hard, the truck pulled itself across the center line. The steering wheel and all turned to the left. It did this 5 or so times in a row. I am also noticing some issues with my lock outs but don't know if it is tied to the same issue with the steering.
View 3 RepliesI bought a 2006 F250 Super Duty about 3 months ago, and it's been doing fine. I backed it into the shed yesterday after work, and noticed a little while later, a small puddle of fluid under the front. I crawled under and looked up...the entire steering pump is wet and dripping. I thought at first it was engine oil coming down from above, but it seems to be steering fluid (or whatever is in the steering reservoir). Clear looking fluid/oil.
I've read about high-pressure hose leaks...exactly where is that hose? Is it the one that is nearly against the pulley on the bottom? Where the fluid could be coming from?
I have put a new steering pump on my 2002 f250 and all new hydraulic hoses. I plan to install a steering pump filter on the system to protect it from anything that is not steering pump fluid.
There are two intake ports to the steering pump. One is near the bottom of the pump and takes fluid from the steering pump cooler after it has left the steering gear. The other intake port is near the top of the pump and takes fluid from the booster.
My question is - which hose would be better to put a steering pump filter on? Is there anything wrong with putting a filter on both? I imagine the first intake hose is constantly circulating fluid and the other only circulates it when the steering wheel is used.
2016 F250 with less than a 1K miles and the power steering all but stopped working at low RPMs. Once it got going it would start working again.

View 13 RepliesI'm trying to figure out how much of my front end I need to rebuild. 130,000 mi on the truck. About 1/2 of those miles are off road. 2008 F350 FX4. Stock. Original front wheel bearing unit and hubs. I was under the truck today and before I put it on jacks I decided to see how much play was in the front end components.
I noticed when checking out the passenger side front axle at the u-joint that I was able to spin the whole u-joint and bearing with the wheels still on the ground. I wasn't able to do the same for the driver's side. Both hubs were set to auto although I know that the ESOF doesn't work. Is this normal? Am I supposed to be able to spin the axle with the wheels on the ground?
I have 2000 ford f350 7.3 diesel. (Approx 95,000 mi). Tried to tow heavy wood chipper out of soft backyard, truck on angle because of grade. Put in low and second for better traction. After somewhat high engine rpm tires started to move me ahead until spinning occurred upon which I would immediately stop and try again (slowly). Next thing I know trans fluid on ground and truck steaming. Let cool down, refilled trans oil to proper level, unhooked heavy load. Fluid NO longer leaking, drive home fine (towing nothing). What are my next steps? Very concerned I've done grave damage!?
View 9 RepliesAll of a sudden steering is WAY to easy i can flip it one way or the other with my finger. Front end is tight no lose tierods etc and no play in steering box when you turn it the steering turns immediately.
Thinking power steering is going bad maybe over pressure? Repair will be a pain has central hydraulics lines all in way. 2000 F450 7.3 ....
I installed an aluminum flatbed on m 2004 F250 5.4 and when I was wiring the lights, I accidentally shorted the marker/running lights to ground. The fuse is not blown (17), the dash lights come on. I have checked for power to the other lamps and there is nothing. I am looking for any information that would lead where to look for the cause.
View 10 RepliesMy 2000 F250 4 x 4 just started being almost impossible to steer to right when stopped. To the left it is ok. I was on a trip and when I got where I was going noticed the steering very hard. I checked the fluid level and it was almost empty. I filled the reservoir and let it sit 4 days. I am back on the road now and it is still doing it. Stopped to left is easy to right almost impossible.
My brakes are good. I noticed a couple times when I had to slam on the brakes on the tirp the rear tires chirped. I don't tow anything with it, just a family vehicle with 408000 miles. The power steering pump was replaced a few years ago. Pump, gearbox, etc? I need to get this fixed as I have another trip coming up in a few days.
My 2000 f250 7.3 has pretty sloppy steering and noise in the front end when going over bumps. I have replace the drop links, swap bar bushings, both wheel hubs including new seals and the drag link. The rest of the front end seems to be in good shape. I put it up on jack stands and there is some movement in the front end but it seems to all be in the steering box.
Steering box appears to be original with 220k miles. I went to tighten it and it appears the PO did it at least once already. Is it safe to try tightening it again? Does tightening it increase the risk of failure? I'd like to try tightening it first but not at the risk of losing steering at 65mph with my kids in the truck.
I'm completely aware a lifted truck will not ride factory and most likely ride harder. But this is ridiculous.
So I bought a 8" super lift for my F250 7.3 2000, although the price is very cheap at that shipped to my door debating if I have messed up either with the brand or somewhere because I feel like I went from a casual ride in my lovely 7.3 to feeling like a horse carriage of a few century's ago.
Lift is setup with lift leaf springs in the front, one add a leaf in the rear with a block, and 4 new shocks and all the other hardware included to do the lift.
I'm wondering if it's possible the springs are installed wrong, or the shocks are just that bad or if there a weird issue I've over looked.
Tire pressure is set to 35-40 psi all around on toyo open country mts, (which I was running before the lift so that hasn't changed) but I mean this is so stiff that when I hit a bump my steering wheel jerks and I feel like my suspension has absolutely no flex in it. Debating on returning to stock or not at this point...
I am trying to get an extra set of wheels for my truck before we move back to Alaska to mount my studs on next winter. I have found a few used sets but then realized I have the tire pressure sensors on my truck. If I pick up a set, do I have to get ones with the sensors? Can sensors be added to the tire shop? I just really have no intel on this subject!
View 8 RepliesI have the 20 inch chrome wheels on my 2016 Lariat. After this winter there is some buildup if some sort in the wheels that will not come off when I hand wash the truck. From what I understand, these are some sort of plastic covering and not true chrome. So my question is can use a really abrasive material or steel wool to remove heavy grime. I have a feeling it is from salt in the roads. I don't want to ruin my wheels.
View 3 RepliesThis is my dads f250 build date of 9/03. I know these wheels are not the factory xl wheels. I also think they changed something with the wheel back spacing somewhere around this time. He is running 285/70/17 bfgs and is rubbing the leaf springs pretty good. He ran this same size on his previous 02 model with no rubbing. Can he get away with 1/4 spacers? What years these wheels are from? And the backspacing differences, if any. His 02 had the chrome large bullet hole style wheels.
