I am having a real hard problem trying to find the ideal place to mount my backup camera on my 2004 Ford Ranger... Looking for some pics of your mounting location.. Closest to the center of the bumper would be best if possible...
View 13 RepliesMy new head unit supports a backup camera, and wiring it in is no challenge.
What IS challenging me is where to mount the bugger, and where to pass the wire through to the trunk front the outside.
I dropped the trunk lid liner and did not see any grommets or pass-through spots for the cables. Do I need to drill a hole and silicone it, or is there something I am missing? If I have to drill, I guess I can do it under the chrome trim piece that holds the trunk lock keyway.
I just bought a new truck. Its got some...well hacking done to it.
Previous owner did some "stuff" to the o2 sensor wiring.
Also installed a cat back new exhaust.
Should there be another O2 sensor after the final cat?
I replaced the front shock absorbers on my Ranger today and I have a question about torquing the upper mounting nut. The problem I have is that the threaded rod that is attached to the top of the shock turns when I put a socket on there and try to torque it to the proper spec. You can put a crescent wrench on the top of that threaded rod(it has flat spots) and tighten the nut some with a wrench, but the crescent wrench wants to slip and round off the top of that threaded rod. So my question is, how do you torque that upper nut without the shock spinning below?
It's a '98 2.5 ltr., 2 wheel drive with coil springs.
I lost my backup lights. The owners manual does not list a power source (fuse) for the 4.0. I do not see a bad fuse, however I suspect that the backup lights are fused somehow somewhere on a 4.0. I do not have a manual for the 2003 Ranger.

View 3 RepliesCurrently I have a license plate camera wired always on connected to a 7inch lilliput monitor infront of my center console on that hump in the floor. The monitor is connected to a 12v plug on the dash. In this configuration, I have to reach down and turn the monitor on whenever I want to reverse and im hoping I can make it turn on whenever I go into reverse. Right now, if I turn it on then turn the truck off, the monitor stays on with a bright blue no signal screen which forces me to turn the monitor on, then off, every time I reverse if I want to use it.
Any way to make the monitor turn on/off when I put my Ex in reverse?
Went to back out of the driveway yesterday and no picture on my nav screen. It switched to the camera screen but it is just black. I unplugged the connection at the rear of the truck before the tailgate and plugged it back in. Everything seemed fine with the connection. I also have a lock pick installed but if I remember correctly the camera still plugs directly into the nav unit.

View 14 RepliesMy reverse camera goes over the mirror, its a mirror when not in use and a camera when in reverse. The way this one is set up, the camera taps switched 12 volts at the rear of the car (tapped trailer connector for these) and the video signal runs forward (ran under headliner to center console to mirror). The monitor needs 12 volts, ground, and + 12 volts when I shift into reverse. I just read a half dozen threads where people suggested tapping into a black wire with pink stripe in the driver's kick panel. Just checked, no such wire on mine. I do not want to run a wire back from the taillight, this seems backwards since the power goes from the front of the truck to the reverse light in the taillight I just need to find the right wire. I checked the reverse relay and the fuse in the fusebox and they are both 12 volts when the truck is on, so they must be prior to the reverse switch.

1. Backup camera sporadically does not come on in rear view mirror. Has already been replaced by Ford dealership.
2. Backup camera settings Visual Park Aid and Guidelines sporadically are set to 'off'
3. While truck is running, start seeing warnings/hearing chimes. Emergency Brake (which isn't set), Engine Overheating, Check 4X4, etc.
4. Truck will NOT start. Won't even attempt to turn over. When this happens, I have a radio but the LED screen is usually blank.
These sporadic issues are starting to seem to be related to the use of the emergency brake. Use of the emergency brake does not always immediately cause issues. Now that I feel like there is some kind of connection, I have been setting the e-brake when I park it (even if not needed) trying to force things to happen because Ford says if they can't make it happen they don't know where to look/what to fix. I can't always make things happen by using the e brake...but am noticing things happen more often when I DO use it and when things happen (like backup camera won't work) setting the brake will make it come on and then I can release it and back up. If it won't crank while the brake is set, releasing it will cause it to crank. The other morning when I had all the warnings/chimes going off setting the e-brake made everything go back to 'normal'.
Yesterday when I came back from lunch I parked and set the e brake (on level ground). Got in it to leave work, left e-brake set, stepped on regular brake and tried to crank....nothing but radio. Called dealership. They had me try putting the key in, pressing the regular brake, and try to move the shifter from Park to N. Shifter wouldn't move. Then asked to turn key to just get it 'active' and try again. Shifter wouldn't move. Asked me to turn the key to crank and try again. Same thing - shifter wouldn't move. Truck finally cranked after I released e brake. Came home, parked and set e brake and turned it off. It re-started right up with e brake still set.
Was wondering if there is a way to adjust the view angle of the back-up camera? Mine appears to be a little off center.
View 6 RepliesI would like to add a second backup camera to my 2016 F-350 Super Duty to assist when hooking up to my fifth wheel. It is a Crew Cab with the Factory Tonneau Cover so my view of the hitch is blocked. I would like to add the third brake light high mount camera and be able to toggle between my OEM/Tailgate Camera and the High Mount. I have found a couple that claim they will work but both require tapping into the main connector on the back of the display, but not quite sure how to open it up. Accessing the connector is not a problem, just getting it apart without breaking it is the question. The "Lockpick" system has not been tested/certified for the 2016 model.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2013 F350 Lariat. Recently, the backup camera has stopped working about 1/3rd of the time. When it doesn't work, a yellow triangle icon appears on the screen with " Camera unavailable. See dealer." The dealer has checked it, twice, and is unable to locate the problem.

I have read that many people have added backup cameras to their SEs or XLEs with navigation systems but I wasn't sure if it was possible on a basic LE with no nav. If it is possible to add a backup camera to an LE, which brands will work and where can you typically get them installed?
View 2 RepliesI just bought a 2 din DVD HU and will install a backup camera with it for my 2005 Camry LE.
A few questions:
1) what's the best way to run video cable from HU to trunk? Through side panel then under door molding or through center storage console then under the carpet?
2) what method do you recommend to tap into backup light for +12V to power the camera? Is there a breakout wire harness that I can buy, or splice the wire (then solder them together) or use a wire tap connector (never used these before, are they reliable and do they hold together a couple years)?
