Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1999 - Front End Shimmy / Skip With Bumps

May 27, 2013

When I hit any type of a bump I can feel instability in my front end. It's like it will shimmy and skip a bit. It only lasts for a split second after the bump. The higher the speed, the worse it is. It's particularly noticeable when I am cornering. If I hit a bump while cornering to the right, the vehicle feels like it shimmys and skips to the left - as I said it only lasts for a split second. It's kind of scary. It's been doing this for a while. I knew I had a bad lower ball joint on the passenger side as it was rattling and squeaking. I went ahead and replaced both upper and lower ball joints as well as the front shocks. The squeaking/rattling is now gone. I had hoped this would also fix my shimmy/skipping problem; however, it didn't work at all. I also notice no improvement in the ride from the new shocks. The shocks are Monroe Gas-Matic LT. These may not be the best money can buy, but I should notice a slight improvement.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: Loose Shock On Passenger Side And Rattles When Going Over Bumps

Well, I had a friend put together my front brake rotor, now no more pulsating when coming to a stop, very smooth stop, new front brakes, had it aligned as well.. Also replaced the front shocks, however the passenger side came loose and rattles when going over bumps, speed bumps. I popped the hood, bounced my truck and could see it moving from left to right when bouncing front end of truck.

Question is, can i tighten it up myself, I dont have a jack, limited tools, I know, I know but i dont at the moment. My friend that worked on my truck lives a good drive and i hate to waste gas just for tightening something that should have been done but i have too, I will..

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: Replaced Front Brakes Now ABS Goes On A Lot

I had to replace the tie rods in my mazda b2300 and the mechanic also replaced the brake pads.

Now when I drive, I can hear the pump for the brake fluid going on and off when I'm not even using the brakes and the ABS goes on a lot too.

He tried resetting the computer by unplugging the battery for a bit but it's still doing it.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1986 - How To Disable Front Differential

My front diff is busted, and I mean bad.. I can barely even run the truck 5mph, and it's very loud. The diff casing is even busted. I want to just disable it to drive in 2wd. What's the easiest way to do it? It won't disable using the push button control.

Can I just remove all the locking stuff in the front wheels, so there's nothing for the axles to grab on, and manually turn the solenoid at the transfer case to shut off the front wheel axle?

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2001 - Oil Pan Gasket Sticking Out In The Front

My son and I were doing a transmission flush and while we had it on the lift, I noticed the oil pan gasket was sticking out in the front quite a ways. I assume its time for a new one. Is there anything I need to know having never dropped the pan on this truck? Is this a common issue?

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2006 - Vibration Above 55+ From Passenger Front?

In my 2006 Ranger XLT, 4.0L V6, 2WD Manual; I am getting vibration from what appears to be the passenger front. I have so far replaced the front wheel bearings (both sides), replaced front shocks and checked rear shocks, rotated tires (to see if it changed) and had front tires balanced. I've also had a friend follow me on the freeway and check the wheel to see if is bouncing, wheel appears to be glued to the road. I have done all the front suspension checks I can and find no indications it is the lower ball joints or tie-rod ends.

This vibration is very in consistant, in different lanes it is better/worse. At times I feel it more in the steering wheel, others my seat and at times the gear shift. I don't believe it to be the engine mount(s) cause when it is vibrating I can shift into netural and the vibration does not change, I have also performed the 5K rev (FORD maitn. manual) and the engine is smooth (along with my expierence with bad mounts in my '94).

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: Front Brake Caliper Seems To Be Sticking?

Yesterday, I noticed that my right front brake caliper seemed to be sticking. This morning I jacked up the front end, and could barely turn the right front wheel when it was off the ground. So, I have concluded that that caliper is sticking. So, here is the question(s): what is the best way to repair this (new caliper, rebuilt caliper, or rebuild it myself), do I need to do both sides the same or can I just do the one that is acting up, and should I expect to pay. I have some mechanical ability, but that Haynes manual doesn't make too much sense to me. Getting it professionally repaired is extremely inconvenient, I need to be back at school (300 miles away) Tuesday evening, and probably couldn't get it in to get it done before then.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: Metal Tinging Sound From Front End

I'm getting a high toned metal tinging sound (ting ting ting ting) from the front wheel that gets faster as I increase speed.

Shop said it's tire noise, but it's a distinctive metal sound like something rotating is hitting a thin piece of metal. It's quite loud, but I eventually don't hear it over 35mph because the vehicle moving is louder.

Eventually, around 35mph it's almost a constant tinging noise because I'm going fast.

2007 Level II, 5-speed.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1993 - Front Sway Bar End Links?

I'm new to the whole Ranger truck thing since buying a 1993 Ranger 4x4 for my 14 y/o son. It has a 4 inch suspension lift and a 3 inch body lift running 33x10.5x15 tires. The front sway bar is not hooked up. I know that i will need drop brackets for the sway bar but my question is about the end links needed for this truck. There are 2 tabs with provisions for a horizontal bolt on each side of the twin I-beam where the end link would attach and the sway bar has a single horizontal hole on each end. Searching for replacement links at various auto parts websites only seems to yield the standard end links that consist of a straight bolt with a nut on each end and the rubber insulators. That clearly is not the correct end link for my application. Not sure if the front suspension is the factory installed unit or if it was swapped some time in the part.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1992 - Front Brakes Pulling To Right

All I did was take wheel off to tap a stud and I saw the inboard pad shim came off. So I removed the shim and reinstalled everything and the wheel is severely pulling to the right. Yesterday I took the caliper off but did not take off hose, cleaned slide pins and lubricated with anti seize. Still pulling to right bad. Don't hear any squealing or grinding. But pass side wheel is definitely hotter than drivers side. One mechanic said he thinks it would be a bad hose before replacing caliper. What could it be?

It could be a gasket or a oil seal I don't know. Is this oil leak something common with the 2.3 engine?

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2001 - Strange Grinding In Front Wheels

I have an 01 Ranger 4x4 with 113,000 and have had it for around 2 years. After I bought it I noticed a grinding sound that appeared to come from the front wheels during braking. On my old 97 Ranger I noticed the same sound and had to replace both rotors because the pads had worn to the rivets! So I pulled the front wheels and found I had about 1/2 inch of pad left and the rotors were shiny on both sides. I recently checked them again and a little less pad but the rotors are still shiny. The pads haven't worn far enough to get to the squealer bars yet.

The sound is like the metal on metal sound some have described during all phases of driving but this only occurs intermittently while braking. It doesn't matter if its light braking or heavy it sounds the same when it does it. I do think I may have a warped rotor on at least one side as the truck shakes some when I apply the brakes, especially at higher speed. I have not checked my front bearings visually but there doesn't appear to be much play if any doing a wheel shake test. What it could be and could it be related to a warped rotor?
