Horn just stopped working on my 06 mountaineer. 20 amp fuse is good. All other controls on steering wheel work fine (sound system, cruise control, no airbag problem). Also, when I press panic button on remote FOB the exterior lights flash until i press it again but no horn. Any thoughts?
View 5 RepliesMy dad has a 2000 Mountaineer (Millennium edition) and the Compass/Thermometer display has not worked in months. I looked through the Manual and looked through the fuse block and they do not specify which number on the fuse block deals with this. Its probably tied in with something else but its not clearly noted in the manual.

View 5 RepliesI have a 98 Mountaineer V8 AWD... The other day the power door lock on the drivers door quit working, even with the remote it wont lock the doors. If I press the other door lock buttons, the one in the rear and the other on the passenger side door, all the doors will lock. I have tried to chase down the wire ( pink with Yellow stripe, or green stripe, I forget which one it is now ) I don't have a wiring diagram to know where the wire goes.
I have even swapped the door lock buttons from side to side and it still didn't change anything... Is there something that is a common problem with these that I need to know about??? Looking for a wiring diagram of the doors?? There is no power going to the drivers door lock, but there is to passenger door. I am thinking of running a jumper wire from door to door and see if this will fix it...
The driver side door lock switch on our 1998 Mercury Mountaineer was no longer working. I replaced the switch with a remanufactured unit and it still doesn't work. The rest of the switches and keyless entry work as intended. Is there another likely reason besides a bad switch that would cause this? Which pins on the back of the switch should have power on them? Also, how do you test the switch?

View 2 RepliesI have a 2006 mercury mountaineer awd v8 which up until a few weeks ago would be able to get 22 mpg highway. I have noticed that recently it has been around 17 mpg at the same speed. Could all of this be blamed on winter gas blend, or is there more to my problem?
View 6 RepliesMy wife has an 06 Mountaineer with a V8 and we have been having a problem with hesitation when the engine is placed under a load. The problem occurs most often when the transmission is in overdrive and the engine goes under a load such as driving up an incline at cruising speed. The engine begins to shudder much like a misfire but disappears when the trans kicks down a gear. The check engine light will flash momentarily but it never sets a hard code that I can read.
I have AutoEnginuity scan tool but there are never any codes. I've driven the vehicle with the scanner hooked up and there is never a misfire noted. The car has 96000 miles with, presumably, the original plugs. I'm aware of the potential problems with attempting to change these plugs. Where to look? I don't want to "hang parts" such as mass air flow or throttle position sensor. I've been hoping that the problem would progress to the point that a hard code would be set but none has yet.
My 2006 Mountaineer 4.6 is ticking at start up, and it gets quieter after about 30 seconds. Does this sounds like the cam phaser?

View 6 Replies replacement of a rear tone ring on 06 mercury mountaineer V/6 . I have a tooth knocked off of my left rear . Just wanted to know if there was any special procedure or tricks to it like heating up the old ring or something to remove it or just soak it with P.B Blaster or something similar and tapping it like a bearing race ?
Never did this or have never seen it being done before and rather ask the questions 1st Had the dealer to quote me 500.00 for a new axle and labor said they are impossible to get off or on they most times split ? Old gear head pre-computer car days
Having problem on my wife's 06 Mountaineer, 4.0. Couple months back the loose gas cap light came on out of the blue. I bought a stant gas cap and cleared the code, no problems. Well about 2-3 weeks ago it threw code 0450.
One of the things I saw it could be was the fuel cap. So I ordered a new Motorcraft fuel cap this time and cleared the code. Ran it about a week and the light came back on. No change is performance, mileage, and no fuel smell. So, I don't know what the problem is.
OBD II Code P0450 : It says that a common misdiagnosis is the fuel cap. Says that it is most likely a defective sensor or something. Need to change the fuel tank pressure sensor?
My wife drives a 06 Mountaineer last spring a left front brake caliper piston seized up and there was damage to the rotor I replaced both rotors and that left front caliper then I changed out the rear pads as well . Then ever so often before that the ABS light on the dash would pop on hit reset it wold go off now it just stays on.
Then a few weeks ago she said the little yellow lines that indicate you are in all wheel drive started to flicker on .. Have not a clue as to why that is on now . But I would told most code readers would not read these sort of problems that I needed to get it to a dealer..
I have a 2002 f150 super crew, 5.4l and 4wd. The low tone horn is not working and I am having trouble locating it. Where do you suppose Ford has hid it?
View 2 RepliesMy horn isn't working. The under-dash fuse is OK and was going to check the horn relay, but can't figure out which one it is despite numerous FTE and Google searches. I pulled the cover on 2 power distribution boxes under the hood, driver's side. One box has 2 relays. The other has 4. Which one controls the horn?
Then...how do I test it to see if it's good/bad?
I have a 2003 F150. My horn and cruise both stopped working. All fuses are OK. Cruise controls are on steering wheel (as is horn). Why both would stop working???
View 2 RepliesMany of you said it was the "ClockSpring" that needed to be replaced. But I already did that. A brand new clockspring on it. The horn only blows when the engine is off and when the engine is on the horn and Curse Control don't work. I have a 2001 Excursion. So What could the problem be? It works with the keyless remote. But just when you driving down the street and some bone head cut you off you can't just it.
View 5 RepliesI have an '02 F150 Lariat CC 5.4L. The truck is new to me and neither the cruise control nor the horn works. i have checked all (known) fuses and relays. I have tried the cc diagnostic, and the dash light DOES NOT illuminate. Should I assume that the dash light is not burned out? Is there a way to test the clock spring connections for continuity? and how do I access the connection
i checked the cc brake pressure switch and have continuity there.
I have an 89 f250 7.3. horn has not been working for the longest time the relay clicks but still nothing. It doesn't matter weather the key is in the on or off position. I know it might be a grounding problem because the cruise control does not work any more (even though recently it was working just fine). I didn't see any bad fuses.

View 3 RepliesI have a 2001 F-250 SD XLT with the ABS light on, cruise control doesnt work and the horn only works with the key out. The codes for the ABS is no signal input from the left and right front wheel sensors. No problem there. Also my speedo stops or jumps when I press the horn button while driving down the road. When I quit pressing the horn button the speedo works fine. So after looking over the posts on cruise control, etc. Does the rear speed sensor have anything to do with the cruise, horn not working? All fuses are good so I am thinking the cruise control switch on the master cylinder or a short in the steering wheel column or my ignition switch. What do you all think?
