I have a 2003 mercury mountaineer 4.6L AWD. The other day it died at the grocery store and now won't start. All it has is the check charging system warning light on. Changed Alternator, battery and starter already and still nothing. It does start sometimes but i need to give it gas to keep it running.
View 7 RepliesMy 2008 2wd 4.0l XLT is having a strange power steering issue. When I start the truck and back out of my driveway it feels like I have no power steering. Within about ten seconds of putting the truck in reverse the "check charging system" warning comes on the dash. As long as it is on I have no power steering. That warning stays on for about 15-20 seconds and then goes away. As soon as it goes away power steering is restored.
I have checked my battery and it is good, it is also pretty new. The power steering fluid level is good. Based on another thread that seemed to have a similar issue I replaced the serpentine belt, the idler pulley and the belt tensioner. No changes at all to the issue. My next step is to replace the power steering pump....
I installed some 5K HID's with 35W ballasts and a relay on my 15 toyota camry SE. When I start the system, it says check charging system and once the engine starts it goes away. I initially had 50W ballasts installed but I changed it to 35W as the 50W caused the HIDs to be too bright for my taste.

Replaced the sensors which fixed it or so I thought. It started doing it again. What is causing this & is this a common problem?
View 2 RepliesA few days ago my charging system warning light came on in the middle of my trip home from work.
I popped the battery out and took it to Advanced (in my other car) and they tested the battery, it was fully charged and was in good condition. So I popped it back in my car and when I started the car I didn't get the warning light on my way back to Advanced.
They tested my battery again, along with my starter and charging system. Everything looked good, except one of the terminals on the battery was a little loose so we tightened it. Next time I started my car the light was back on.
Also, I looked at the belt and it didn't appear to be cracked, but I'm not completely sure how to verify if it's in good shape.
I had my alternator and battery die on me in Dec 2015 and replaced both. Vehicle ran perfectly fine until this Sept 2016. First thing to happen was the battery light came on and then the System Charging Failure message and the tone came on and off intermittently. I took it to my garage and they tested and said the alternator was defective that they replaced in Dec 2015. It was showing 9V.
So they replaced it again free of charge with another rebuilt alternator. Within 30 min leaving the garage the system charging failure light was back on and again i lost charge to the point where everything was shutting down to the point i even lost the gauge cluster. Took it back to the garage and they checked the plug at the alternator and said it was fine. Then they said the belt was loose.
So they replaced the belt, the belt tentioner, and a pulley. Within 20 min the lights were all back on again and I was losing charge and all the things started to shutdown again. Where I picked up the car at 5PM on a Friday they had left and wont be back till Monday. So I am asking here....what is going on??? What else is there to look at or replace to fix this charging error???
I've had this new car (SE Special Edition) for two weeks and I've received the Check Charging System 3 times over two weeks when trying to start the car and it fails to start. My foot is on the brake when I press the Start button. Battery is OK as lights and radio work fine.
This morning I spent over an hour trying to get the car started before having it towed back to the dealer. Service promptly said the car started right up. They confirmed that the battery is OK. Dealer says they are looking further but I'm frustrated that it started right up for them.
The first two times (a week ago) I couldn't start it, I would wait 5 minutes and then it started right up.
I have a 2003 mountaineer v-6 awd drives pretty good but od light is always flashing even if ignition switch is open and truck not started..and check transmission on message display also..the only thing that i feel its really tight on turns as if it wants to lock up but once steering gets straight it runs fine... I know that a regular scanner cant pull codes I got to go to transmission shop but chances are there gonna tell me its trans time....
View 6 RepliesMy charging system light in my 2000 F250 keeps coming on and off and very random times. Its been happening for quite sometime now and I finally joined FTE so I figured I would ask everyone what could be causing this. Ive disconnected all the electrical plugs from the alternator and made sure they were in there well.
It all started when I was cleaning my engine not too long after getting the alternator replaced. I don't remember getting any water anywhere near the alternator and cant understand anything causing this other than the connectors. It will cut on and then cut right off sometimes and then sometimes it comes on and stays on...
My 2010 Prius died while driving... i had to pull over, now won't start. Says check hybrid system. What the heck should I do.
View 11 Replies2010 Toyota Prius III with just under 60,000 miles. The car has been serviced at Toyota from day one (by us and by the previous owners) and runs like a champ. Well, did.
Last week while driving home from running errands the Check Hybrid System light came on for my wife. The car was still running so she drove it home for me to look at. I hopped in and noticed the gasoline engine wasn't turning on. I took it for a spin and even when I floored the car the gas engine wouldn't turn on. Since the nearest dealership is 15 highway miles away I knew we weren't going to make it there on electric power so I had it towed.
The Toyota dealership called me the next day saying when they started the car the light was gone and the car ran fine. They did some troubleshooting and found nothing wrong. They said it might have been a glitch and to come get the car. Not even 3 hours later the light turns on again. Again the gasoline engine goes silent, but this time I didn't even make it a mile and the electric power shuts off as well! We coasted to a stop and had to have the car towed again. This happened out of nowhere and could have been a very serious safety situation had it not happened on the road we were on.
This time the Toyota dealership had a little more to say. They said that their diagnosis has determined that the inverter is shot and they will have to order a new one. They said this failure is extremely rare (the service guy I spoke with had never seen this issue).
friend with their Mountaineer issues and i have no clue where to go or what to do now. Shes had it for approx 2 months and didn't have any issues till this one. It died on her while driving and would rarely start back. She had it towed to a crappy garage and the lazy mechanic stood beside it and "listened" for the fuel pump. He said he didn't hear it, gave her a quote and walked away. She then had it towed home and i was contacted. If i get under the truck while she turns they key on, i can hear/feel the fuel pump. It's quiet, but there.
But now, you can turn it over for about 10 seconds and it will start the almost immediately die. During one of the times before she had it towed, she took it to auto zone and had the codes pulled. I have a scan of all the detailed info i can post if needed, but it pulled: P2104 P2106 P2111 and P2135. Each of those mean something along the lines of a sensor but the only two sensors mentioned in more that one code is the throttle position sensor (TPS) and the Electronic throttle control (ETC). I've been trying to research what i can on it, and from what I've read is when these codes are pulled, those two sensors are rarely the problem.
The red battery light on my 2003 gx470 with 106k miles came on while starting the truck up today. I had the alternator tested by my mechanic and it was outputting 13.0v -13.1v which was low but not causing any loss of power. The battery on two years old and tested out fine. Nothing was flickering, no loss of electrical components, etc. It's the original alternator and I'm going on a 1000 mile round trip vacation this weekend for 10 days I so decided to swap out the alternator since if it was "going" I didn't want it going 500 miles from home. My mechanic does the swap and starts the truck up with no issues and no red light on. Lets it run for 15 minutes and turns off the truck. 20 minutes later they start the truck up to switch lifts so they could balance and rotate the tires and boom the light goes on again? Turns it off and on a few times...light stays on. After testing everything out My mechanic decides it must be a bad alternator or the regulator inside the alternator and gets a different one from a different manufacturer, a Duralast this time from AutoZone. Installs it and the red light comes on immediately. The alternator is putting out 14v.
View 10 RepliesNew Interstate battery, new alternator (x2, 1st was Napa (DOA), 2nd Motor Craft) and 1 new Napa idler wheel. The battery test at 12.5 and when the truck idles it shoot to 15.14. It holds a charge fine, but the check charging system keeps popping up which concerns me, not only because its annoying. Also why such a spike when started...?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2011 F-150 Supercab 4x4 and the brake warning system is starting to drive me nuts. A couple of months ago the warning light came on along with a message to check brake system. I didn't find anything wrong, even flushed the hydraulic system. all seemed OK. Now the warning came back on, the message center will reset and the warning light will reset after shutting off the truck.
I can drive in city/town and the warning does not come on. But if I drive open road for about 30 miles with out using the brakes I get the warning again. I'll reset the message center and it'll clear, then about every 10 miles it chimes and shows to check brake system. It is strange that that I can drive hundred of miles in town using the brakes and not warning but get on the open road and not using the brakes I get the warning after 30 miles.
Check Charging System message, battery-shaped idiot light, and audible beep has happened a few times over the past month or so. Yesterday it happened while my wife was driving so I had to bring it to the dealer, not to mention I drove it last night and there was constant beeping for about a minute which was pretty annoying.
But first I had the battery checked, which turned out to be OK. Also we got a new alternator 5 months ago, installed by the dealer.
Today they said they "updated the computer" whatever that means, and otherwise couldn't find anything wrong. $99.85 plus tax.
Needless to say I'm not confident that "updating the computer" has fixed it. What are the odds we get the warning again in a couple of weeks? Short of disconnecting the sensor, is there anything that can be done?
Three weeks ago I replaced my battery and serpentine belt as general maintenance before heading out on a prolonged trip. The next day I started receiving 'check charging system' whenever I turned the a/c on and the truck is at idle. Power steering becomes very hard to turn and engine feels like it is going to quit.
This is not a problem at highway speeds. Looking at the engine when the a/c is engaged, a slow down of the belt/pulley is obvious. The alternator has been removed and checked, battery checked good, and the belt is the right size/length. What could be causing this? Again it started behaving like this after a belt and battery change. There is no issue if the a/c is off...
I have an 05 V8 and was just on my way home from work driving on the expressway when suddenly my Phaeton completely and instantly died. It was running completely fine and then everything turned off and "system failure" was on the display. I coasted in neutral off the expressway and was able to come to a stop and place the gearshift in park but the key is completely unresponsive and I can't get the gear lever to move out of park. I'm guessing I'll need to get it towed to the dealer but I don't know how it can be towed in park. I have a VAG-COM so I can go up and run a scan but it it currently parked in a vacant lot and I need to get it moved quickly.

View 3 RepliesWe bought a used Toyota Prius 2012 with about 35,000 km in early August 2015. We shipped it overseas. It gives the "Check Hybrid System" error when we try to start it. All the lights and instruments work o.k.
I've read this car be a problem if the car is parked a long time, which it was as it was mostly in a shipping container.
Thursday driving home from work, the thing started dinging and all sorts of lights started flashing at me. I looked in the manual and (finally) found that it is the TPMS. The orange light on the left side blinks for 1 minute and then stays on steady. I also see "Check System" in the display under the speedometer and there is a red light with an explanation point (!) on the right side. Checked all tire pressure. All were at 30 PSI. Checked spare, it was good. Manual says if it blinks and stays steady, contact your dealer. Called...they can't look at it until Feb. 12. I drive 40 miles a day on average. Not a lot, but by 2/12 that is several hundred miles. what could be wrong and if i should still be driving this car?
