2002 Mountaineer... Driving into work today, my over drive light started to blink very fast. I have not had any trouble with high RPM's or shifting..
We had a very rainy/slushy/snowy drive in and never went faster than 30 miles per hour. Could an ice or snow build up be the culprit? I sure hope so!
We bought a new 2002 Escape 4WD and it has been great. Just clicked 130k. However, yesterday my wife said the car clunked when putting in reverse, and then the OD light started blinking. Shortly after that the Escape would not drive in gear, just a spinning noise. After the car was shut off for a few, it would drive again, but not very far. Fluid is good, and it will only drive for a while. I noticed a broken vacuum line coming from the trans, but could't tell where it went.
View 3 RepliesMy wife drives a 06 Mountaineer last spring a left front brake caliper piston seized up and there was damage to the rotor I replaced both rotors and that left front caliper then I changed out the rear pads as well . Then ever so often before that the ABS light on the dash would pop on hit reset it wold go off now it just stays on.
Then a few weeks ago she said the little yellow lines that indicate you are in all wheel drive started to flicker on .. Have not a clue as to why that is on now . But I would told most code readers would not read these sort of problems that I needed to get it to a dealer..
The below is for a 175k mile '02 Mercury Mountaineer 4.0L with 5R55W trannie that has previously had somewhat of a whining sound in 2nd gear (I thot it was rear differential). Note: I just changed the fluid & filter myself last week due to its shifting being a little harsh. Then, this past Sunday, the O/D light started flashing after about 5 min of driving (but the CEL is NOT on). It also did so the next two times I drove it after that.
View 12 RepliesOK, truck is 2000 F350. I am heading on a 2000 mile roadtrip to Yellowstone for my wife's 40th birthday in two days. What was our rock of a vehicle is now causing me severe anxiety.
Over the last few days the truck has been difficult to start - almost stops turning over as if the batteries were low. So I ignored it because if I plug it in, it starts fine and if I drive it and it gets hot - it starts fine.
Tonight while driving - I noticed a high idle and then it went to normal - I thought it was weird and a few miles later at a stop sign it struggled at idle, sort of loping but not romping very high and the over drive light started blinking. When I got home when I went from drive to neutral it goes to high idle and then the overdrive light blinks. The first time it blinked it went off when I pressed the OD button - but now it continues to blink.
Would low batteries be the root cause of this? I will continue my search for blinking OD light but I thought I would get this in the queue in case this is bigger than I can handle. I have 48 hours to resolve this issue - leaving Wednesday early morning.
My 2002 Ford Explorer has a 4.0 liter engine. The overdrive light on the dash is blinking.......what repair and how much would it cost to expedite that repair? Also the ABS light is on....

View 10 RepliesLeft the truck sitting for a couple of months while working out of town. I bought this truck used with only 1 key. We rebuilt the engine and had noise issues so we don't want to drive it much until this is resolved. I went out to start the truck to move it and it would not start. It had cranked right up the week before. Now it just spins over and the theft light blinks rapidly. I've check all the door locks.
When I called a Ford dealership all the service guy would tell me is that it's going to have a new key made and I have to have the title on the truck to get it done. AND, I have to have the truck towed to a dealership to fix the problem of it not starting... The battery drained down so I took it out and charged it... only thing I can possibly think of is a low battery or maybe somebody tried to steal it while I was out of town and messed up something.
had a problem with their OD light blinking and shift problems. This past week my od light started blinking and when I shifted into drive, it was stuck in overdrive. When I shift into 1st it would go to 2nd and stay there. So basically I had 2nd and overdrive. I started replacing sensors like the VSS, and checking the wiring warness. Took it to a transmission garage and they told me it was toast. Then I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new tranny. After replacing the tranny it did the same thing with the same codes showing. Then I got smart and checked the fuses. Of course it was as simple as a blown fuse causing all the trouble. In my truck it was fuse 23 under the dash. A 20 amp fuse that was listed as engine control. Im not saying that in every case if the OD light starts blinking it's as simple as a fuse but in my case it was, so lesson learned. Always check the fuses first.
View 13 RepliesLooking to see how to repair my blinking light. Code reads a 27, most what I've read says it's a PAD light, which this truck does not have. It has been in an accident, both airbags deployed. Since then both seat belts & bags have been replaced, nothing else.
View 7 RepliesMy 2002 Windstar SEL has been giving me a fit and I`m not getting any codes as to why. Here`s the 2 main issues. Clicking when i go to start up in a.m. if it`s below 50 degrees. ( Battery has been checked and all is o.k. or so I was informed). As long as it`s warm it starts fine every time. Also,it seems like the least bit of wet on the underside will cause it to spit and sputter and the check engine light will start blinking until it sits and dries for a while. (A very shallow puddle less than 6 inches deep at low speed or even the automatic car wash that sprays the undercarriage).

He said he drove it today and it takes about a mile or so for the light to come on but then it is a steady blinking. Truck has about 254K miles on it. He said other than the blinking light everything seems normal. How to figure out what this issue may be?

I recently replaced a burnt out left turn signal bulb in my 2002 camry v6 xle. The signal light was blinking quickly. Once replaced problem fixed. Now bulb is not working again and fast flashing is back.
View 2 RepliesHow the seatback comes off of the 3rd row seat on an '02? There is a spring or something protruding from the seatback on the right side towards the bottom. I'm afraid it's going to stretch or poke a hole in the leather. I think if I can get the back cover thing off I can reach up under and fix it. I don't know if it's a spring our of place or what.
View 2 Replies2002 Mercury Mountaineer 4.6L . Ok, 140,000 miles and Engine is seized. Got truck for cheap. So, my problem is this: most salvage yards say that the ONLY engine that will fit into my truck is from an 2002 explorer 4.6L or a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer 4.6L.
Others say the mustang engine or F150 will fit. Can I have other options for a engine swap?
My wife's 02 mountaineer AWD 4.0 v6 non-flex fuel has app. 152k on it. And it's really in decent shape. But over the last month a vibration at all speeds over 5mph has started to develop. It doesn't change with cornering it's constant until you stop. I suspect a passenger side wheel bearing. But when you lift that tire off the ground it has no play in it. But when you lift the entire rear end and spin the tires there's a distinct rumble you can hear. BTW this is a non-LSD from what I gather. Wheels spin in opposite directions when lift up.
Looking at the half shafts there's some ability to twist them. I haven't tried to see if there's any play in them, ie in and out movement. I am considering replacing both wheel bearings and half shafts. My wife likes the car and it's been fairly low maintenance. I've been looking for any info online about replacing the half shafts and haven't found much. I have seen some comments that they rarely go out. How can I determine if it is the half shaft? Is there a retainer clip or special tool needed to pull them from the pumpkin? Or do they slide off? Is there any seals that should be replaced while I am digging into this project?
I have a 2002 accord with 118k miles that recently after a car wash and oil change, the oil pressure light came on a stays on blinking. I took it to my mechanic and he put a manual pressure gauge on and found that the oil pressure was normal. He changed the oil pressure sensor but the light still is blinking. He believes that having the car washed, under body wash, might have shorted out the harness. Been driving the car for a week and it seems fine, no noticeable difference in performance or sounds coming from the engine.

View 5 RepliesOn my new to me 02 Mountaineer, the a/c and heater air on my climate control system is acting up. Everything is working as it should, except that when you direct air to the floor, the air comes out the defrost vents. I took the glove box out and when looking from the passenger floor towards the center, I can see 2 actuators that seem to be working. I was wondering if there were more than 2 of them, maybe one on the drivers side that I am not seeing, Didn't know that if maybe when one closed that another one would open elsewhere. As I said everything else is working as it should. Also the recirculation door is working as it should. Something else that I noticed is that the top port(#6) on the row of the vacuum hose plug does not have a line on it. Where I can get a diagram or picture of the hvac system.

Was driving home tonight and nearly didn't make it. A few miles down the road I hit the gas hard going up a hill but the Passat kind of lunged a little and lost a lot of power and the engine emblem starting blinking. Coasted down a hill and it stopped and all was well again. From here on I am going careful up hills and not accelerating too fast.
I drive about 30 miles, 10 miles to go and I have to pull a tall hill. Going up this hill the light starts blinking again and I lose most of my power, engine feels like its not hitting on all cylinders and the turbo must be out. Barely make it home going about 40 mph. My check engine light has been on for quite some time, in fact I have had reset about 6-8 times with replacing sensors, air mass meters, etc. Could this be the timing belt?
