I hope i don't give the impression on my very first post that I'm a total retard......but ...I can't figure out for the life of me how to get those spring line coupling apart! I've removed the clips...but it just won't pull apart. Is there a tool to release the garter spring?
View 4 RepliesAdding cruise control to F350 XL I just bought. I got a steering wheel with the buttons. But I am having problems with the clock spring. Mine has an 8 wire plug with only 6 pins on the big plug and all of the clock springs I have found have only a 6 wire plug for the big one. Without changing my clock spring I have no where to plug in the cruise wiring. All have been for right year model with cruise and even tried different years but none will plug in under the dash.
View 3 RepliesConversion from the dana 50 to the newer dana 60 with coil spring? My Dana 50 has called it quits so while my front end is already off the vehicle already why not make improvements. Ford used the 50 for 1999 to 2002 then upgraded to the 60, I'm guessing it was for a reason!
I've read this article on a similar project but the dana 60 had leaf springs as well: Dana 60 Conversion for F250 years 1986-1996 .: Articles I'd prefer coil spring, nothing more then personal preference with a bit of better ride quality. The donor vehicle is a 06 SRW F250 This is not what I'll be getting but just as an example of the parts I would get.
This noise I have is driving me crazy, installed neuspeed race springs and now I have this weird spring noise, sounds like the springs are binding and then releasing when you turn the wheel, like a clicking dinging noise, it's on both sides and happens when moving slow and turning the wheel and when stationary and turning wheel, it sounds like tug and release not really spring bind I checked install and everything is correct even disassembled bearing assembly and everything is fine, lubed spring seats with silicone paste nothing is working.
When looking at the spring and turning wheel it's almost like the spring is getting stuck on the middle part of the seat then releasing, I know this was a common problem on the mk6 but I haven't heard anything about the mk7 the spring is seated in the lower perch perfectly the upper is were the noise is coming from you can see as you turn the upper bearing by hand it actually somewhat twists the spring and then releases and that's what makes the noise, and it dose not move in a nice circular motion kind of like an egg shaped rotation and it makes the spring flex and pop I think there's a problem with the springs,
On my 2003 Excursion 7.3L, I notticed I'm leaking what I think is coolant from the passenger side rear hard line by the front spring hanger. I haven't pealed the plastic loom away yet, but I did see the loom is chaffed near the spring hanger. What lines are the ones that carry coolant, and can I just cut the hard lines and replace with a section of rubber hose?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2003 F350 6.0 Lariat Crew Cab long bed. I have had a fuel leak issues for about 2 weeks now. The first fuel leak issue was from the blue spring regulator. I was going to change the part this friday. Well i just drove to get food and back to the house was only gone for 15 to 20 minutes amd never cut the truck off. So i got back home and parked the truck and i cut it off and got out and all of a sudden i here this noise like you hear when a tire has a hole in it and its leaking air out then all of a sudden I hear fuel just pouring out and smoke coming out of the hood. Its night time here where i live so i cant get up under the truck to see exactly what is going on. But I did check to see if it was the regulator housing and it didn't look like any of the fuel lines was leaking that i could see.
View 4 RepliesI have a '77 F250 with a 460. (Under edit) It has a holley 750 carb. (under 2 years old). It ran fine for about 2 years and now all the sudden it seems to not get enough fuel. I have a clear fuel filter on it and you can see that it is full of fuel when I first start it up. Just letting it sit there and idle after about 5 minutes it starts to show air coming through the lines and it gets worst the longer it runs.
If I take it out on the road and drive 55 it will be about 1 or 2 miles and it acts like it's not getting fuel. I stop and open the hood and check the filter and it is empty. What could cause this? I took it to an old Ford machanic and he has checked the fuel pump, fuel lines, sending unit, and gas tank. He is at a loss. I am no mechanic, but I am mechanicly inclined. I can't see it would be that hard to figure out. What do I do?
I've been watching fluid build up on what I think is the hi-pressure line on the hydroboost. It appears to be originating at the coupling in the line because it is dry back at the unit.
Is there an o-ring or nylon washer in this fitting?
Can it be tightened?
Does the o-ring or washer need to be replaced?
Is it a sign of something else, like a build up of pressure in the line that is too high?
I currently have zero problems or noise coming from the steering or brake system.
I work at a ford dealership in detroit, im looking into doing a v/b code swap, and just had some questions. my current stock excursion springs are completely shot. so i need new ones so might as well do the swap. do i need to order or get anything other than the v code springs, and the b code springs, new u-bolts, and modify the b code springs? i do not need shackles or anything to have the ex sit level when im done..? just making sure before i get involved. have viewed many topics on here about it and just want a definitive answer. 2005 excursion, v10. i actually wanted to go with the X's in front, but i dont know how to make those level in back.
View 14 RepliesA couple years ago I did the V Modded B spring swap on my Excursion. The rear was quite a bit higher than the front so I added the 3rd leaf from the old rear springs to the new front and that worked but it is still a bit higher in the rear. I regularly tow one of two different trailers 3000 lb and 5000 lb and occasionally a 20" car hauler 6000-8000 lb. The smaller ones barely squat the rear of the truck. I recently added a Plow and would like to raise the front so it is level with the rear. I need to raise the front about 1-1.5 inches. What front shackle do I need?
View 14 RepliesI have a 1992 Aerostar Sports edition. My clock spring went bad like 6 months ago. I couldn't find a replacement anywhere. Not even at the Ford. I went to different junkyards and couldn't find the same exact one. Since I wanted to change the steering wheel anyway, i got the steering wheel and the clock spring from a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport at the junkyard. The clock spring fits perfectly and so the steering wheel. My only problem is that clock spring harness is different. I have no problem with the steering wheel side since both the steering wheel and the clock spring came from the same car. But under the dash is a different story. I have the manual for my Aerostar with the wiring schematic for the speed control system (cruise control) and horn but i just can't find the one for the 1999 Explorer. I got one for a 1996 Explorer and have the same wire colors than the clock springs i got from the 1999 Explorer. But i want to make sure I got the right schematic to feel confident I'm doing the job right. I can also use another version for the 1992 Aerostar because mine is a little confusing.
My old clock spring had two harnesses. One for the airbag which I am not going to use (i don't like airbags) and a second one for the cruise control/horn. This harness had four wires. One thick black one that goes to the casing of the ignition switch, and three smaller wires (BK, LB/BK, and Y/LB). The clock spring from the 1999 Explorer has six wires on that harness. One thick black that goes to the ignition switch and five more smaller ones (BK, LB/BK, DG/O, Y/LG, and R/BK). Going by the two schematics i have them figured out (i think), but want to make sure.
I'm looking at a pair of springs from a donor truck f250/350. The number on the spring is (rpn 0612 2c34 ca). How to decode this? I know it has an overload top spring. I'm looking for a two inch lift over stock springs.

View 2 RepliesI have my ABS light going on at spring and summer time, almost every day, when the winter starts (I am in Minnesota), it goes on no more than twice in the entire winter. When the light is on the ABS DOES NOT WORK (I tried). This is going on since 5-6 years.

two pieces of some rubber / neoprene-looking stuff were hanging, it seems they are part of some rubber spring "isolator" at the top of the spring??
is this "isolator" a replaceable part? I've been hearing a noise at the rear and now I know where it is coming from. Here's a picture of what fell off:
Here is my current situation. No cruise, Replaced clock spring because the air bag light was also on. Still no cruise, checked fuses, they are fine, replaced bulb in gauge cluster. Still no light coming on at all, so I can't do the self test. Do you think my steering wheel switches are bad? Is there anything else I can check?

The question that I have is that he can get F450 equivalent springs a lot cheaper than F350 springs. I do plan on adding an aftermarket bumper at some point in the future. What should I order?
View 14 RepliesI want some honest opinions on whether a spring swap is worth the money and time to make the ride better and less harsh of ride. I currently have a completely stock 02' 7.3 4x4 Excursion with 204,000 miles. I have been reading a lot on the spring swap and really want to know if it's worth it for the sole purpose of ride and keeping the front off the bumpstops. I don't tow enough to justify it for that reason , and could live without the lift portion because I use it for a daily and family hauler. I experience some sway but not terrible ,but I do believe my shocks are shot as well and I have hit the front bumpstops a few times over railroad tracks.
View 14 RepliesI got the new ones, (as mentioned in another thread) and they're the same as the old ones. Well, the one that's still in one piece.
I guess I'm missing something very simple, but as easy as it would be to cut the old one out...how do I make room between the lower leaf and the other leaf pack to get it out?
I about hung from the lower leaf and it didn't move quite enough to give the room to remove the bumper.
Looks like my gas tank door spring busted.
Is that an easy replacement? Any way to fix it? It won't close completely anymore.
