My 04 Focus squeaks like an old mattress when negotiating uneven ground while turning. Quiet on speed bumps, rain also quiets it, then it comes back after a few hours. (Brief) search on internet indicates no lube necessary, not making sound that would indicate boot problem.
View 4 RepliesMy 11 f150 started to make a jingle noise like washers in a bag while driving over uneven bumpy roads. Normal highways are fine and it does it turning or going straight. Seems to be coming from drivers side. I replaced the swaybar link ends with moogs. Didbt fix the problem. I also removed the bushings abd lubed them with white lithium grease. Still the same sounds on the same conditions. I did t replace the bushings with new ones. I still have a extended warranty on the truck. Might take it in...
View 1 RepliesI have recently replaced a set of new tires (Michelin X-Radial DT) on my Ford Focus 2003. Immediately, I could feel a slight sound like a rub that causes a dull squeak as if I am carrying a load in the car when I am turning and at different times when the road surface is undulating. At other times the car runs very smoothly.
I am okay with it if this is not going to hurt the car in the long run. Another inconvenience I am having is a squeaking sound that comes from the right rear wheel when I brake (sometimes). I was told that it's the brake dusts since the brakes are o.k. How can I get rid of that squeak when braking?
2005 I4 SE Camry USA built. Got a squeak from the rears the other day and pulled the tires to check. Inside pads (ones against the caliper cylinder) on both rear wheels were at the metal but the outside pads were still not down to the little stripe down the middle of the pads, let alone the wear indicator clip. I pulled slide pins and there were not stuck. The calipers retracted very easily, so not gunked up or dragging. I ordered a new hardware kit with the new dust boots and rubber slide pin parts. I am using good Permatex disc brake grease. I am going to have to have the rotors turned, but aside from replacing the rubber parts the only other thing I can think of is slide pin replacement.

There's a loud grinding noise from the front end of car when I turn the steering wheel... even when the car is off and in park.I can post videos of the noise if needed.
So for about two years now I have had this creaking, squeaking noise coming from the left side of the truck. It only happens when turning left(such as 90° turns). It doesn't happen over bumps or while turning right. if you turn slowly the sound is minimal or not there. When it rains and there is water on the road the noise usually stops all together. The noise is not constant. Almost sounds like a shopping cart with bad wheel.
We replaced all the ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks, sway bar links, tires, sway bar bushings, and brakes(not all because of the sound, just taking care of maintenance along the way). My mechanic did my alignment about two months ago and could not pin the noise down and didn't see anything binding. Suggested to change out the sway bar links, but that didn't stop it.
I have a squeak that developed in the steering column whenever I turn the wheel. It is as if something lacks lubrication. It does it in all steering positions. I guess next step is to open it up and see if I can get closer to the source so I can hit it with WD40.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2009 Subaru Outback with 60K miles and this problem has been present since I purchased with 30K miles. When turning left or right over uneven surfaces (like washboard dirt road, potholes, or strips of Botts' dots in a parking garage) there is a loud, audible rattle coming from the front end. It sounds like to metal pipes hitting together. The noise does not happen when driving straight.
Subaru and another garage have inspected. Front struts and sway bar links have been replaced with no effect. CV joints, ball joints have all been inspected with no issues found.
I read on a forum that it may have something to do with the power steering fluid, that when turning there is uneven pressure on both sides and it results in the noise. Possible at the steering column universal joint.
I assume since it only happens to some Subarus that replacing the correct parts will resolve the issue.
So I bought and installed this.. [URL] ..... Everything seemed to go just fine, but now when I turn the wheel I get a rubber on metal type squeak out of both fronts, the right worse than the left. Is there a secret trick I didn't know about? Did I do something wrong?
View 12 RepliesHave my truck in signature making a very high pitched, annoying squeak from the front end. I believe it is coming from the right side because i just took the wheel off and it has a coating of brake dust on it (the 3 other wheels are clean). Only makes the noise when turning right at speed, and goes away when i straight it out or hit the brakes. I am not very good with brakes or the front end parts.. what could be causing this noise? Could the slide pins be frozen? i know that is a problem with these trucks... but not sure if these are the symptoms.

View 11 RepliesStarted hearing a squeak from drivers front wheel area when turning right, thought maybe pads might need replacing but they were fine as were the pins. So I checked for play with tire off ground and there was def some play pulling from top to bottom, so that lead me to the front hub, I read some posts about pulling the abs sensor and getting some grease in the the hub bearing so I did that but when I replaced the sensor and spun the hub it was scrubbing on the bearing.?
So I shimmed the sensor with a washer but now the abs light comes on but there doesn't seem to be a squeak when turning right anymore. Any example of doing this and had the sensor scrub? And with the play I would assume I need to plan to replace the hub assembly fairly soon...

When I start the car I can hear (the engine I think?) squeak only while it's turning over, not after it has started. I also hear this squeak when I put it in park, reverse and drive. I don't hear it while the car is running, so I'm thinking maybe it's the motor mounts?
View 24 RepliesI am a recent new owner of an 06 f350 Powerstroke. Steering Box developed a leak so I decided to replace the box and go ahead and do the pump and hoses while at it. Pump would make some noise so i figured I'd just do it all and be done with it or so I thought. The job was a pain, much harder than the pump and boxes i've done on the older 7.3 powerstroke.
Anyways, used all OEM components (pump was a rebuilt rotorcraft, can't buy new anymore) and everything seemed great for about a day. I tried to bleed the air out per standard practice of turning the wheels with the truck off the ground. At startup and during the first day it had almost no noise at all and the steering felt much easier than the old pump.
Then the pump started to develop the standard annoying ford power steering whine that I hear all the time. Drove it over the weekend on a 160 mile trip and the noise just kept getting worse. As of tonight I can't turn the wheel if the truck is stopped even with my foot off the brakes.
I used synthetic ATF for fluid and there is absolutely no foam or aeration in the reservoir. Good news is I don't have any leaks but the bad is I now don't have power steering. It does make a much louder whine or squeak when I hit a large bump turning, I guess that's just the sound of the pump being stressed more. I am guessing the pump just crapped out but before I do it all over again.
I have an 04 GLI with around 130,000 miles. I have developed a squeaking noise coming from the front end of the car. I cant really tell if its the right or left side. I can tell you i only hear it when driving under 30 mph and it seems to happen more often when i slightly turn the wheel to the right. Also when i accelerate from a stop or let off the clutch pedal into 2nd or 3rd. I wonder if it could be the wheel bearings going bad? I replaced both front and rear control arm bushings back in December just for some background. FYI, by squeaking i mean the sound of metal to metal. Its not a squeal or hiss, or anything to do with a boost leak. When you hear it, it sounds like a squeak, squeak, squeak kinda pattern but comes and goes depending on speed and the turning of the steering wheel.
View 2 RepliesMy daughter has been learning how to drive on our 2010 Sonata GLS, which stands at about 108k miles. We've done threshold braking, ABS activation, some higher lateral force slalom-type stuff, etc. Suffice it to say that we haven't gone really easy on the car.
Now, there is a squeak that began at first at low speeds turning left. The squeak seems to be about one wheel revolution or so (speeds up when our speed increases, slows when the car slows).
After 30-60 minutes of driving around town (city driving and some rural), the squeak happens even when driving straight ahead. We haven't had any suspension work done on this car. I replaced the rotors and pads on all four corners last summer (and bled the lines).
What are the most probable causes of this (and what are the fixes), so I can start tracking it down.
My sister has a Camry that has a squeak in the steering wheel occasionally when you turn the wheel. She lives in another state, and so I'm only going by her description, but I'll be visiting soon.
She describes it as an intermittent squeak/groan when the wheel is turned. I think it may be plastic on plastic, but it is definitely coming from the area around the column (up by the combo switch and ignition switch area), not down by your feet, she says.
I'm not sure of the year, but it is in the 2001-2003 range, I believe. I think this is just an annoyance thing, not a mechanical problem.
I drive an 06 Prius and it just started making this squeaking sound from the wheels when I steer. When I make turns you can hear the sound both ways when turning the wheel.
I took it to the dealership for the steering recall but they didn't seem to find anything. Is it just something I can lube up to make it go away or is it something more serious?
2002 Solara, 69K miles, occasional squeak from steering wheel when turning, sounds as if it is coming from where the wheel connects/rotates at the column - sounds like a weak rubber horn (like clowns use) or a rubbery, balloons-rubbing-together sort of sound. Not loud - only noticed when I was w/out the radio on (had an exhaust repair last week and was enjoying the quiet). It's not an external steering pump whine - it really seems as if it is coming right the steering column. Short of leaving cheese to there to coax out a mouse . . .
View 6 RepliesMy wifes Passat wagon just got the 40k service and the dealer replaced the sway bar bushings in hopes of getting rid of some SQUEAKS that the car has made since we got it, it is lowered on h&r springs and bilstien shocks, however the sway bar bushings really didn't fix it, it seems to squeak when turning to the left and its definitely coming from the back.
View 7 Repliesso I was heading off the freeway to take my exit at night. Didn't see there was a little curb island between the main freeway and exit. Went with the car over the curb and my right passenger tire went out.
I changed the tire and driven off, then noticed the car sound got much louder all of a sudden and when I turn the steering wheel right or left, I hear or feel a heavy sharp sensation- yet the car turns fine, it just sounds louder when I press the gas and when I turn the steering wheel I can feel my feet vibrating a bit and a soft/sharp squeak sound comes out.
What could this be?
