Having issues with front tires on 2013 Ford F150? I have a 2013 F150 with less than 20,000 miles with significant wear on the outer edges of the front tires. The dealer has alignment it twice rotated the tires 4 or 5 times and the problem isn't solved. I now have 4 tires with outer edge wear. What the root cause might be. The dealer can't figure out what's causing the problem.
View 14 RepliesI have am 01 6.8 two wheel Limited. about 150K. My question is about both the front tires having more wear on both the inner and outer edges. The inner is a bit more but not by much.
I have been keeping very close track of my air pressure because I know the usual suspect is low air pressure but I am running 75psi and the max sidewall reads 80psi. I have never had it below 72psi. The truck tracks and steers down the road very nice with no drift or pull to either side. wheel balance is good.
Front end align is good. I have no issues with how she drives down the road. Everything seems to be checking out to be in spec..?
It is an AWD model. My mother just purchased it used from a Lexus dealer last weekend. At freeway speeds, she noticed a shimmy, and she had one of her friends' husbands check the tires out (she's on a road trip and not near me or a Lexus dealer). He found that the tires are starting to delaminate in the front and thread is quite worn on the outer edges.
The vehicle has a warranty (30 days or 1500 miles) and of course Lexus is saying they will only pay for the front tires. (we don't know if that is the whole cause of the shimmy yet I might add). But to deal with the immediate problem, what is Lexus's recommendation regarding replacement of tires on an AWD 350? Do they really say it's ok to replace tires by axle? Because I know that can screw things up on some other cars. . .
I told her to read the owner's manual and see what it says on the matter.
My Bridgestone Ecopias(Ep20s) have 26,000 miles on them and are wore on the outer edges. Both sides are worn. I heard this may be to under inflation. I go to Discount Tire and they set all my tires at 37psi. Is this too low. The door says 35 front and 33 rear. Do I need more air for them to wear evenly? Also I have ordered Michelin Energy Savers. Discount will set them at 37, or should I add more air so this type of wear does not happen? I plan on getting an alignment just in case, but really don't think I need one. There is no pull to either side and the wheel is straight.

Today when I rotated all five Turanza tires (RF > SP, RR > RF, SP > RR, swap L, as per the manual), I noticed the left tires (only) have exaggerated outer edge wear. All three from the right have even wear.
Wifey says it's because I weigh 400 lbs (181kg) and am generally driving alone. When I'm not alone, my passengers are all normal weight. This would be the first time in my life my weight cause uneven wear to tires.
By the way, these tires are LOUD on certain road surfaces.
My 2014 Elantra Gt bought in May 2014 and 18000km on it now, the rear tires on both side are worn out pretty bad on the outter side of the tire. I took it to one of the dealer. The mechanic said that's not about the alignment, it's because I drove too hard in the corner..... So, I made an appointment with the other dealership which I bought the GT. I was told that it need the alignment and it's not covered by the warranty. I don't mind to pay for it but just want to make sure they will fix it.
I have the KYB on it right now. should I swap it back to the oem before I go to the dealer??
I just had my 10k service and noticed my two front tires still had a significant amount of brake dust and the rear tires did not. I always have more brake dust on the front than the rear and was the case when I dropped the car off. The service guy said they rotated from front to back but that didn't happen. I was under the impression they moved front to back and vice versa. What is the standard rotation for tires at the prescribed service intervals?
View 7 RepliesI just thought I'd mention this observed wear of brake pads...I just replaced all 4 up front after about 128k miles...
@ 114k miles it was observed that 1 of the 2 pads of each front wheel had worn significantly more than the other (the inner more than the outer pad IIRC)....my expert mechanic rotated the two and I got another 14k miles out of them...I could have gotten a LOT more had they been rotated @ 50-80k miles.
I don't know if this is extraordinary, or more typical than I'd have thought...or a function of (failing?) calipers, or just how these (MY) calipers work, or just my driving habits (though I've owned the car for only 30k of the 128k miles on the odometer)....but....
In my case the new pads will get a 50k mile inspection and possible rotation if there is uneven wear between outer and inner pads....
I'd recommend that pads be inspected for (uneven) wear at one of the scheduled tire rotations....rotating the pads isn't much of a job, but it might be something for you to consider to get the most miles from the pads (that and better braking too perhaps).
I decided to get an alignment (for the first time since I took delivery of the car). I noticed some unusual wear on the inner and outer tire. I will post a before and after pic of the alignment. As you can see they were unable to correct everything.
The shop says that the prius does not have any way to correct camber in the front nor was there any way to correct the toe in the rear.
I cannot think of anything that would have messed up the rear left. The shop was saying these repairs will need either a new control arm or strut.
'02 SC430 with just over 30K miles. She is wearing out the inside edges of the tires. We have had the car aligned twice in our one year ownership. Are these cars prone to this kind of wear and/or going out of alignment? Would this be a spring/shock/strut issue? I assume the original components are still on the car so maybe she just needs replacement parts due to age. She has low miles, but she is 11 years old now.
View 14 RepliesAbout a week ago I had my car on a hoist getting new exhaust tips installed. At that time I noticed the rear tires are wearing prematurely on the inner edges. So are the fronts but not nearly as bad as the rears. I asked around and was told that this is normal for the factory Pirellis because of the negative camber built in to our cars. This being the reason the car corners so well. I understand the physics of this and I really like the way the car corners. My question is this---Can the negative camber be taken out of the car thusly reducing wear on the inner edges of the tires?? And how much will this be noticed while driving the car normally, and during spirited driving?? I have noticed that some fellows will purposely mod their cars with increased negative camber on the rear wheels, I'm assuming this is to achieve a certain "look".
View 5 RepliesSo, my FWD car has 3 tires that are getting close to replacement tread depth, and one that is only about half worn--it had to be replaced partway thru due to unrepairable damage. The question is whether this amount of difference in tread--maybe 1/8 inch--matters. I could buy 3 and save money or buy 4 and put one away for a good reserve tire. (The spare is different).

They are 19's with the OEM Pirelli Rossos on them, I'm looking for an all season tire that's high performance. I'm really lost when it comes to tires. I'm looking for something that offers good handling while lasting more than 15,000 miles. Somewhere around 50,000 maybe? Again, i don't know much about this...
View 2 RepliesMy 18 inch Conti Contacts have approximately 20,000 miles on them. The tires are not wearing evenly and have excessive wear on the outside portion of the tires. The dealer says that they spoke with VW and VW says that it is "normal" for the tires to wear this way because of the "turning radius" of the vehicle. I smell BS. I don't know much about this subject but it would seem to me that the tires should wear somewhat evenly if the vehicle is balanced and aligned properly.
View 6 RepliesSo I got four new tires on my 92 f150. A day after driving it around. My hub starts going bad. That same day. I notice three wheels studs are broken. So I'm wondering if not tightening or over tightening cussed this. It was great before I took in for new tires. Then a day later my hub goes out. I put 60 miles on the new tires.
View 19 RepliesNot so much hitting pot holes but hitting dips in road I get a noise up front like hard plastic cracked and hitting edges, had the front end checked all fine and he changed the sway bar links said sloppy, still noise, I went under found the front pipe bracket broken so I clamped that, still noise-could it be the strut boot? Doesn't seem to be the shock bushing they seem tight but can not really see them and the upper shock part seems secure. 2011 accent 60k miles. Where I could look next? The plastic around the wheel well is cracked but I don't think all that noise is coming from that, but the next warm dry day I will try to snug that up.

View 12 RepliesMy truck is a 2000 F-350 (with front leaf springs). It has developed a significant shake in the front end. I have read much information about "Death Wobble," but I am not sure that's what my problem is. The truck shakes back and forth and the steering wheel moves what feels like several inches as well. I have already replaced the tie-rod and drag link, thinking this would solve the problem. The truck seemed better at first, but the shimmying came back.
The reason I replaced those particular parts was that I noticed the heim joints at both ends of the drag link had a lot of play in them. So, now I am trying to re-diagnose the problem. With the wheels off the ground, I cannot detect any play in either wheel when I try to move the tire by grabbing it at the top. I did notice that there is 1/4'' to 3/8'' of play in the steering box arm that connects to the drag link.
I am not sure if this is normal or not. The truck has a little less than 150,000 miles on it, so I am sure several different parts could be worn. However, after examining it quite a bit, I cannot see any obvious problems.
I have a 94 Explorer. I recently swapped over from auto to manual hubs. I followed a detailed write-up that I found online. During the process I repacked my outer wheel bearings. Ever since then I hear a grinding noise coming from the front wheels. Sounds like the bearings aren't seated properly. The guide that I followed instructed to torque the spindle nut that sits next the the outer wheel bearing really tight in order to seat the bearing, then loosen it back up and hand tighten it. But when I loosened the spindle nut the wheel bearing would pop back out. What is the best way to get a wheel bearing to stay seated properly?
View 2 RepliesCan I re-use this shaft or is that ring around it no good. The ring is around where the bearing sits. It is a circumferential hump all the way around.
