Front hubs are making a clicking noise pull in 4x4 and it quits also when pulling camper or boat quits make noise when you let off the gas could this be a vacuum line issue or automatic hub issue?

View 2 Replies2009 f150 4x4. My front hubs are ratcheting, I probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. Any trick to find it? I had to drive about 90 kilometers to get home, hope I didn't ruin anything. I don't have a vacuum pump, but I have a vacuum gauge.
View 1 RepliesSo from my previous post of might having a tranny problem or differential issue, it turns out that my front passenger side wheel hub is bad. Here is the odd part......the front passenger side wheel has some side to side play and it does make a clunk noise but it spins freely. On the driver side, there doesn't seem to be any play but it has resistance when spinning the wheels. Are both front wheel hubs bad or just one?
View 1 RepliesHaving an issue with the 09 Platinum 5.4. Recently the air ducts to the passenger side have been routed straight to hell. The blow hot regardless of the setting, the driver side is fine. I can hear a clicking noise that gets faster/louder with the fan speed on the passenger side. I am thinking blend door motor? Possible location of this part and some replacement instructions? Wife and kids aren't digging this hot heat all the time, its a very uncomfortable ride in such a great truck!
View 4 RepliesHaving issues with the vacuum falling off to the hubs when driving and light throttle. I know makes no sense,but kept fighting this thing making vary harsh rubbing sound since I bought it used and I know its the little collar on the back side of hub that engages to hub to make the 4x4 connection but it looses vacuum when driving and very light throttle/load.
I verified using a vacuum gauge ran inside vehicle when driving. Checked all lines and hubs,everything good. Solenoid has vacuum when running but seems to quit when light load or throttle and as soon as vacuum falls off then the collar starts to engage and rubs but doesn't fully engage. I don't get it. Unless there's something on the computer side of it shutting off the solenoid or something.
I have developed a noise in my front end. Sounds like someone shaking a handful of loose change or like bearings without lube. Occurs only while under load. As soon as I roll into or out of the throttle the noise comes or goes. Revving the engine in park or powerbraking does not reproduce the noise. Also I put the truck in 4x4 and the scratching noise goes away but I get a big shake and a clunk every so often especially under throttle. I'm thinking CV joints but that doesn't quite make sense. I've got 57k miles on it now with about 54k on a 2.5" level and 35" toyos. Not sure if this would normally be covered under the powertrain warranty, but with the lift and tires I doubt it so it looks like I'll be tackling this one on my own, hence the post. Any tips on Where to start on a 04-08?
View 8 RepliesMy front axle is making a groaning like humming noise when the truck is cold and first starting to drive it. It does it when speeds are at 30 mph and under and goes away when putting it in 4WD. It sounds like the hubs but I'm not sure. The dealer hasn't been able to duplicate it because they haven't kept it overnight. I'm just wondering if this happen to the truck, was it fixed and what was the issue. Like I said, I think it may be a vacuum issue to the hubs, but not sure.
View 12 RepliesWife's 2010 F150 4x4 85000 KMs makes grinding / ratcheting noise in LH front axle when in 2 wheel drive. Mostly when turning left some times when traveling straight never when turning right. Never makes the noise when in four wheel drive. I am suspecting the auto hub is the issue but wonder if others have had this trouble ?
View 5 RepliesFirst off I have a 2009 F150 4wd 4.6L truck...we have noticed a grinding noise on the front driver side wheel...we have replaced the auto locking hub acuator and the hub assembly but the noise is still there....it has us puzzled now not sure what it could be. I have read many different threads on this issue an it seems that it might be something to do with the vacuum. The noise is only on the driver side and only in 2wd, when its in 4wd it doesn't make the noise at all. Also while in 2wd the noise seems to go away when we let off the gas.
View 5 RepliesJust installed new actuator and wheel hub assembly on my 2009 f150,truck still had grinding noise in front passenger wheel , New solenoid and vacuum hose kit installed when test drove noise still there until you put the truck in 4 wheel drive it disappears . The noise returns as soon as you take it out of 4 wheel drive. Also mechanic said steering was tight,installed new shaft same thing, could this be the rack and pinion.
View 5 RepliesToday I was out getting lunch in my Ecoboost When it started making an extremely loud grinding noise from the front end of the truck. My first thought was I blew a turbo. After holding the break and building boost I discovered it was not the source of the noise. Also the truck runs perfect and there is no smoke. I then took it to my friends auto shop and pulled both front tires off to check and see if anything break related came loose. We found nothing. The noise only happens upon acceleration or cruising throttle, as soon as you let off the sound goes away. So after I found nothing I took it to ford and what would cause that, but they assured me that they would have my truck for a long time while they figure out the issue.
View 14 RepliesI have noticed recently that I have a "rubbing" noise and vibration coming from the right front wheel on my FX4. It is most noticeable from 5-10 MPH, and more pronounced when turning right. it is not constant. It sounds almost like a brake pad rubbing on a badly warped, wet rotor. It goes away when I apply the brakes. I am thinking bearing or possible CV joint.
The dealer can't get it in until Tuesday, and they say I will have to pay the deductible on the ESP, even if it is related to the steering vibration they could not replicate or fix about a month ago. I am seriously considering going to another dealer for my service. Given, they did absorb the deductible last time, but they didn't fix the problem!
I've got an '12 F-150 with 7k mi. on it. It developed a squeak/creak noise about 1k. mi. ago. It comes from the r. front suspension area and I noticed it one morning leaving from work. It occurs under suspension loading/unloading and it only happens during cold and dry conditions. It won't make the noise when it's wet or damp outside. I've had it at the local dealer 2 times now and they can't seem to locate it. It sounds like rubber on metal or when the 97 & 98's had the dry tie rod ends or ball joints problem. They are reluctant to throw parts at it to try and eliminate it and I agree with them. What were the findings?

View 3 RepliesThis evening, my F150 with 2,600 miles developed a high pitched squeal, much like you might experience on an older vehicle with failing front brakes. Yes, that same squeal/grind the brakes make...metal on metal. It came in instantly while at highway speeds. It was VERY loud. The pitch didn't really change with speed...it was pretty consistant going slow or fast. There was no vibration, chatter or growl as I would expect with a failing bearing.
It was definately in the driveline/brakes. I was 10 miles away from a friends house, so I turned around and took it back to his place. Shortly after turning around, it quieted, only sounding when I would turn ( like a wheel bearing would when being side loaded ). I looked at the brake disks, thinking something was grinding on one of them. The outsides of the disks looked fine. Due to the shields on the inside, I couldn't see.
Later in the evening, I had to drive it back home, about 50 miles. Again, it was quiet unless turning fairly hard. By the time I got home, the squeal had turned into an intermitant growl/thump, as if a warped rotor was banging on the caliper. The noise was 1 to 1 with the rotation of the driveline. But still no vibration. Brakes work perfectly and the noise doesn't change with brake use. Backing up and turning hard results in a variety of sounds, including squeaks.
The hubs and CV joints felt cool. The brake disks were not hot as if they were dragging.
It is 4x4 / 3.7l
2011 F150 Limited 4wd 6.2 liter. I just bought the truck a few weeks ago with 26,000 miles. Late last week I began hearing a mild grind/rustling noise that appears to come from the driver's front. It's not terribly loud (loud enough to hear), but it's annoying. It happens when I slow down (on and off the brake and below 25-30 mph) as well as let off and begin to speed up. It doesn't last but a second after I let off the brake and speed up though. The kicker is it does not happen all of the time. I drove it home from work last night and it did not do it one time, but driving to work this morning it happened every time I did what I described above. I have taken it to our local tire/suspension shop and they claim they could not reproduce the sound which does not surprise me. They did a full inspection and found nothing.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2wd 2011 F150 90K with grinding noise coming from the drivers side front tire. Even though it was happening when coasting I thought it might be pads but they are real good. Turning the hub with no tire on it I can hear a little grinding. So I suspect bearings. I want to remove the hub but can't find out how to pull that off.
Where I would expect to find a spindle nut there is an area where it looks like you put a puller in. Can't find any videos or other information on the "Internets". Maybe I'm the first to have bad bearings? Anyway, how to remove the hub?
Coming home from a trip with my truck pulling the 5th wheel, we heard noises that seemed to be coming from the front hubs that sounded like stones in the hub caps. Once we got home I pulled the front lug covers to see if any came loose and were rattling around inside, but all were torgued properly. Everything drove strait and tight with no noticeable problems, should I be concerned....

View 5 RepliesSo yesterday afternoon I went outside and started my truck up. Upon starting it up and flipping the AC to high I noticed a clicking sound coming from somewhere inside my dashboard. It did not change in rhythm regardless of what setting the blower was on. But it remained for a couple of minutes before it subsided.
For the record it wasn't a subtle clicking...It was a very obvious sound. After the noise went away I continued to use the AC and it worked just fine like it always has. What it could have been? 2011 F-150
