My truck just hit 110k on the clock, and i've never had the transmission fluid changed. Is this something that I am past due on changing or early? I don't know when it is supposed to be changed. If so is it something that you can do yourself?

However my independent mechanic's "after market" maintenance manuals say that the DSG should not be touched for the life of the car. I am perplexed
View 10 RepliesI have the normally aspirated 3.7 V6. The ownersd manual talks about the trucks computer telling you when the oil changes are needed.....But, at 6500 miles, bnothing has come through. I have not changed the oil yet on it. I feel this is a huge sin, but am not sure.....I was raised you changed the oil every 2-3 grand. But the owners manual on this truck says the computer will tell you when to. Should I just go ahead and change it?
View 7 RepliesI wanted to change oil at 1000 miles on my new 2010 FX4. The dealer said that I should wait till 2500 miles or so because it still has the break in oil in it.
Does he know what he is talking about or should I change it? He did say he would change it and take my money if I really wanted to.
Maybe my thinking is still old school about changing the oil right away with a new engine.
Changing the front diff fluid on truck. I was looking at mine today and it looks like the top bolts will be difficult to reach.
I also tried to suck the fluid out of the fill hole but couldn't really fit a tube into the differential.
2009 Ford Explorer - 6cyl - 4L - auto trans - 35K miles. I'd like to change the automatic transmission fluid, but as some may already know, there is no dipstick on these vehicles. I have one of those hand pumps which will fit on the quart bottles and I'd be able to pump new fluid in (through where the drain torx bolt is). My question is: How do you know when the fluid level is correct when re-filling and then checking ? Also, I'm assuming that this has to be checked while the vehicle is running and in park ?
View 10 RepliesThis is my first Lexus and first new car in a long time. I have a 2015 3IS RWD and looking through the Services Guide I don't see any service interval for replacing the rear diff fluid or the trans fluid. All the manual says is under "inspect the following" check diff fluid level and check trans for leaks--and that the trans is a closed unit with no dip stick.
As far as my automotive knowledge goes, all transmissions are closed and yet many in the past have had dip sticks. Also, I've never heard of just topping off diff fluid if you're low. And both definitely have had service intervals! I change the diff fluid in my S2000 every 15K miles.
I find it hard to believe that the Diff and Trans fluid doesn't EVER need to be replaced.What are the service intervals for these two and the fluid weights?
What is the right mileage to do transmission fluid change on my 2009 prius? Toyota said I don't supposed to do it on that car, never, but i think that's not right. I do lifetime warranty on transmission but still would like to put fresh fluid on transmission. Its about 190dlls at dealer. I currently have 44k miles on it and I am not sure to do it or not..
View 9 RepliesI have a 09 Honda Accord manual transmission V6 with 59K miles. Recently, it seems to stick a little going into 3rd gear - only third. Called our local dealer's service department who said I should have done a drain and fill on my transmission fluid at 30K miles. I have driven manual transmissions for 30+ years and have never heard of this - but this is my first Honda. The owners manual is not very specific about this maintenance recommendation. Did I create unnecessary wear and tear to my transmission or is my dealers service tech just working to humble me?

I just dropped the transmission oil pan and changed the filter. Put a new filter in. 5qt of oil came out, I put 5qt of oil back in. Oil level is right between the A and B hash marks.
I start up the truck and put it in gear and nothing happens. Its like the oil filter dropped and it isnt getting oil. I dont think this is possible because i watched it go in, the oil pan holds it, the seal came out with the old filter and the seal went in with the new one.
Am I missing something here? this oil change went just as well as any other tranny oil change i have done but the thing wont move.
about a week ago I popped both of the passenger side tires By hitting a rather tall curb while trying to avoid being t-boned. And I have had the passenger side jacked up for about a week now while waiting for the shop to order and get in my new rims. It has been raining here for the past week so I only just noticed today that there was a puddle underneath of my truck.
It looks and feels like engine oil but it is leaking from the back of my transmission. I can't figure what it might be because transmission fluid is red and my transmission has never overheated So it should not be burned. It has 128k miles on it so it also only has 8k miles on the last fluid change. So it's fairly new fluid. What this could be?
I know some seal is obviously broken and the way everything is wet around just the back bottom of the transmission it looks like it is coming from the transmission. I originally thought it was just the transfer case got hit and it could be a bushing at either the transfer case or transmission but there is no scraping on anything under the truck so none of it was hit or damaged from that. What could be causing this?
My new to me 2010 f150 4x4 superCrew Lariat is great. Got the 6spd tranny. Do a lot of maint. Myself and wanting to change tranny fluid since I hit 90k. Didn't see a dipstick. Called the stealership and they told me I can't do the change n/c I need certain equipment.
Are there any write ups? Are there any more surprises with this truck, like routine maint issues that I need to be aware of? I plan on doing diff fluid changes. Is this possible?
My truck just had it's check up at the dealership. On the slip it stated ATF fluid on rear housing. The tech said "No big deal maybe take a better look and maybe replace rear gasket later down the road". So first where is the check hole as I know there is no dip stick plus I think you use your finger to figure level. How far up should it be? I go over my truck about once a month looking for stuff and would like to include in my inspections.

View 4 RepliesStarted a while back and comes and goes. Only commonality I have found is the truck needs to be warmed up for it to happen and usually after a few hours of driving. The downshift from 5th or 6th into fourth, at times, produces anywhere from a light to violent clunk, feels like a typical tranny slip. It will do it while in cruise and it will do it if I don't have the cruise on. Can't figure out if it is going to be a tune issue or hardware.
It does it only downshifting into 4th from 5th or 6th, no other downshifting is a problem and usually the 6th to 4th produces the worst results. At highway speeds that is usually a shift from around 2Krpm to just over 3K rpm (6th to 4th) if it is from 5th it is about 2500 to 3K. Start from a stop and go WOT and there are no issues.
Having it in Tow/Haul or not makes no difference as far as I can tell. IT can do it on one hill and the next time be just fine or do it 2-3 hills in a row. After this last trip it will do it at 9K feet or at 60 feet elevation, didn't make a difference there either.
Another issue that may be hurting the computer is the truck originally came with the 235 tires, it now has 285's and the rear is only 3.31. I plan on going with 265's and maybe still a gear change to 3.73's in the future. I usually only notice this on long trips, first was a 1500mile hauling an ATV, second was last week during a 2500 mile empty. Although I have had it do it a few times locally. I figure those bigger tires can't be good especially with that high of a rear for the management system.
I just found out there is no dip stick/fill tube for my 07 Expedition 6spd 6R. How to refill after service without using a flush machine. I also can't find any spec sheet on how much to refill or how to tell when it's full.

View 4 RepliesI have been changing the transmission fluid. It seems the consensus is that unless you are driving under extreme conditions (other than "normal"), it may be advised. I am probably driving my 2006 V8 Phaeton "normally" but I am not sure of its previous life. For example, it lived in hot and humid South Carolina and may have done a lot of highway miles. So I am thinking about changing that fluid for safe measure.
View 24 RepliesI have a 2003 Santa Fe 2.4L (automatic) with 200,000 miles. Auto shop is recommending I change my transmission fluid. I've heard that changing the transmission fluid on a high-mileage vehicle is potentially dangerous. I haven't noticed any symptoms of "bad" transmission fluid.
