Have an issue with their third brake light leaking. The shop priced 275ish to replace/fix leak. I figured a 5 dollar tube of clear OSI would do stop the leak just as well. Any reason why I shouldn't just seal the brake light instead of replace.
View 9 RepliesI washed my truck for the first time tonight, and while doing so, I noticed what looks like water got into the third brake light on top of the cab. Is that a common issue and is there an easy fix? I've seen foam inside at the very bottom of the light fixture, it kind of looks like there are two housings though, with the foam in between. I checked the inside headliner, and everything there is dry.

I have a 2011 F-150 Supercab 4x4 and the brake warning system is starting to drive me nuts. A couple of months ago the warning light came on along with a message to check brake system. I didn't find anything wrong, even flushed the hydraulic system. all seemed OK. Now the warning came back on, the message center will reset and the warning light will reset after shutting off the truck.
I can drive in city/town and the warning does not come on. But if I drive open road for about 30 miles with out using the brakes I get the warning again. I'll reset the message center and it'll clear, then about every 10 miles it chimes and shows to check brake system. It is strange that that I can drive hundred of miles in town using the brakes and not warning but get on the open road and not using the brakes I get the warning after 30 miles.
2009 F-150 FX4 5.8 .... Had a couple days of 20's temps, started truck last night and I have the brakes symbol and ABS light staying on, with the message "Check brake system" and the traction control symbol alternating back and forth. On a 16 mile trip, they all went out just once, for about ten seconds when I restarted at the gas station. Then came back on. Brake job done within the last two years by previous owner at the dealership.
View 2 RepliesI was changing my oil the other week and when i went to pull the filter I noticed that my tranny pan was wet around the front side, as well as the flywheel insp. plate, and the tranny dipstick tube. It wasn't even enough to drip on my driveway, but wet none the less. after cleaning it up really well and driving it around for 15 minutes it seemed to be coming from the dipstick tube about halfway between where it seats in the tranny and top end of the dipstick.
Removing the tube was easy, just one 10 mm bolt on the back of the engine. After further insp, there was a small piece of insulation on the tube where it passes between the engine and exhaust manifold. when i removed that insulation i noticed there was rust on both the top and bottom of where the insulation sits. i looked it over really well and didnt' see any cracks or holes. I then pluged one end and blew into the other and didnt' notice a loss of pressure or any hissing noise.
I figured if it wasn't leaking and it was already out i might as well clean off the rust and hit it with some paint. I ran a wire brush over the lowest spot of rust and what do you know, 3 tiny little pin holes. I used some 2 part apoxy from work and some aluminum duct tape to repair the hole temporarily until i got the new part in the mail yesterday. total install took around 10 minutes.
I have a 09 f 150 4wd that i took in for a trans flush, the electrical bulkhead connector on the rear of the trans appeared to be leaking so i got the replacement part and asked the service shop to throw that in if possible. Two valve bodies were partially removed and the said part was still not accessible. i said No!!! put it back together and do the flush! s
So the flush was done (by a ford tech) and now the back up lights, rear parking aid, and rear view camera are all out of commission!
It has been in the shop for 2 days now and the flush was done a second time for whatever reason, now it wont come out of third gear. the shop owner called me to say i bought the wrong filter... I don't have the part number handy but i got it from oreilly. they say it is the filter for the 6r80 trans with the 21 bolt pan. does that sound right?

It is definitely a leak around my back window, passenger corner. I have personally watched water run in and not run out the back, but in my cab. My Issue is that I cannot find any info as to how to lower my back seats to access the screws required to remove the window.
My truck is a 2011 XLT Supercrew/Cab, whichever is 2 door. Full backrest and 60/40 seat split. below is a picture of my seat and behind the headrests where people say to dig around for a "pin" to pull up and then lower the seat, but it appears I don't have that option.

The doors on my truck were leaking water into the cab due to poorly adhered splash shields on the interior of the doors. The splash shield sits between the door shell and the trim panel.
Signs of the leak are water pooling in the groove in the weather strip at the bottom of the opening. Mine were pooling water at the front of the opening and when the door was opened you could see the water running down from behind the door panel.
If you have a water leak along the door opening on a newer vehicle, make sure your dealer checks for this new TSB. It was supposedly only put out in the last week.
2010, 5.4L... Noticed a small oil spot under the truck this morning. Took it into the shop after work, we lifted it up, and ran it for 15 min to see where the leak was coming from, and the truck did not leak a drop... until we turned it off. The oil would slowly leak near the power steering pump pulley. But only when the engine was not running ...
View 1 RepliesBrought my 2011 Limited (6.2 so old school hydraulic power steering) in for its 45K service, and they found a weeping high pressure line. $100 special order part + 3 hours labor. This seems a little soon (to me) for PS components to be failing already, or is this a common repair? They said I could leave it alone for now and monitor it but could lose power steering while driving (safety risk).
Any history of high pressure power steering line leaks at such low mileage/age before? Does 3 hours labor sound about right?
I have a 2009 F150 that when I came home from Cabo Monday, had a big puddle of fluid under the truck. I took it to Ford and they said it was some type of bolt on the tranny that is nationally backordered for who knows how long. They topped off my fluid and told me I would be good to go till the part comes in.

It looks like it's the shock absorber leaking. I just rolled over the 4,000 mile mark. I'm dreading taking it in to my nearby dealer. View 10 RepliesI put on new Power Stop drilled and slotted rotors with Hawk ceramic pads. I did the brake in runs and could feel the stopping power improving. When I got back to the house I looked at the rotors and I noticed that on the driver's side the pads are not parallel to the rotor. They are hitting on the outer edge of the outboard side and the inner edge (closest to the hub) on the inboard side. Took it all back apart and I can't see and reason for this. Double checked all the mating surfaces and didn't see any problems. I torqued the caliper brackets to 150 ftlbs and the lug nuts also to 150 ftlbs. Is it a problem the caliper sliders?
View 9 RepliesI have a '09 Ford F-150 Lariat, 5.4 with a lighting difficulty. Previous had it in for service for exterior lighting that was intermittent and uncontrolled. A door module was replaced and reprogramming performed by the dealer. Worked OK for awhile, but today I noticed that brake lights were on while the truck was parked.
Checked all that I could think of then pressed the caution light button, activating the front/rear caution lights. Turned the caution button off. Brake lights went off. About an hour later, noticed the brake lights were on again. Tried different things to deactivate the brake lights, but to no avail - brake lights stayed on. Have disconnected the battery - this is where it sits at the moment.
My 2010 screw 5.4 has only 20K on it and last week the low brake fluid light came on. Yes I know I need to do the pads and with the little miles the truck gets I was waiting on slightly milder weather to address this. I added fluid and went on my way. Last night the light comes on again, my guess there is a leak somewhere. BTW truck stops fine. First question; Any recalls on the brake system? I bought the extended warranty so since this probably isn't pad or rotor issue should the dealer fix the problem? I'm in a real bind here as my lady in is rough shape health wise and I need this truck ready to roll at all times.

View 14 RepliesI have read and re-read the owners manual fuse section. Can't find what fuse I blew. I do not have trailer brake or turn signal on either side. I do have running lights on the trailer. Which fuse or fuses control the brake and turn signal lights on a 2012 F-150 ecoboost. I had them all a month ago, but bought a new trailer and first time I pulled it the lights went out. Figured I blew a fuse, but can't find the one! No power at the receiver.
