I bought a 2013 XLT 4X4 wiht 5.0 V8 about 3 months ago. I reset the computer when I first bought it and it shows an average of 15.7 MPG. I have also kept records of all fuel purchased and my actual mileage is 15.2 MPG.
View 7 RepliesI've recently purchased a 2007 Prius and have been tracking my gas mileage. I've been comparing what the computer says and what I get by dividing the miles since last fill w/ the number of gallons to fill. I always reset the computer and have always let the tank get almost empty (flashing fuel gauge). I consistantly calculate 2-4 MPG LESS than the computer reports. I talked with a friend who has a (I think) 2006 Prius and he does the same but his calculations and the computer usually within a few tenths of a MPG. I took my car into the dealer today for the accelerator pedal recall and asked them to look at the MPG. They could find nothing wrong and said that was "normal" I'm not convinced... What do the rest of you see?
View 14 RepliesFailed to start or do anything with 22K miles. Week previous failure to move at stop sign. Stepped on again OK. WEnt on the hook to servicing/purchasing dealer. PCM? Replaced and so far all is good. Now the trans shifts earlier and will go into 6th at 40 in town driving; never went in until 65 on freeway before. Could the replacement part before newer model 14/15? Or maybe not for a MaxTow with 3.73 gears I have? Is it thinking and finding my driving style.
View 5 RepliesThe computer apparently calculates the fuel economy per trip (or a series of trips if the car is stopped less than 2 hours) but I don't know how to get it to display the fuel economy for the tank full. Normally I'd reset the computer upon refilling but since it calculates per trip it doesn't calculate per tank. Fortunately the fuel gauge seems to be pretty accurate and each mark is approx 1 gal so I can do a quick approximation but I'm used to having the car do the tankful calculation. BTW, I reset on MFA 1, I've never reset on MFA 2 and that doesn't show tankful economy either.
View 3 RepliesI've done 3 oil changes since picking up my 2012 Lariat 5.0 a little over a year ago. And I've always questioned the accuracy of the oil dipstick - seemed to always read 'low'.
I just changed oil tonight (Motorcraft 5w-20 semi-synthetic), and I measured the oil that I drained out - just about right at 8 qts. I put in 7 qts and 24 oz (about 1.6 - 2 oz over the 7.7 qts that it calls for) and the oil barely reaches the low level on the dipstick.
I guess between what I drained out and my current oil level reading, my dipstick is not accurate.
I had a 2006 Corolla S 1.8L automatic with 232,000+ miles that was taken away too early by two other cars making a sandwich out of it. It was still getting 32 -37 mpg consistently and about 370 - 390 miles per tank at least before I'd look for gas. I just replaced it with a '13 Corolla S 1.8L automatic and average out near 28 - 32 mpg (but it's winter). My issue is the readout on the gauges. I've got a 120 mile round trip for work daily (all highway). On the way home yesterday, gauge showed 1/4 tank and distance said 85 miles (enough to get home).
At about 26 miles left, yellow light came on. At gas station 19 miles left til empty (or so I thought), yellow light shut off and gas gauge went back up slightly off E. Filled her up and it only took 10.2 gallons after topping it off a couple times after the pump shut off. Distance traveled was about 320 miles on that tank so around 32 mpg. I'm o.k. with that but I thought these had the 13 gallon tank like my '06? Were there still 3 gallons in there and the sending unit may be bad or am I missing something? BTW car only has about 6600 miles on it as of right now.
I have a 2013 F450 Platinum and I love it. I would really like to get my gear ratio closer to 3.73 for fuel economy. Have not been able to find replacement ring and pinions to go to 3.73, so my only other option is to do it through changing tire size. I have 4.30 gears and based on what I have found, 37 inch tires will get me really close to the 3.73 ratio. I want to keep my truck as close to factory as possible, but I do want to do a leveling kit.
So can I fit 35x12.50x17 Toyo MT under my truck with just a leveling kit and use the stock rims? If not, what are my other options?
I have seen the option to swap to 22" shaved Alcoa's, but don't really want to go through all of the spacer/adapter stuff.
I have a 2013 f150 & the fuel pump relay fuse burnt out. I unhooked the battery cable "wasn't thinking" & took the fuse out & replaced it. Now my truck wont get over 3000 rpms & is driving like i got bad fuel or something. & now its throwing codes about my trac & I don't know why. Just from unhooking the battery cable & hooking it back up. What it is??
View 7 RepliesA couple weeks ago, the "average fuel economy" display on my 350 F-Sport disappeared - when I'm looking through the different displays, it skips straight from "average speed" to "current fuel consumption". All the other displays are still there, so I'm not sure what caused this. I'm wondering if I'll have to bring it in to the dealership.
Some info about the car: It's a 2014 IS 350 F-Sport with ~6000 miles, and it just had its first service a few weeks ago (shortly before this problem started).
Just wondering about the "miles to empty meter", should I disregard it when I have high mpg? (50-60 mpg)
View 6 RepliesEvery time I turn the car on, the "from start" fuel economy reading resets to 15l/100k. After driving for a while it goes down to 4l/100k but then resets back to 15 once the car is turned off. Is there any way to get it to stay at what it finished at?

View 8 RepliesI have a 2008 prius. Usually it gets me around 52-55mpg, I've had it since January. Since a couple of days ago its not giving me anything above 49. I know thats a normal number, but considering the fact that its usually quite a bit higher I'm wondering what the cause of the drop is. Also around the same time, when I pull out of my driveway I notice what appears to be a bit of water leakage. Its under the vehicle in the front center, and it only happens when I start the car for the day and pull out of my driveway (its on an incline).
View 4 RepliesI am wondering about how fast to accelerate for maximizing fuel economy. I understand with the P&G approach that you don't want to get up to speed too slowly. The question is whether it really is more efficient to go ahead and get up to speed or stay within the ECO guidelines? In particular, I find that getting up to highway speed especially that it can take quite a while to get up to 70 mph without having it going into the power range. It seems like it is better to get up to speed and then back off to go to the high efficiency mode.
View 16 RepliesI am experiencing Dismal fuel Economy, I filled the tank about 16 gallons (tank read full) and went 118 miles, I burned to about 1/4th of a tank remaining, so a rough estimate is I burned 12 gallons of fuel to go 118 miles, leaving me 5-8MPG Cruising 50-60 miles an hour.... What should I be looking for..... I have 110,7XX on the truck. it's slow as heck, it hesitates and just has no get up and go unless you really step on it. It's had a recent tune up.
Plugs were changed at 105,000 miles roughly.... I'm at a loss to know why this little truck is burning so much fuel. It's the 6 Cyl Flex fuel engine. with just normal fuel run in it...I've looked at night for arcing wires and there's no flashes... there is no real miss, I checked the intake for pirate air and fixed one minor leak and have recently rechecked it as well...I've not pulled the plugs out again yet....
I have a 2006 mercury mountaineer awd v8 which up until a few weeks ago would be able to get 22 mpg highway. I have noticed that recently it has been around 17 mpg at the same speed. Could all of this be blamed on winter gas blend, or is there more to my problem?

Anyways, the reason I thought I needed to fill up was that the gas gauge was down to one bar. However I was only able to add 8.3 gallons. I thought 1 bar=1 gal but that turned out to be inaccurate.
View 18 RepliesSo I was wondering if I could get everyone's input on this. I recently got a 2013 FX2 5.0 with the 3.55 axle. I traded in a 2007 5.4 FX2. It seems everyday I learn something new. I would like to discuss the difference between both trucks. I will list a few DIFFRENCES and if you all could list a few more that would be great....I am sure there are some I don't know.
5.0 motor, 6 speed transmission, Electronic locking rear end, Electronic fans versus clutch fan system, Bigger rotors/ brakes, electronic power steering, no fuel cap, Power fold mirrors and I ASSUME I can remove these spark plugs without breaking them.
When should I get the first oil change in our 2013 F150 5.0? We took a 1,000 mile trip right after getting the truck. It's been two weeks and I have put around 1,600 miles on the truck.
Also, how often is everyone getting regular oil changes with the 5.0?
Took my truck in Friday for my first oil change at the dealer and they put Pennzoil in instead of Motorcraft. One would expect Ford would require their products in their sponsored dealerships. i didn't realize until I was home and placed a phone call to the service manager and have not got a return call.

What this may be and how to verify the issue? I'm interested in taking care of this myself if it is easy/moderate level of difficulty to isolate issue and fix.
