View 4 RepliesI have a 2103 F150(5500 miles) and a 2013 Ranger Z522 bass boat( 23'-4800 lbs 3000 miles). I get that ole strange vibration between 60 and 65 when towing) My tire dealer balanced all 8 wheels for me. I tried to get my truck to do it by itself but did not notice. It does not do it all the time. I'm going to say about 1/2 the time it does it and then it will not. It only does it at that speed range which to me at one time was a wheel balance problem.
When it does it i can see the head of my trolling motor on my boat vibrate with it. I did try to give the truck a little power to see if it effects it. It did not. I did this because back in the 80's i had a truck that the drive shaft was a little out of balance. Power to the drive chain would effect it enough that you could notice. I've tried to get the truck to do it by itself but can't.
Just bought a new diesel pusher RV. Want to flat tow my 2013 4x4 Lariet . Looking for examples in flat towing. Is it too big of a vehicle? How stable is it? Please give me your thoughts.
View 8 RepliesHave towed or driven Class C MH for years, now have 2014 F150 Ecoboost. Pulls great.
Question: while towing up long incline, engine got hot, shot message through dash saying truck would shift gears to ovoid overheating. I have read I should lock out 5 and 6 on slow steady climbs. If I am in tow mode and want to downshift, how do I do that? I know I can shift entire thing to 2nd gear - but I assume that is not what we are talking about here. On this particular climb it was hot (100 out) and I was blocked in left lane going slower than I would have liked. RPMs were low.
Looking for detailed description of process. I also regularly use Tow/Haul. Sometimes on decline I will downshift to 2nd or 1st and not use brakes at all going down.
Today while towing a 10ft trailer with a golf cart my truck seemed kind of under powered. It has the 5.0 with 3.73 rear end. When I got to where I was going I looked under my truck and there were spots all over the rear end and axle and frame that looked like oil or transmission fluid. I cannot find any noticeable leaks. The air temp today was 100 and the transmission gauge stayed around 200.
View 4 Replies2010 F150 - 5.4L ... I encountered a disturbing chatter/buzzing noise while towing recently. I have not towed a lot with this truck but recently bought a 8.5x18 enclosed car hauler and have towed the trailer about 3000 miles so far. Twice I have experienced a chattering noise from the transmission under very specific conditions. Was traveling on a long flat road at about 70 MPH in 5th gear at about 2100 rpm when it started. If I let off the noise would instantly go away.
If I accelerated and went into 4th the frequency and tone of the chatter would not change with either RPM or speed, however, when I let off it would go away. It is almost impossible to reproduce because it has to be flat. It did once start to chatter in 4th when I was pushing a strong headwind at about 70 MPH and 3000 RPM.
I have a 2013 F150 Ecobost. It is a 4 door 4x4 with the single rear drive shaft. When I pull my boat I get a very strange vibration between 60 and 70 MPH Mostly around 65. I had my balance checked all around on truck( not by Ford dealer) and took my Bass boat to the factory and had them go thru all the wheels and balance. It worked but I still have vibration. When I'm pulling the boat and the vibration starts I can see the trolling motor shaking on the front of the boat. At this time I do not think it is the boat. I have a tongue weight of about 350 Lbs. Having problems with F150 with a little load on the rear. Truck and boat are both new with low mileage.
View 9 RepliesDriving to work the other day on the expressway going about 65 and my truck starts vibrating and jerking like crazy. I thought i had a blow out , so I checked my tires and they were ok. Then, I thought I may had run over something. I continued off the ramp and drove on the highway to work, no sooner than a couple of minutes later it happened again. I had a tow truck take it to the dealer, this was Thursday. It's now Sunday and I haven't heard from customer service after they told me they'd call..... Its an EcoBoost by the way.
View 2 RepliesHe has a 2013 F-150 XLT with the Ecoboost. He has 29,000 miles on the truck.
He is ~1,300 miles into his trip; and has about another 4,500 to go! On Friday, his check engine light came on (while towing). The next day it went back off. Yesterday, the light came back on (while not towing this time). He took the truck into a Ford Dealer in Rapid City, SD this morning. The CEL light was still on this morning when he arrived at the dealership. The dealership said the code is P0299 - Turbo Underboost.
They said they've run tests and can find nothing wrong. Naturally, he is not very happy being this far from home with 3 more weeks of vacation left and his truck acting up. Especially since the CEL light is on but the dealer can find nothing wrong. I'd be puckered-up too!
Experienced this Turbo Underboost condition? What was the cause? How can the CEL light be on but the dealership not be able to find a problem?
Ever since day 1 when I make a hard stop i had a vibration when braking - heard i need to put bigger rotors on also change calipers - asked FORD about this and they said it would have to be aftermarket rotors and calipers ???

View 14 RepliesHaving trouble with the radio in their truck? When I started my truck today my radio would not turn on, no AM/FM, CD player, Suris or Aux input. It does not matter what buttons you press. The sync will not work and none of the controls for sync.
The display said Ford Tough then the temperature was displayed, but the clock was flashing on and off. There was no pattern to the clock flashing on and off it could flash once or twice then nothing for minute or two then flashes once to 4 times then nothing. I tried a hard reset by disconnecting the battery for over 15 minutes but it made no difference.
I have a 2012 f150 stx 5.0 and I drive mostly city with a few highway miles. Why get this bad of gas mileage?
View 8 RepliesI've done 3 oil changes since picking up my 2012 Lariat 5.0 a little over a year ago. And I've always questioned the accuracy of the oil dipstick - seemed to always read 'low'.
I just changed oil tonight (Motorcraft 5w-20 semi-synthetic), and I measured the oil that I drained out - just about right at 8 qts. I put in 7 qts and 24 oz (about 1.6 - 2 oz over the 7.7 qts that it calls for) and the oil barely reaches the low level on the dipstick.
I guess between what I drained out and my current oil level reading, my dipstick is not accurate.
I have noticed that on my 2012 5.0 Screw that the A/C isn't very cold. It is no where near as cold as my last truck, or any of a number of late model cars I have driven. If it's over 85 and I have it set to auto (70 degrees) it will never get there and just run full tilt the whole day. Even if you select Max A/C and blow it on you you will never have to turn the fan down from being cold as in other cars.
View 14 RepliesI am looking at installing a CB in my 2012 F150. This thread isn't electronics based, there is already a sub forum for that. This thread is about radio placement. I have a 2012 f150 XLT that I special ordered... meaning I got the front buckets with the center console. I have an old SBE Sidebander IV that was my grandfather's that I am going to swing by the CB shop this week to get checked out. If everything is a go, I will go with that. So, this is a big radio fromm the 70's, not the little tiny things that are sold today.
So, whats a good location? Vertical on the front of the console maybe?
We just sold our 04 Supercrew that was rusting out from underneath itself. I was unsure of what to get next until I drove this 2012 F140 XLT supercrew with the ecoboost. It is in fantastic shape and drive great. It does have 90k on its odometer and I wasn't sure if that should be of any real concern.
It was a one owner trade in and you would never tell the mileage by looking at it. I averaged 5k miles per year for the 5 years I owned my 04 so I don't drive real far. I also tow a 20' ultra lite camper which may get upgraded to a 24' ultra lite in a few years.
I just didn't know if I should be concerned about the high mileage with my driving habits and not driving very much. Do these motors have any maintenance issues? Everything I've read seems to be good....
This story really piqued my interest : [URL] ......

How do I remove the Air Bag from my 2012 F150. I want to install a Cruise Control Switch.

View 10 RepliesI have a 2012 F-150 XLT with 5.0L V8. I am constantly getting a PO304 (misfire) error. This is what my mechanic has done to try to correct the problem. 1. replace plugs 2. replace coil 3. replace coil cables 4. replace injector kit.
The question I throw out is: What other part or adjustment is left?
After clearing the error it seems the Check Engine Light will not come one until the next morning. The engine seems to misfire then then I get the Check Engine light again.
I have a 2012 F150 5.0L that I bought used in 2014. Apparently the original owner had replaced the exhaust with a dual exhaust (converter to muffler to two pipes out of muffler), but didn't spend a lot of money on it (?) and it rusted out. My dealer--we have a pretty decent dealership here, and they've done my service for years--sent me to a local exhaust/muffler guy, who recommended that I go back to a single exhaust, and happened to have an OEM setup that had come off of someone else's new truck. He put it on my truck, and so far all seems fine. (small town; bad service places tend not to survive, and both the dealer and the muffler shop are institutions)
I'm an older, single woman who has horses, so my truck is primarily for hauling one or two horses and hauling hay and feed and such. I want my truck to last--my previous one was a beloved 97 F250 7.3L diesel that I had for 17 years, but, while the engine will run forever, the peripherals were starting to worry me and it needed to find a home with someone for whom getting stuck on the side of the road was an adventure, not an major inconvenience. Anyhow--so, I'm a gentle drive, my truck gets serviced regularly, and reliability is my primary concern.
The new system is quiet. Really quiet. Coming off a diesel, I actually liked the bit of growl I got from the old system, and being able to hear my engine, but I didn't have the heart to say that to the nice gentleman at the muffler shop, and it's not a big deal. My concern is that I have no way of knowing what vehicle the thing came off of, and the guy said it didn't matter that much; it did fit on my truck, and he said it came off of a brand new F150, but it had a suspicious "CHEV" chalked on it ... (FYI, there is an additional resonator after the muffler--it was a bit of a tight squeeze between the spare tire, but it did fit)
So my question--should I be worried? How quiet should my truck be?? It is my understanding that the OEM exhaust on the 5.0L has a bit of growl to it, so I kind of doubt this rig came off of a 5.0. How generic are exhaust systems? What effects might it have on my engine? I trust my service guys, so I trust their recommendation of this muffler shop, but I'd like to hear other opinions, beyond "it will be okay ..." Are there any "buts" in this situation?
