My 2011 F-150 Super crew eb has started to have a knock that comes from under the dash in the radio area. It doesn't occur every time it's started. It is 3 or 4 knocks that sound like a plastic gear slipping, then it stops. I am thinking something in the vent/defrost door. Is it vacuum operated or electronic? Any thoughts?

When the tires spin (like taking off on a hill in the rain - that's when i noticed it) and I let off to let everything settle down, I hear a rattling kind of noise coming from the middle dash area, maybe on the engine compartment side of the firewall. It sounds like a rubber ball in a box being jostled around. What this might be?
View 3 RepliesMy 09 FX4 Screw has developed a strange thumping sound coming from the undercarriage within the last month or so. Very noticeable when turning on even terrain. It's just barely under warranty and I am planning on taking it to the dealer.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2012 Ford Supercrew, 6.5 FT bed, Ecoboost that I got in April. About two weeks after I got it, someone ran a two way stop right out in front of me and I hit them on my drivers side front. Damage pretty minimal considering their car was totaled. I had my truck back from the body shop about two weeks later. Everything was great.
About 3 weeks after I had gotten my truck back, I began to notice a strange noise that sounded almost like someone was opening a door really slow. (more of a rapid popping sound than a high pitched squeak) It only happened on acceleration and the sound was coming from the passenger side right up next to the firewall. I figured it was something that wasnt tightened correctly from the body work. I took it to Ford for warranty work and told them this story...they werent concerned about the wreck. They suspected suspension...I agreed this was probable.
They checked and tore down the whole front suspension on the passenger side. They ended up replacing that whole side with brand new parts, new shock, upper lower control arms, new coil, gaskets, etc. Problem was still not fixed.
I took it back to the body shop where it was worked on and had the foreman ride with me so he could listen to noise. He said that he believed it was the suspension as well. He said that most of the bushings that sit on top of the coil come from the factory sort of dry...he suggested breaking it down and putting teflon grease between the bushing and the top of the coil tower that mounts to the frame. He said he has had luck with that.
Long story short, the driver side began doing the same thing. I took it back to Ford and they agreed to try what the body shop foreman had told me. Still no luck!
My front suspension has been replaced and broken completely down three times, tightened back up to factory specs, and re-aligned...and still no fix!
It sounds like a truck with 250,000 miles when I first accelerate, and I can still here it a cruising speeds when I hit bumps (air has to be off to hear it well)...
My 2010 F-150 has a vibrating noise that seems to be coming from within the dash. The noise starts around 40mph to 50mph. It stops if I let off the gas or I accelerate. I cannot figure out where or what is causing this.
View 3 RepliesI have had my ecoboost for a couple months now. Overall I am very happy with it but I have noticed a shudder recently when accelerating and when coming to a complete stop at times. I only feel it when accelerating from a stop or when stopping completely. Kind of feels like something slips. I think I recall reading about this before on the 2011 and 2012s somewhere. What is causing this and is there a fix or is it just the way these trucks are?? I can deal with it but it is kind of annoying when driving in traffic.
View 1 RepliesSo the other morning I drive the 140 miles out of town to work for the week. when I pull up to the job site the cooling fans were revving really really high! never heard this before. then it went back to normal after I opened the gate and parked my truck and shut it off. I'm driving maybe 5 miles tops to the job and back to the motel every day. however that is far enough that my heater should be warming up and it's not even coming close to warm. it blows cold air. and to compound that I'm not sure the cooling fans are even working. they don't appear to be. Is there a connection here?

Have a 2011 F150 with the 5.0. 91K miles. On startup-cold or warm-there is a ticking/tapping noise coming from the engine for about 3-5 seconds then it goes away. Happens on every single start. Sound like it's coming from driver side on top of engine, but hard to pin point.
View 3 RepliesThe fuse was not blown. The bus connection for that fuse was burned from a high capacitance caused when there is a loose connection.......period.
View 13 RepliesIt's a balmy -11 c here, my remote start wouldn't work... I go outside and try to manually start the truck and it turns over for 5 or 6 seconds with ZERO catch.... Fuel tank is at 1/4.... Added some fuel just in case... Nothing.... 6700km and it's dead in the driveway.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2011 Ford FX4. Lately when I start up the truck I get a grinding type noise that seems to be coming from the 4X4 RCS module in the engine compartment. It stops after about 20 seconds or when I put the truck in gear and start driving. It happens every time I start the truck now.

View 3 RepliesBought the 2011 F150 Lariat used, no window sticker shows online, got a build printout from the Ford parts man. According to the build, it says "with remote srart".
Got one key and separate fob with the truck....just a black key, not the remote key. Had a second black key made at dealers expense and kept one remote from the trade in. All works well but.....Would like to have the remote start functional.
Dealer says buy the key, $140, plus cut and program. Lock shop says $190 for it all.
My question is if I buy the key and have it cut, can I program it properly in the truck....including remote start.....since I have two regular coded keys?
My Dad's 2011 Raptor has been having starting issues for about a month now. He turns the key, it turns over, but doesn't actually start; the same thing happens if he tries to start using remote start. It will start once in awhile on a 2nd or 3rd try, after throwing the shifter back and forth from Drive through Reverse several times and trying again, but not most of the time.
It doesn't happen all the time, but every once in awhile, and always at random times.
The first time was accelerating at an intersection a month ago. A second or so after hitting the gas, the engine died in the middle of the intersection. He took the key out, threw the shifter back and forth, tried again, and it started right up without issues.
Later that night, he tried starting it after sitting for over an hour (and had started it several times before without problems), and it failed to start, even after 7 or 8 tries. He had it towed to the dealer the next morning. He even tried starting it that morning in the dealer parking lot, without success. Several technicians apparently started it several times later that day without any issues! They didn't fix or replace anything, because they didn't find any problems. When he got it back, it worked perfectly.
A couple weeks later, it had the same problem at the gas station, after getting a full tank. My Mom told him that her truck (a nearly identical '11 Raptor) had the exact same issues several times in the past, and her trick was to let all the lights in the truck turn off, then try starting. He did that, and it worked!
Tonight, the same issue emerged. He did everything that had 'worked' in the past, and it still failed to start after about 10 tries. It's headed to the dealer on Monday, but what it might be?!? I also want to add that when it starts, it starts flawlessly, without hesitation; as if there wasn't a problem.
I purchased a new 2011 F-150 Lariat, Ecoboost, SCrew, 4x4 last weekend. I love the truck. It is very comfortable, the Ecoboost has been incredible, and the ride is very nice. I am looking forward to towing my ATVs after I hit 1000 miles.
Yet, I have one problem. I get an incredible amount of wind noise and wind whistle from what appears to be the driver's door. I read other posts about wind noises and wind whistles (e.g., bug shield), but they do do not apply to me.
I'm planning on dropping it off at the dealership this week for them to take a look at.
This has happened about half a dozen times while accelerating. It sounds sort of like it's between a scratching noise and a rattling noise. It's only happened at highway speeds 50-60 mph while accelerating and will stop when I let off the gas. There have been a few times that i can get it to come back if i step on the throttle again, but will not duplicate every time.
View 14 RepliesMy 2012 3.5 ecoboost has a knock and power lag during acceleration. Dealer diagnosed as timing chain and cam shaft phasers. I asked if this was common and they said, "yes, it will happen to all of them at some point." Basically, he said if you baby the truck it will take longer, but still happen. Wasn't surprised I'm having it at 67k miles as he saw another recently at 70k. The power drop is dramatic, so I don't see any option, but to have the work done.
View 14 RepliesRecently, my CEL came on. I had the guys at Autozone read the code and they said it was the knock sensor on bank 2. I disconnected the battery to clear it but after 100 miles or so it came back on. Idling, my engine runs as quietly as it ever has (can't tell it's running if the windows are up) so I'm hoping that the sensor has gone bad. I can't hear any knock at any speed but the re-appearance of the light has noticeably affected the engine performance. Any link that even shows where the sensor is located? If I can find it, I can replace it.
View 1 RepliesMy EB makes a moaning noise when I am accelerating up to speed when driving "old Man " style. I guess its the turbo blow off valve(s) like used to happen on my old 7.3's. I hope its not anything to worry about. The truck runs string and gets 18 mpg mixed driving. I do get bon it a lot too.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2003 passat. I have noticed, and its getting gradually worse, a knock that comes from the dash. I get one knock when I go round a corner and then a similar knock when I go round an opposite corner. Its as if something is rocking from side to side.
It sounds like its coming from behind the dash just off center to the left. Perhaps behind the passenger airbag? Its difficult to tell exactly.
At work we have a 04 Passat 4motion wagon that has a strange noise coming from behind the dash. The best way I can describe the noise is like computer hard drive loading. It happens continuously even when the radio/cd player is on.
