Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2010 XLT - Engine Making A Whining / Roaring Noise When Accelerate
May 21, 2013
2010 F150 XLT 4.6V .... Not too long ago my truck started making this whining/roaring noise when I accelerate. It does not matter what speed I am going from the slowest to the fastest it makes this noise but it does not make it when it is idle or at least it is not loud to the point where I can hear it while inside my truck. I am not sure what this can be I am at about 51,000 miles and have no problems other than the noise besides the fact that to me it seems as if it pulls at times when I drive it but others say they don't feel it pull. So I am not sure what is going on and I do not want to take it to any mechanic I'd rather fix it myself and know what is going on with my vehicle?

I have a 2012 3.5 eco boost. It has 82,000 miles. I just purchased a large travel trailer. That is the first thing I have ever towed. When I was accelerating onto the interstate the engine started making a chirping noise.( not the normal turbo whistle). It went away when the rpms came down, and now every time I accelerate, it makes the same noise around 2000-2500 under load.

I got some issues with my f150 2009 supercab... 6,5 box 5.4 6speed 160k on it...
For the past 30 k my truck vibrates between 20/30 kmh when accelerating mostly when making a right turn and when engine is warm, feels just like driving with 4x4 and doing a u-turn....
I'll get the transmission flushed but didn't work (does shift smoother though). They said the u-joints were still good ,no play. I don't hear any strange noise either
In the last while i read a lot about trouble with the pinion angle/driveshaft/slip yoke and what all on the newer f150
Can I grease the slip yoke myself easily or? Is there a complete aftermarket driveshaft available that solves the problem permanently instead of temporary or would it be the transfercase? Cause i didn't buy this truck new so not sure if the transfer case oil ever got changed,or does it not need to be changed ever?

I have a 2013 F150 FX2 5.0 motor that hit 16,000 miles. I took it yesterday to dealer for oil change. After 1 hour they advised me it was ready and that it was sitting outside. When I start the truck with my door open I notice a slight metal on metal sound coming from the driver side wheel well. Its not a constant taping sound. It more like its morse code. I called the service adviser. They take the truck, They came back 30 mins later and said. They hear the sound. Sounds like it coming from the bottom of the motor by the oil pain. They confirm its coming from the motor. I had 2 options.. Leave truck and let them dig into it or come back on Monday and drop the truck off. I left with the truck but will be returning on Monday. I spoke to a buddy mechanic and he said something is wrong and he believes they ran my truck without oil. He said maybe the tech started the truck and then realized he forgot the oil..

So I have a 2012 Elantra Limited. From what I understand the power steering is no hydraulics and is only electric assist. So I have a strange problem. I can remember in previous cars when a power steering pump was going bad it made a whining type noise that changed with engine speed. My Elantra is making the same type of noise. I'm trying to track this down. My car doesn't have any other symptoms aside from the noise. It's hard to really tell but it does appear to be coming from the belt side of the motor (passenger side).

My car is making a sort of whining noise; it sounds like some sort of tire noise, but I checked the tires and don't see anything that could be problematic. My husband checked to see if anything was rubbing, and doesn't find anything. The car is quiet when it is not moving, and the noise gets somewhat louder and slightly higher-pitched as I accelerate. It almost seems like the noise changed on a different road surface, but again, I don't see anything different with the tires. The car has about 140-150,000 on it. The noise has only been noticeable for a couple of weeks. No other problems, no change in steering or handling. No incident that I can think of that could have been a catalyst.

A few weeks ago I started noticing what I would best describe as a whining noise when I accelerate. It's not very high-pitched but definitely noticeable. It seems the more I accelerate, the higher pitched the whine becomes, and I can only hear it when I am accelerating. It is not very loud: if I have the radio or stereo on I can't hear it. I have a 2009 Corolla LE with around 122k miles on it (I drive a lot for work.) A few weeks ago I had the car in for an oil change, and was told that my battery was getting low and will need to be replaced soon, so I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with it. As far as describing the specific location of where it is coming from, the best I can say is that it's coming from somewhere under the hood...I know that's a very vague description, but I can't really pinpoint it to anywhere beyond that.

I have an issue with my 2009 F150 Platinum. I'm hearing this whining noise when I decelerate. This seems to be the only time I hear it, not while accelerating, so I want to rule out the transmission but it may be a drivetrain problem.

The front of my truck is making a roaring noise after playing in the mud while your going down the road is the only time I hear it. It sounds as if I have really aggressive tires on it. I did do my best to clean out from under it... It doesn't seem to feel like its dragging. 4x4 engages fine? I mean it started only after a few days of playing in it, I didn't wash the mud off right away. Should I be concerned? I mean if its just some dirt up against something, then that is no big deal, but my ranger whined when it was low on differential fluid. However its not whining, just roaring.... Should I be concerned? Truck drives fine... no issues there.

I have a 2009 F-150 with 5.4L 4x4. Recently I've been hearing a whining noise when I'm driving at low speeds. I don't hear it at startup and if the truck is idling in the driveway the sound goes away after a while. Only while accelerating and turning. I can't tell if it gets worse while turning or not. At first I thought it was an idler pulley, but since it doesn't happen when idling, I am leaning on power steering pump.

I just bought a 2010 F150 XLT XTR SuperCab 4X4 with a 4.6L 3V engine. I had a 2003 5.4L and a 2004 V10 before and this new engine seems to be nosier then the older ones I've had. It's a ticking/fluttering type noise I here when I'm standing outside the truck while it is idling. Is it normal for these newer 3V engines to make this noise? My wife has a 2009 Hyundai Santefe and it makes a similar noise just not as loud. Does the 5.4L make a similar noise also?

My ALT is making a bad whining noise and when I disconnect it, the noise stops. it also seems to be slowing down the engine if that's possible.
The batt voltage is the same with the car running or stopped. no cell, batt idiot light comes on at startup and goes off like the rest of the warning lights.
This is the 2006 2azfe 4 banger.
I believe its gotta be a diode pack shot. Is it difficult to replace the pack or should I just get a rebuilt one? The Haynes doesn't show how to disassemble the alt and replace anything but I should be able to do it. would I also need to replace the brushes at the same time?

There is a grinding noise when i make a turn, when i straighten out it's fine, when i bought the truck in 09 i had a shudder problem but that was repaired by greasing the spline in the drive shaft. Truck has 59,000 and is coming up on the 60,000....

I have 111,000 miles on my car and I take great care of the engine (or I try at least). I recently just had my first timing belt, water pump, and other belts changed 2 months ago with no problems at all. Recently, my engine just started making an annoying "whining" noise. It almost sounds like a bad transmission or something. However, it makes the same sound in "idle" and whenever I rev the engine the whining noise gets louder. I know the noise is coming from the left side of the engine and I think it may be my alternator dying. When I move the steering wheel around the sound does not get any worse too.

Front wheel bearings making noise. Can I buy replacement bearings/races/seals, or must i buy a whole new hub front assembly?

I went to start my car this morning and it seemed my battery was dead. I then had my car jumped. It started fine, but the trip meter was reset. As i was driving it seemed fine. I then came to a stop at a traffic light and the engine started failing. I parked and the guages started going nuts, the engine was making a high whining noise, it sputtered a bit and then shut off. What is going on? Is it something i can do myself having little experience working on cars?

I bought a 2010 f150 from the company I work for.... It had a blown front diff, when I bought it, I just put a complete front diff assembly and front drive shaft on it. Thought I was golden, but when I accelerate fast there is a slipping/ snapping noise which sounds like it's coming from transfer case area... Accelerate slow and steady up to highway speeds it doesn't happen. This problem only happens in four wheel drive.... what this could be!???

I have a 2002 Honda Accord coupe with 130K miles on it. A few days ago the AC started to make a loud roaring noise when it is turned on full blast. As you turn it down the noise gets quieter and when the fan is on low the roaring noise stops. Other than making this sound it is running fine and there are no other issues/noises coming from the car. What is causing this noise?

I purchased an 1999 F250 Super Duty truck last Sept., it ran great all winter, now when I accelerate I notice a whining type noise (that's the only way I can describe it) it only does this during acceleration not @ idle, could this be a bad water pump? However there are no leaks or puddles of anything in my driveway.

2014 crewcab lariat 4x4. Here is the question. This is only when I'm backing
it up and only after putting truck back in drive do I get the steering wheel whine. It sounds as if it is low on fluid. Only last for a seconds or two. Could this be the start of a steering problem or possibly a brake issue? Just throwing this out there.

Our 2010 LE has been making a noise while steering. When you steer it left and right, it clicks. Regardless of whether the vehicle is moving or not, it still clicks. It sounds like its coming from under the upper steering column cover behind the steering wheel.
