My 2010 F-150 Lariat 5.4L 2WD Ext Cab with 76,000 miles is leaking power steering fluid. I traced it down to the cooling coil in between the radiator and the transmission cooler. It does not look easy or cheap to get out of there. Stop leak scares me a bit...
View 14 RepliesI have a 2010 F150 4.6 3V... The power steering reservoir is constantly losing fluid. I've purchased the truck,used, a few months ago, bought a warranty. The dealership has had it multiple times now and can't find the leak. They just keep replacing hoses and the problem keeps occurring. Also worth noting, the truck has 6" lift with 35s. I've have also pulled the radiator cap and found a decent amount of what looks to be sludge/oil inside. Dealership says it's probably just bad coolant.

View 4 Repliesabout a week ago I popped both of the passenger side tires By hitting a rather tall curb while trying to avoid being t-boned. And I have had the passenger side jacked up for about a week now while waiting for the shop to order and get in my new rims. It has been raining here for the past week so I only just noticed today that there was a puddle underneath of my truck.
It looks and feels like engine oil but it is leaking from the back of my transmission. I can't figure what it might be because transmission fluid is red and my transmission has never overheated So it should not be burned. It has 128k miles on it so it also only has 8k miles on the last fluid change. So it's fairly new fluid. What this could be?
I know some seal is obviously broken and the way everything is wet around just the back bottom of the transmission it looks like it is coming from the transmission. I originally thought it was just the transfer case got hit and it could be a bushing at either the transfer case or transmission but there is no scraping on anything under the truck so none of it was hit or damaged from that. What could be causing this?
I have a 2010 f150 XL. 4.6L The power steering would work one day and not the next and work again and so on. But now it just stopped. How can you tell if the pump or the rack and pinion is bad. My reservoir full of fluid. When I start the truck turn the wheels there's no whining sound. Should the fluid in the reservoir be flowing?

When I first got the truck I noticed small dark spots in the gravel but attributed it to the A/C. I parked over some fresh snow the other night and found some fluid stain on the ground in the morning. It was kind of by the motor and then a little further back. It was the color of yellow/chartruse antifreeze but the truck has pink antifreeze in the overflow tank. What is going on?
View 7 RepliesMy 2010 2.5L FWD Escape has oil on the steering boot and has run down on crossmember (?) It is equipped with Electric Power Steering. This appears to be coming from the rack and pinion but does it have fluid in it? How can you add if it does. I have 96,000 miles on the vehicle and except for a drivers door actuator and scratched drivers glass, this is only problem.
View 5 RepliesMy 2010 screw 5.4 has only 20K on it and last week the low brake fluid light came on. Yes I know I need to do the pads and with the little miles the truck gets I was waiting on slightly milder weather to address this. I added fluid and went on my way. Last night the light comes on again, my guess there is a leak somewhere. BTW truck stops fine. First question; Any recalls on the brake system? I bought the extended warranty so since this probably isn't pad or rotor issue should the dealer fix the problem? I'm in a real bind here as my lady in is rough shape health wise and I need this truck ready to roll at all times.
View 6 RepliesMy new to me 2010 f150 4x4 superCrew Lariat is great. Got the 6spd tranny. Do a lot of maint. Myself and wanting to change tranny fluid since I hit 90k. Didn't see a dipstick. Called the stealership and they told me I can't do the change n/c I need certain equipment.
Are there any write ups? Are there any more surprises with this truck, like routine maint issues that I need to be aware of? I plan on doing diff fluid changes. Is this possible?
Had the diff checked today.fluid was grey in color,looked like it might have a little water in it. 2010 limited slip. wasn't over full. 10000 miles.
View 12 RepliesI am a new owner of a 2004 F-150 FX4. Bought the truck with a leaking power steering and I have isolated the root cause of the leak. It is coming from the "transfer line" attached to the center of the rack. The top portion has simply rotted through. I have searched the forum and google for about a week and only found one thread where someone actually asked about replacing the hard line on the rack. Unfortunately, no one chimed in with a part source and all my searches only come up with a HP line or Return line....no hard transfer line leading from the rack to the gear box.

View 14 RepliesMy Camry 2011 (55k miles) had complaints of power steering fluid leak and needs rack and pinion assembly replacement.
I have powertran warranty only, so this one is not covered and when asked for the dealership for estimate, they said it would cost around 1700$.
Can i get this replacement done at local shop, if so will there be any problem to my powertran warranty ?
I was driving home the other day when i heard a groaning when turning. i stopped to check the power steering fluid at O'PepZone and it was really low. i bought some fluid poured it in while the car was running. it foamed a bit from all the air but then the PSF started emptying out of the reservoir underneath the car.
By the time i got home it was groaning and basically empty of PSF again. when i crawled under the car, i saw a lot of fluid on the passenger (right ) side of the car by the subframe and a little bit by the driver (left) side of the car. the leaks seem to be from the ends of the rack and pinion. no detectable leaks by the hose/hard line connections.
Other than the leak(s), the steering has felt very good. no play to speak of and no weird sounds either.
This makes me wonder if i somehow damaged the seals when i installed my PSS9 coilovers....
I have a leak coming from the top of my reservoir from the under the cap for some reason. I bought a new cap and it seem to stop for a day and now it leaking out from under the cap again. What is the reason it would be coming out of there. Am I going to have to replace the reservoir??

In the picture I attached, the large silver bolt is leaking. Its a slow leak: yesterday morning I wiped it off, and then we I got home from work there was a bead of power steering fluid, but not enough to drip.
What is the best way to fix this? Is it as simple as tightening it?

There is some fluid leaked onto the ground.1. What possible causes could these be? (How to diagnose the problems?) and how much might it cost to repair? 2. I need to drive the car ~2,000 miles from Chicago to LA in August. What major checks do I need to do before the roadtrip to ensure a worry-free ride? (I need to fix the A/C for sure). Also, is this car able to haul a U-Haul trailer (5' x 8' in size) with household goods worth a small studio apartment?

A family member did a tune up on the car and did not realize that the power steering reservoir had a HOT and COLD min/max lines. He filled up to the max line for HOT while the car was completely cold. He also filled up with Prestone Power Steering fluid with Stop Leak instead of ATF/DEXIII.
The car was driven a few times for maybe 50 miles in total before I found out about all this and I drained the fluid out to the appropriate levels. However the steering at low/parking speeds is still very tight (tighter than what I used to remember, at least).
Did he royally screw up the power steering system here? What can I do?
