I bought a 2004 heritage V6 Transmission was bad my father in law rebuilt it (he is a retired Ford Transmission guy) in drive it will not shift out of low if you take off in 2nd it will shift out of low on a rare occasion the OD light on the shifter will start blinking and it will shift fine?

View 1 RepliesMy VSC and check engine light have come on. In addition now the auto trans will not shift past 4 gear with in auto or with me doing it manually. My local shop who has worked on this car before and is very good put the computer reader on it and got a P0500 for vehicle speed sensor "A". Today they put it on the real monitor and it reads a different code that says check engine code but does not reveal the code to read.
I really don't want to go to my dealer and get it hard. The car has 175,000 and until now has run great. I tried the gas cap fix to no avail. The shop did a reset when i first got there and it last 75 yards.
The kid at body shop called, he has the cab ready to swap onto the 04 gas job except for the shifter cable at the trans. I have never done one either, and do not know how to take it off. I thought it was like the old trans where it was in a plastic grommet, but the cable almost looks like it is grafted to the trans. How to get the cable off the trans shift arm?

View 6 RepliesI have 1995 Toyota Avalon w/173K miles. It’s in good shape mechanically and cosmetically. My 16 yr old daughter is the primary driver. I have extensive service records and have replaced the springs/struts, o2 sensors, and a few other bits. My question is related to hard shifts and a check engine light. During the summer the trans shifts normally. In the fall & winter, when temps dip below 50 degrees, the trans shifts harshly and the check engine light blinks indicating a trans solenoid is defective. The trans fluid has been flushed twice, most recently in Oct 2008 at the Toyota dealership. My theory is the techs filled the trans with a heavier weight fluid than is necessary and that is triggering the codes.
View 1 Replies'04 RX330 AWD 116k...Recently noticed the shifter is no longer going into drive. When placed in the "D" position (on the right hand side of the "4-D" slot), the dash indicator reads "4". I have verified the trans is only shifting as far as 4th (70mph=3000rpm w/stock tires). ECT/Snow is not turned on.
To clarify, the problem is not physical/mechanical as far as the shifter itself...the shifter will drop to the correct "D" position, but the car says, thinks, and acts like its in "4".
Feels like my transmission is slipping from 40m/hr to 65m/hr. But only when I am at a constant speed and not when i am accelerating. only happens when I am at approximately 1400rpms and while in overdrive. Does not happen in any other gear just overdrive.

That's when I learned of the common problem of a bad coil pack not allowing trans to lock out into OD. Yesterday I took the truck to a shop to have it scanned. I was hoping to find out which cylinder is the problem. No fault codes were found. Now the mechanic thinks its the tranny, and the tranny guy(who has had the truck twice) says its a coil pack. I can change it if I can figure out which one it is. Do I have anymore options left to find the bad coil pack, or am I left with changing them all.

After changing the alternator (alternator did die and drained my battery, the shop recharged the battery) now it seems be stuck in 3rd gear and does not wont to shift (it is a automatic). Fluids are good, transmission was flushed between 50-60,000 miles.

View 1 RepliesI have a 2004 f150 4x4 with a 5.4. i have been leaking some fluid for a few months now but when i check oil and transmission both fluid levels are fine. I crawled under and it looks like something is leaking near engine and trans meeting and fluid looks reddish making me think its trans. now this week I developed a whining sound when truck moves. Again I rechecked oil and trans fluid levels and are all good. i was going to check transfer case but it is way behind leak and dry.

When my driving conditions force me to cruise at the 28-30 MPH range my transmission often hunts for an upshift, like a slipping gear hunt then it hits in firm. It must be from 2nd to 3rd gear I'm thinking. It doesn't occur at all if i am accelerating through this gear or past this shift point. under normal acceleration through and past this speed or shift point it is as smooth as can be.
I often drive some flat but winding dirt roads out in a forest area near my deer camp and it seems this is where I settle into a speed of 28-30 mph for several miles at a time. This is where it happens, the transmission seems to begin to shift but seems to slip or hunt for that next gear then it hits in fairly firmly.
Truck has 83k on it....
My 06 f150 v6 auto died on the way to work last night. It said trans fault on the dash. The trans has been shifting fine no slipping no hard shifts. The trans has 113k I replaced the motor and it has 57k. Both have been working great until last night. I plugged my scanner up it had a bunch of codes so I cleared them and done a koeo test and got 10 codes.

With the key in the on position the truck was showing 27.3 psi on fuel.
Long delay bringing new travel trailer home last week. Shift cable not placed properly in retainer during assembly (there is NO way it popped out) and it was resting on exhaust manifold. Evidently towing camper made enough heat to burn through the shielding and truck trans would not move out of drive.
The good news is that I could climb under (getting too old for that stuff!) and put it into gear/park by hand. But of course I didn't know that for the first 4 hours.
My 2007 F150 XLT, 5.4L, 4X4: 3 times in the past 4 months while towing a small trailer a message comes on in the dash display "trans fault" and the OD OFF flashes on the dash. What is the fix?
View 2 RepliesI picked up my 2005 F150 4x4 last winter. It has 135k miles & a slight tranny problem.
When cruising around 45 mph - right between where it wants to be in top gear or not - if I slightly accelerate the trans BANGS between the two gears.
I mean repeatedly bangs - it is not a smooth shift where it can't decide which gear to use - it is a hard BANG where it can't decide which gear to be in.
What gives? I can usually stop it if I turn on the towing button - shutting off high gear.
My 2005 STX 4x4 was running fine until yesterday, then on my way home I lost all forward power. The odometer displayed TRANS FAULT and the O/D OFF light was blinking. Limped home.... Today I checked the fluid level and it was a little high, so I ciphoned some out. I read a lot of posts about the same problem which lead me to my local autozone to have them put a code reader on it. Unlike all of the other posts, NO codes came up.
According to the scanner, my truck is fine. I was hoping to get some kind of "P" code to target the problem, but no such luck. I checked all the fuses and they are fine. What should I do now? I don't really want to take it to the dealer, fearing that they will automatically say I need a new tranny without checking everything else first.
