View 14 RepliesSo my truck is making a kind of a clunk noise in the trans area does it between 30-50mph does it more often when cruise control is on but still does it from time to time when it's off. What it could be?
View 1 RepliesI bought a 2004 F150 XLT 4x4 122,000KM. I used to have a 1995 BMW 318TI but I built a cabin and a truck seems to go with it. I have already done some work like new plugs, oil change, tranny flush, fuel filter change and Air Filter. I noticed about 2 weeks ago going up to the cabin a rattle sound when I was going up a hill. It is coming from the right side (FRONT) and it sounds like its from the wheel. I really does it if I give it some gas and then press a bit more on the peddle and then you here like marbles in a tin can if that makes sense. I just got back from my mechanic and we took it out and it is still doing it so we jacked it up and checked everything. Their are no loose clips and back plates making noise. We did notice that a heat shield near the cat was rubbing and we adjusted it, this did not solve out problem. We were both looking at each other after an hour wondering what the hell this could be. I am going back on Wed and he is going to hook it up with some kind of machine with microphones and a headset to pinpoint the problem. It does not affect the performance of the truck but it is very annoying when I need to give it some gas to pass or go up a big hill.
View 4 RepliesThis is very weird. A strange noise occurs intermittently. It sort of sounds like a pulley slipping on a steel shaft briefly followed by a brief rattling noise and may or may not blow out fuse number 14 (A/C Pressure switch, backup lamp and daytime running lights, redundant speed control heated pcv, ABS, Reverse park aid, EC Mirror), then the brake light and the ABS light is displayed and the cruise control quits working. It does not ALWAYS blow out the fuse as I discovered yesterday.
The first time it happened (about three months ago) I was doing 75 when it happened and was unable to figure out what it was. Yesterday it happened and I new it was fuse number 14. I replaced the fuse and it happened again within 3 minutes. It may be when I turn the wheel to the left. The first time it happened I was changing lanes, yesterday when it happened I was on a ramp turning to the left. In the driveway it happened as a backed up and turned the wheel to the left. I cannot identify where the noise comes from. After the noise and the blown fuse the truck runs just fine and I can continue to drive.
I have a strange rattle that I can't isolate. It only happens when the outside temp exceeds 55 degrees. Once November hits, the noise goes away until April. From the driver's seat it sounds like it is coming from the dashboard. Others in the car have said that it sounds like it is coming from the driver's seat. The noise is intermittent and only happens when the car is moving and is vibration related. I have tried to isolate with a wireless microphone and cannot find where it is coming from.
View 2 Replies2004 Landcruiser excellent condition 77K. Exhaust manifold/heat shield type rattle, intermittant but >50%time. ONLY when in Drive and at Idle at 6000rpm. Goes away any higher rpm. NO rattle in Park or Neutral.
View 8 RepliesSo my 04 FX4 with only 55000 miles is finally starting to rattle. I change the oil more often than necessary, use Motorcraft 5-20 syn blend and a Motorcraft oil filter. The big question is...
What happens if you let it tick away and don't fix it? Beside the noise, what can happen? Will they actually break? Freeze up in the wrong spot and shove a valve into a piston?
I have an '04 F150 with 160,000 miles, and I've never had any issues until yesterday. I bought it brand new in '04. It is my daily driver, and normal service and maintenance had been maintained. It has never towed anything, and was used to haul small loads when I remodeled my house. In the last 5 years it hasn't seen any workload. Saturday, I hauled large load of sand 7 miles with no issues. Yesterday, I was leaving work, and reverse was not working. The exact symptom is, going to Park to Reverse always works. Going from N,D,2,1 to Reverse never works. I'm hoping this is an easy fix, and not tranny related.
View 2 RepliesI have a rattle in my 2004 Lariat crew cab with sunroof. The sound seemed to come from the rear seat, but I finally tracked it down to to roof of the cab. The back dome light (and interior roof) has sagged some and I guess it's the dome light or wires are rattling when driving.
View 1 Replies04 F150 4.6 ltr Has a tinny rattle during acceleration . Sounds like 2 hammerheads in a washing machine....
View 2 RepliesI have a bit of a question about my 2007 Ford F-150 w/ the 5.4 3V. I don't know how long it's been doing this, I just happened to notice it not long ago. Whenever I rev the truck (doesn't matter if it's in Park or Drive) in between 800-1,000 RPMs it makes a "rattle" type sound - like a "rat-tat-tat-tat" I guess is one way of putting it. It only does it when the engine is hot, it won't do it when it cools down some. The truck has 63,000 miles and I've always ran the recommended 5W-20 weight oil. Engine runs good, no power-loss or anything like that. I have posted a video on YouTube of the sound. If you want to skip my talking in the video to get to the sound, then skip to 1 minute and 40 seconds of the video.
2007 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.4L Triton V8 Rattling/Ticking VCT Phaser Noise?
My ashtray has been open for as long as I can remember because when I close it, it rattles. I have a Lariat with the center console. What should be done to fix ashtray rattle, pics would be useful.
View 4 RepliesOk, so I just replaced the entire timing set (phasers, chains, sprocket, tensioners ect) on my 2004 f150 5.4l about a month ago. I also extracted ALL 8 spark plugs and replaced those with the Champion 1 piece plugs. In addition, I replaced the intake manifold because I did this job when it was 20 degrees outside and I found a crack. Soooo, all that being said I put the whole truck back together and it runs like New. Until about a month later. When the engine gets hot, maybe after about a 30 minute drive or so, it has a really really rough idle until I give it a little bit of gas. Then it clears up. It has only done it 3 times since I put the engine back together. It might go 2 weeks and not do it. No codes. What I could be? EGR? MAS air? Only other thing I can think to say is if you get on it out on the highway, after about 3k rpms it seems like the power drops off quite a bit. Like the engine isn't getting enough fuel. I guess it could be just me, but it just doesnt seem right.. I guess I could try to unplug the MAS air flow sensor...
View 14 RepliesThe brake light on my 04 has come on twice the past week. The brakes are working fine, no problems. When I turn the truck off, then restart, the light goes out. Just had the front rotors changed.
View 6 RepliesOk noticed this a few times recently. On the first start up of the day, sometimes it sounds like something "rattles" in the engine before it comes tight? This only happens when I first start the truck from sitting overnight, if I run to the store, or at lunch go out, etc, it starts normally. I did have one of the pulleys replaced this past summer, it was making a whining noise so maybe the new belt they installed is loose? I know it could be any number of things.
04 5.4 with about 87k miles...
I have a 2004 F-150 5.4L V8 3v vin code 5. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic and know my way around engines. The longer I own this truck the worse the problem gets. I believe I've narrowed it down to the oil actuated timing chain tensioners. I get a really bad rattle with a shaking condition only after changing my oil. Other then that it runs perfectly. I'm guessing it's losing its prime and trying to build up oil pressure. Is there any way to hand prime those tensioners? Or should I just go ahead and replace the whole assembly?
View 5 RepliesI have a 08 F-150 4x4 King ranch with 5.4L Duel fuel motor. Last year we were backing a trailer and the whole truck started shaking. Stopped, but it in forward and no problems, tried backing again and same thing. It did back up but shook worse with more gas.
We took it to a mechanic who said without even looking at it "Sounds like a reverse clutch, common problem" So we had them rebuild the trans, a few months later it did it again once but we were 300 miles from home. Since we could still back we did what we needed to do and drove home with no problems. Dropped it back at the mechanic who said he couldn't find anything and eventually had a yelling fight with my wife. We couldn't get it to happen again either until last week it did it again and she grabbed the camera to record it.
Took the truck back with the video, he had a mechanic look at it and said the transfer case mount bolts were loose, tightened them up which did get rid of a knock that we had since the trans rebuild and said that was the problem, it was binding and causing the shaking. This weekend did the same thing again.
Now the truck is back at the shop and only 100 miles or so left on the warranty (12m/12k). So after that long story my question is if the problem really was/is the reverse clutch or if there is something else wrong that he never fixed and was just intermittent enough that we let him get away with it this long?
I have a 2004 F150 with 195,000mi. For the last several moths the truck has had a rattle on startup, some days it is barely noticable and only on cold starts, other days it is loud and occurs on every startup. The truck was most recently serviced at the Ford dealer and is filled with Motorcraft 5w-20 syn blend and Motorcraft filter Every change before was either Motorcraft syn blend or Penzoil Platinum (I have always used Motorcraft filters on it) and the noise continued after oil changes so I don't think the drain back valve is the issue. I replaced the cam phasers, timing chains, chain tensioners, and guides about 15,000 miles (2 years) ago and the vct solenoids shortly after that. Here is an audio clip of the noise (I know the truck also has an exhaust manifold leak, I plan on replacing the manifold while im working on it
Is this noise the lash adjusters or have the cam phasers failed again (they were dorman parts)? If it is the lash adjusters, can they be replaced without removing the cams? will failed adjusters be obviously damaged? Should I also replace the cam followers? do i need to replace all 24 at once or can i safely replace only damaged ones or maybe just 1 bank (noise seems to only be coming from the pass side)?
2004 super crew. It is not the seat belt. Can I unsnap the seat to get back there?
View 4 RepliesAs the title states, my brake light on the dash keeps on coming on intermittently. I can't figure it out. Fluid level is fine, and I added more just to be sure. Pads and rotors all got replaced within the last 9 months. I don't see any chafed or broken wires to the wheel/abs sensors. I don't know where else to look
Also when the light comes on the pads on the rear passenger side seem to drag a little bit. I can't feel it, but I can hear it just slightly.
I have a 2006 F-150 S/Crew and I seem to have the same intermittant odometer problem as many of the folks in that 1999-2003 group. The odometer comes and goes, flashes intermittantly and sometimes doesn't work for days.
Can it be repaired in the same fashion as those older units? The dealer is more than willing to sell me a new cluster (obviously). They say that there is "no way to possibly repair those odometer problems and we see them all the time."
