Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Power Steering Pump Started To Whine Really Loud

i have an 04 f-150 with a 5.4 motor. about 2000 miles ago the power steering pump started to whine really loud. I sucked out the power steering fluid and started it up and the fluid that back into the tank looked like it was gritty and rusty. I replaced it out a few times and no change. I then did the job of replacing the power steering pump which was about a 5 hour job.
It was quiet for about 5 miles and the new one started whining. Every week I have been sucking out the old fluid and replacing it and it still seems to be gritty. What could I do to quiet it down? the steering works perfect btw. I am looking at selling this truck and buying an 09 or newer ford and want to quiet it down before selling it. The truck has 88,000 miles on it and i am the original owner.

I own a 2007 GX470. It has suddenly developed a loud whine. We replaced the power steering fluid (which we were told was filthy) but the whine is still there. The mechanic has suggested we drive it for about 500 miles to see if the noise disappears. I'm not crazy about driving it with the loud noise but don't mind. He says the car is safe to drive.

I noticed over the last week that there was a pretty loud whine associated with turning the steering wheel. I checked the fluid level and it didn't seem low. I added a touch just to make sure. Took it into the dealership today and they called back and told me there's a bunch of fluid on the bottom splash pan. They haven't said what the culprit is yet. 46k miles on the car.

I have a lexus rx 330. Pump started making noise and low on fluid. We replaced all the belts and new pump. After installing new pump it was leaking from fill cup cap when driving also making a lot of noise on cold start. Mechanic said new pump was bad so we put in another one. Car ran fine as soon as we put it in and bleed good. Following morning again a lot of noise on cold start and noise goes away about 10 minutes but again small amount of fluid leaking from cap on fill cup. I replaced the rubber ring on cap to get a tight seal but again nothing.

My '04 4wd has a pretty loud rear end howl, it is a LS but don't think it's an LS problem, no noises or chattering when turning. Howling is loudest at 50 to 60, but some noise at all speeds. I don't mind tearing into the rear myself, but not sure if I could tell what was wrong just by looking, i suppose bad bearing might be obvious, but not sure how to diagnose gear lash tolerances. It only has 107000 mi. and is an 8.8 rear I believe.

I have a 01 santa fe 2.7 motor. I have read several threads in here regarding the famous pump whine. my pump is making a whine at idle, I have cleaned the bottle and made sure the screen has not restrictions, drained all the fluid, and have inspected the lines for leaks.
With a stethoscope have pin the noised to the pump, the noise travels in the reservoir when I race the engine the noise is more evident on the bottle. I am tempted to replace the pump, but the steering has no issues and operates fine, also no change in the whine noise when moving left to right.

My wife and I recently moved to Panama and we bought a 4 wheel drive 2007 Nissan Frontera diesel pick-up. Great little truck so far, 27 miles per/gal! However, the 5 speed manual transmission has started making a loud whine or growl under power. Down hill, gas pedal up, no noise. Clutch in, no noise. Gas pedal down, growling .Growl is related to ground speed as it stays the same when I shift gears.

Slowed down to turn a corner and the strangest, loudest, noise - a loud screaming whine that lastest like 5 seconds. Also perhaps a spin noise and a little bit of a thump like going back in gear. Went out to drive it again, and again it did it but only once. I then drove it hard, fast and slow, in 4 wheel drive, out of 4 wheel drive, stop and go and it has not done it again.

Driving home from movies tonight, I lost power steering and power brakes and the pump started growling. Looked in the reservoir and it was all foamed up. Within the last 20k mi I have flushed the system and refilled with power steering fluid. No apparent leaks at this time. And happened like someone flipped a switch. Fine one turn, nothing the next. What are the chances this is a fluid issue and not a mechanical one? Start with flushing system and adding Mercon V? Or is it likely pump is damaged?

My power steering pump was making a loud whining sound. No problem, changed the pump. Now after the truck is started I will have no power steering or brake assist, give the truck a little gas and you can hear the power steering pump "start". I have tried every way to get the air out, or is that not the problem. I even lifted the front of the truck off the ground with a forklift and with the truck off turned the wheel about six times stop to stop. Fluid level looks good and has since adding after the change.

So the truck is fully loaded and were 5 hours into the trip to Florida. At the start of the trip, there was some transmission whine that Id never heard before, but that went away about 1/2 hour in. My wife takes over so I can nap and an hour into her shift the power steering goes out, the check engine light goes on and power is way down, with the engine bucking slightly. With my assisting with steering, we manage to get it into a motel parking lot right off the highway.
This same thing happened on this same trip eight years ago in my 2001 X. That Ford dealership tried to rip me off by charging double. I had to call other Ford dealers in the area to get comparative quotes and throw them in the service managers face to get his prices back in line.

I turned the key and it started to crank and slowly started to whine down. Tried it a 2 more times and it did the same thing only with less strength and on the third try all I hear is the starter clicking. Both batteries read 12.57 on my multimeter while not cranking. Does this sound like an alternator? All my electronics seem to have plenty of power.

I'm beginning to notice a high pitched whine when I first start up my 2008 LS600hL and turn the wheel slightly (like backing out of my garage). It almost sounds like the beginning of a power steering pump problem, but I think our power steering systems on the LS are electric.
Experiencing a slight whine/growling sound when the car is still cold and the wheel is turned? Maybe the sound has been there all along and I'm just now noticing it.
I did a search on this topic and came up empty. My car is still covered under a CPO warranty, so I'm not too concerned, but was wanting to get opinions from the forum on possible causes (or if this sound is a normal part of the electric power steering we have).

Just drove 60 miles and parked the car. loud whine coming from the fuel pump area. and the exhaust smells a hell of a lot different. Smells like fuel in the exhaust. Stage 3 kinetics kit. stock exhaust. Upgraded fuel system.

I have a 2005 STX with the 4.6L, 4WD, AT.
The engine has started to make a loud whining sound recently. I replaced the belt and tensioner since it was original and had 93,000 miles on it. The sound is still there.
The sound increases with rpm but doesn't change when you turn the steering wheel.
The engine starts and runs smoothly with plenty of power.

I have a mkiv gli. With 41k miles on it. And when I turn my wheels either way it makes a loud strenuous noise that seems like my power steering cause its only noisy when I turn.

So I have a 2006 f150 a wile back the steering started going stiff when I would come off the highway. so after some forum searching, I decided to buy a new steering shaft to repace the universals that see up. then the pump started squealing when we turned befor I could install the new shaft. so I replaced the pump and didn't put the new steering shaft in yet. now when I rev the motor past 2000 RPM the pump wines like when you turn the weeks to far to one side on an old truck and it is still stiff when I come off the highway. My 2005 Accord V-6 makes a howling (actually a loud whine) when started in very cold weather (e.g., below 25 degrees). The sound goes a way after a few miles driving. It appears to come from a small "pump" looking thing at the top and on the left (facing the car) of the engine, which is attached to a pulley. My mechanic - although he did not actually hear it - says it's nothing to worry about; it's just the cold.

Sometimes I wonder why I have this car serviced....I have a 2000 Passat V6, just had the timing belt, water pump and infamous ABS control module replaced. Also had problems with the secondary air system (I think that's what it's called??) - another mechanic identified a couple of blocked areas and repaired. So now, all of the flashing lights are gone, but there is a very high pitched whine that is pronounced when I'm turning and sounds like it's coming thru the steering column? Goes away after about 20 minutes driving - should I take the car back??
