As the title states, my odometer back light works just fine, but nothing displays on it. No mileage reading, no nothing. How to fix it? Found plenty about fixing the back light, but can't find anything similar to this issue.
I've had the battery off for 30-40 minutes and the issue persists after restarting.
2004 F150 XLT SuperCab 5.4L
I have a 2006 F-150 S/Crew and I seem to have the same intermittant odometer problem as many of the folks in that 1999-2003 group. The odometer comes and goes, flashes intermittantly and sometimes doesn't work for days.
Can it be repaired in the same fashion as those older units? The dealer is more than willing to sell me a new cluster (obviously). They say that there is "no way to possibly repair those odometer problems and we see them all the time."

Odometer display quit on me. This is the co.pass and temp as well. I have also noticed that when I come to a complete stop and then take off a again, the auto lock feature activates like I had put it in park and then back to drive. Thinking I could have an electrical issue here.
I have 2005 FX4 the odometer/temp display is flashing on and off like there is a loose connection the green back drop stay lit it's the black numbers is flashing on off it doesn't mater if it's running or in key on this is what I got ?

-the odometer display flashes on and off, the warmer it is outside the less it stays on
-heater blower doesn't work when the switch is on number one position, works fine on other positions
-power mirrors don't work neither side
This is regarding a 2008 F150 - STX. The light that illuminates the odometer is out. I saw the procedure to get to it on Alldata and it looks pretty easy. Next I went to the bulb chart in the user's manual and it said, for any instrument lamp replacement, see the dealer.
I called my local dealer and he said that they were some special kind of bulb but that he was out of stock. I know they can usually get these things quickly but I figured that auto parts stores would have them. It appears I was wrong. I looked on Autozone's web p-age and they show every bulb.... except instrument panel bulbs.
Odometer light on my 07 f150 was coming on and off,read the thread here on how to change bulb. Got that done no problem but the odometer is now blank. Read the thread saying it was a common issue and to look for a bad or broken soder. My problem is i can't figure out how to get the circuit board off of the cluster after i pull off all the bulbs and screws. My local ford service dept wants to replace entire cluster at a hefty price.
View 2 RepliesMy gf has a 2007 F-150 XLT Scab 5.4 2x4 and ever since she got the truck (bought used) the odometer back light has never worked. I know it was a common problem with the previous generation trucks to have a bad solder joint to cause this. I'm assuming that with these newer trucks the back light is LED, so chances are the bulbs are fine.
View 4 RepliesMy 2005 STX 4x4 was running fine until yesterday, then on my way home I lost all forward power. The odometer displayed TRANS FAULT and the O/D OFF light was blinking. Limped home.... Today I checked the fluid level and it was a little high, so I ciphoned some out. I read a lot of posts about the same problem which lead me to my local autozone to have them put a code reader on it. Unlike all of the other posts, NO codes came up.
According to the scanner, my truck is fine. I was hoping to get some kind of "P" code to target the problem, but no such luck. I checked all the fuses and they are fine. What should I do now? I don't really want to take it to the dealer, fearing that they will automatically say I need a new tranny without checking everything else first.
I have an 06 f150 xlt 4wd 5.4. I bought the truck about two months ago and have come to realize that my 4wd is not working. The light works and you can hear the clunk but recently we got alot of rain and i was going down a georgia clay dirt road and almost got stuck in the middle of the road. i tried 4hi and 4lo but only the rear wheels would spin. I had my wife put it in 4wd while i looked under the truck and the half shafts do turn in 4wd. which doesn't make any sense to me. I also unplugged to vacuum line from the intake and capped it off to try and let the hubs engage that way but still nothing. why would the half shafts be turning but no power to the front wheels in 4wd? does that mean the iwe's are stuck engaged? Which would explain why they turn all the time. But if they are engaged, whether they are stuck or vacuum leak or whatever the reason, shouldn't the front wheels be getting power.
View 8 RepliesMy 2006 F150 was purchased by me in early 2009 with about 28,000 miles on it. It's an XLT crew cab 4X4 with the 5.4. Stock except for a leveling kit and an aftermarket head unit. It currently has about 59,000 miles and has been babied since I purchased it. About 3 years ago I started noting some issues:
A. Oil pressure dummy gauge is all over the place. Some times it will show no oil pressure. Other times it is all the way to the highest mark. Other times the needle has gone 180 degrees past where normal is and is actualy pointing straight down towards the floor.
B. Recently my alternator dummy gauge has started doing the same thing as my oil pressure gauge.
C. The backlight behind my odometer works intermittently, but mostly not at all.
D. My dome light will flicker when first turned on. It doesn't matter which door is opened or if the override switch it turned on. It takes several seconds to come on and will flicker like there is a poor connection somewhere, but stays on once its on.
E. Blower fan will occasionally stop blowing. Once the climate control switch is turned to off, then back to on it resumes working. This doesn't happen often, but does occasionally.
Fortunately, the truck has not left me stranded and I want to keep it that way. We are getting ready to sale my wife's Toyota and this will become her daily driver. I want to take care of any issues before she starts driving it. Are these all separate issues or is there one common issue which could be causing them all?
Three things happened with my Phaeton today.
First, when I pulled out of the driveway, there was an "achy" should as I turned the steering wheel. I sound like it coming from under the hood in the area of the steering mechanisms. I am hoping it just might be low power steering fluid?
Second, my engine warning light (amber) came on after going through a car wash. Everything seems to run fine, so I plan to just wait and see if it turns itself off again.
Last - and only as an irritation - I noted that my trip odometer on the front dash display won't reset when I go into the console "trip data" and press reset. Am I doing something wrong?
My digital odometer is funky! Sometimes time it works sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it works on start up than after a lil while it fades out.
View 7 RepliesIt appears the odometer backlight problem has been around for a long time, aon many models. 2007 f150 Supercrew? Just had the engine replaced under warrenty at 35600 miles. Just as soon as I get 50 miles out of warranty the the odometer light goes out.

I was wondering if I can just get a new Odometer or if I should take it to someone to fix or is thus something I can do. I work on Rv all day so I do understand most but electrical is my weak link...
View 14 RepliesI parked my truck yesterday and know the odometer display was working. Started truck up this morning and no display. My brake light (idiot light in dash) was slightly illuminated as well. The truck ran fine and when I shut it off and started it back up again, the odometer was still out but the brake light was off. Any thoughts? I saw a you tube video showing a cold solder joint on the back of the dash motherboard. I hate to pull that all apart if there could be something else that is simple.
View 7 RepliesI already searched and seemed to only find info about, no backlight but lcd readout was still working. My backlight reacts to the lights being turned off and on; so I know it works but just no numbers. I noticed it on the way to work after the truck had been sitting in the hot sun for a while but When I got off work after dark around 11:00pm it worked all the way on the drive home, but I went to grab a bite and it no longer worked. I figure it could have something to do with sitting in the heat? It's the stx cluster with only the speedo and no tac if that makes a difference. I really don't want to have to drop cash on a new cluster.

View 5 RepliesThey problem I have is when I am driving and the headlights are on my odometer and radio display is extremely dim. When this first happened I thought the displays were completely off until it got darker outside. It only happens when it is dark enough for the auto headlight feature to function.
When it is bright outside I can turn the between off, headlights on and auto and the displays are still bright. When it darkens outside the only way I can have the displays lit up to where I can read them is to turn my lights to off.
I have tried adjusting the dash dimmer switch, checked fuses and looked over the wiring but cannot find the fault.
It is a 2011 6.7L F250.
My 2004 with 5.4L Lariat is struggling to keep me cool. The AC works fine on mild days but when it gets into the upper 80s it works for about 10 mins then goes warm. If I shut down the AC for about 5-10 mins. it begins cooling again.
I first tried a retail charging kit with no improvement. Then I had the system drained and refilled with die to look for leaks, but neither had any immediate impact. So it is not a leak, but something else failing.
What are the next best troubleshooting steps for an AC system?
