What's up with the little nub hanging off the tailgate?

View 5 RepliesDo the later model F150 retractable step tailgates would fit a 2004 F150 Fx4 Bed, or has the rear part of the bed been changed in design, so as to make this not possible (by progression, not necessarily intention).
View 1 RepliesI have a 2004 F150 Fx4 and i just locked the tailgate for the first time and now i cannot unlock it. I turned it clockwise to lock it and I am trying to turn it counter clockwise to unlock it and it seems like its putting too much tension on the key.... Am I doing something wrong?
View 7 RepliesJust bought a 2006 f150, the tailgate hinge seems to be rusted to the cup(drivers side). Any tips for repairing/ getting it freed up?
View 5 RepliesSo I'm having a tailgate issue. When I open my tailgate, sometimes the internal spring wants to keep it up, rather then letting it open down. It also makes an odd popping noise during operation from time to time......I don't see or feel anything broke in it.
View 7 RepliesWell heck, the PO of the truck I just bought has lost the spare key to the ignition, and the key that opens the tailgate and unlocks the spare tire. First question, is the key to the tailgate and spare tire the same key or are they different?
Second question, is there any simple way to have new keys cut for these things?
I have a 2006 F-15 XLT with a bed cover, tailgate cover and separate tailgate cap. The cap has cheap plastic clips that went into the tailgate but have broken off...this is a problem as I have a tonneau cover that is a tight fit. Every time I close the tailgate with the cover on, I have to jam the cap down and hope it is far enough by the time the tailgate closes.
2 Questions:
1) Where can I buy a reasonable replacement?
2) Is there a good solution to just repair? I tried JB Weld, but that did not seem to hold (surprisingly)
Took truck out for a ride and stopped for gas. I smelled Brakes and upon inspection found the left rear brake pads were not releasing. Any take on what could be holding it? 2008 F-250.
View 10 RepliesMy ford escape tailgate switch stopped working, the glass worked fine and opened with the switch. I ruled out the fuse as both I believe work off the same fuse. I removed the back panel to access the mechanism and found that, I could get the tailgate to work if I disconnected the wire from the glass tailgate switch and as the wire connector (shown In picture) was reinserted it would energize the tailgate switch and I am able to open the tailgate. What the actual problem is. I initially thought that it could be the tailgate switch itself but having seen what is happening I really am at a loss to what is the problem....
View 1 RepliesI have a 2008 F250 that the tailgate has always been real easy to open and close until the other day I could not get it to latch so i slammed it and it did latch and it worked a few days but now it won't latch at all. I can open and close the latch with the tailgate down but nothing I do will make it latch in place. I've tried spraying with PB blaster it didn't work. Not sure if its out of adjustment or what.
View 2 RepliesOdd thing happened. All of a sudden the factory emblem on my 2008 tailgate totally lost all of its blue and is now pure chrome. Happened just like that.
Anyway, is it screwed on and do I need to pull the panel on the tailgate to remove it? Here's the tailgate on my truck for reference.
I tried to take my tailgate off my 08 F-450 today.
Did it the same as every tailgate Ive taken off in the last 20 years...........it wouldn't come.
Is there a trick to it?
I was driving yesterday and noticed the car making odd sounds. Turned it off and on again and noises completely stopped. Got up this morning and noticed something hanging from the bottom of my SUV near the front of the car. What it is?
View 2 RepliesI just got a 2011 LX 570. The power rear door/tailgate opens just fine when pressing the button inside the car, or on the key fob. And closing it works fine as well from there as well as from the button on the door. However, when I press the larger "unlock" button on the tailgate itself, it does not open by itself. I have to manually open it.
I've read in a couple of places that this is a setting that the dealer must changed...IE to make that large unlock button also open the tailgate by itself instead of having to manually open it.
I just had the bed and tailgate on my 2004 replaced with a 2015. The body shop took my old lock cylinder out to put in the new tailgate. The old tailgate is only a year old and I wanted to sell it. The issue is that the latch will not open the tailgate. I can manually unlatch it by pulling the rods. Does the lock cylinder not being installed somehow affect this and need to be installed for it to function properly or do the rods simply need to be adjusted?
View 4 RepliesWhen I open my tailgate with the power opener, it rises almost to the top and then starts beeping and closes.
View 7 RepliesNot really sure if the V-10 is supposed to be this way or not. I've had quite a few of the 4.6 and 5.4, both the 2v and 3v variant. Never had them do it.
Basically, my V-10 doesn't idle down easily. I can do a neutral rev and it will hang out from 1,000 to 1,500 rpm for maybe 2-3 seconds, then drop to normal idle revs.
While in gear and slowing to a stop, it feels like the motor is fighting the brakes and I have to press harder to stop. It also comes off the transmission when going 35-40 mph and letting off the gas. Causes a weird lurch if I have to get back on the gas.
Not dangerous or anything of that sort, but very very annoying. And I feel it's costing me some MPG's since I drive 99% city and have lots of stops. Probably 1-2 MPG at max. Back in my 2v Mustang days I remember some of the guys were modifying the 4.6 2v IAC because of similar complaints. I'm trying to dig up that mod, but it's been a few years.
I plan on cleaning the IAC this week when I get the time
I purchased a 1990 Ranger 4x4 with a v6 from auction. Took it to local shop to have them check it for me. Found out that it has a 3.0 in it and mechanic believes it is from a taurus. Truck actually runs extremely well. Has a few codes due to the ECM is for an automatic trans. Now the problem. I was on the highway-in 5th gear. Terrible noise the nothing. When I got it pulled over. The drive shaft was hanging from the rear end. It had been twisted like a straw. The transmission side had the yoke only, and the tail housing was cracked. It rolls and the drive shaft at the rear end turns. I figured the trans locked up. I don't know what trans to look for---is a 90 2.9 5 speed the same on a 3.0 ??
View 6 RepliesI've got a 97 f150 with 4.6l and my factory tach needle hangs up. Sometimes doesn't move at all and I can tap on the tach and it will work ok. Then I check it and it is stuck in the 2000 to 3000 rpm range. Can I take it apart and clean it or won't .....
View 2 RepliesYesterday, I saw a hose, ~1/2 ID hanging down from under the engine on the drivers side. Tried moving it around to see where it would reach to so I could find where it disconnected from to no avail. The end that's still connected appears to be going toward the firewall, but without living the truck I can't see where exactly it's going to. It appeared dry until I lifted and then a small amount reddish fluid dripped out. Fluid levels that I could check appeared normal. The truck seems to be running fine, engine smooth, no trans slipping, breaks normally. 2007 explorer limited 4x4 v8... What this hose might be?
View 3 RepliesSo I bought this truck a year ago and the guy had his fog lights re wired to another switch under the dash and had a brake controller wired in (that's what I think it's called) the fog lights worked for a month then just stopped working there's a rats nest of wires under the hood for the fog lights too. The brake controller never worked.
My main question is what are the wires that are hanging down under my dash that look like someone snipped ....there's a random green wire attached to one and just hanging
