I guess not ALL of the time, but pretty often when I turn off my truck and remove the key from the ignition, I get the "key is in the ignition" chime, and I'm not allowed to lock my truck.
View 2 RepliesThis started today, when I turn off the ignition and remove the key the radio stays on and the steering column does not lock. The guy at the dealership suggested spraying wd 40 into the ignition. No go.

So I turned on my truck today and the needles acted as if they were possesed. The went under the "starting points" and vibrated there for about 5 seconds or so... Very strange. I also have been getting sluggish power from the truck. Mainly between 2000 and 3000 rpms.. Sound like a diesel at times.
What happened is I went to get in the truck I opened the door and the gauges and blower motor came on by itself like the ignition is in the on position. I put the key in the ignition and the truck didn't do anything. No crank or anything and I did notice the anti theft light blinking really fast. I unplugged the battery and plugged it back up then the truck started but I went to shut it off and pulled the key out the ignition and truck stayed running. But also the blower in the truck and the gauges are still staying on. People keep saying it's my key but why would the stuff cut on by itself inside the truck when I just opened the door?
View 9 RepliesI HAVE A 2005 f-150 LARIET 5.4 lt. I have been having a problem with my battery being drained. My stereo has been staying on once the truck has been turned off. It has also been coming on when the truck is parked all by itself and draining the battery. Sometimes when i am driving in the truck and turn the stereo on it wont come on, ten minutes down the road the stereo will all of a sudden come on. I have tried removing the relay for the stereo, no difference. I have also removed all fuses for the stereo and entertainment system, yet the draining of the battery is still occurring. What the problem could be?
View 6 RepliesMy sons 98 F150 4x4. First off he had a head light go out and replaced the bulb. Then a day or so later his tail lights would not go out after he turned the truck off. I had him to replace the pressure switch(I think that's what it is called ) anyways, that didn't work. So now he takes out the fuse every time he turns off the truck, just so the lights will go out. But, when he puts the brake fuse back in, the brakes work fine, but his windows will not roll down. I am totally confused with what is going on.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to get friend's 04 F150 4x4 started. I think it might be the ignition switch. Here's what I've done. Turn the Key and nothing happens. Not even a clicking sound from the battery.
-verified the battery had a good charge and that terminals were clean, connections were tight.
-checked the fuses in the passenger side kick panel, none were blown
-Determined there was power to the primary Pos wire going to the starter , but no power being sent to the smaller wire that goes to solenoid at the starter.
-Hooked a jumper wire to the starter solenoid and engine did crank (so starter is good and battery is making good connection)
This is why I'm thinking its the ignition switch.
1) Where is the ignition switch located?
2)How can I test the ignition switch?
3)Could it be the "cylinder lock and keys" that is faulty?
My ignition is stuck in the on position. with the key removed the ignition is still on. the door alarm continues to ding like the key is in, and all the accessories stay on.

2000 Ford Excursion - ac keeps running after the car is turned off and the key is removed. Air is actually coming out the vents!!! My wife can turn the ac off with the console switch. Nothing else is running
View 3 RepliesHow do I disable the chime (2008 F150) that sounds when the key is in the ignition and the door is open? I'd like to keep the chime that sounds when the lights are left on and the door is open. Is it possible to accomplish both objectives?
And, on the off chance that someone from Ford ever looks at these forums: It would sure be nice if you designed the audible warnings with either a timer in the circuit (so it would sound for a few seconds and then stop); or, provide a cancel button for the chime (as is common in commercial and military aircraft).
Recently the key chime will not stop when I remove the ignition key. It doesn't do it all the time but is getting more frequent. Usually I can reinsert the key and remove it once or twice and it will stop . How to remedy this issue? Is there something inside the ignition that can be repaired or am I looking at replacing the entire thing?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2004 ford Escape and the radio won't turn off when the cars ignition is turned off. I have checked the interior lights and the windows and they turn off, so I'm assuming that the relay isn't the problem. I have asked a ford mechanic what he might think it would be and he said it could be the radio, but I don't think it is.
View 10 RepliesSometimes when I take the key out of the ignition, the wipers move up slightly. I notice the passenger's blade most as it parks a bit higher than the driver's blade, so when they move up the right one is more obvious. They don't move a full cycle, just up about an inch and stop.
View 16 RepliesI have a 2005 Toyota Camry LE. After changing the battery I now get an 12 beep sequence a few seconds after removing the key. The car is a base model and I do not have keyless ignition. It has two tones, and the sequence is high-low-high-low high-low-high-low high-low-high-low. I thought this was something reset after the battery change, but I can't find anything about it in the owners manual. I want to turn this off.
View 2 RepliesI have a 1994 4 cyl Toyota Camry LE. For the last couple of years, when I parked the car after driving it and removed the key from the ignition, the air conditioning would continue to operate normally and blow cold air through the vents, and all of the other electrics would all operate for about 5 seconds, then shut down normally. Again, this was after driving the car, engine off, with the key removed and the ignition switch in the proper "off" position. I didn't think much of it at the time.
Recently, the problem has advanced to something worse. Now, when I turn off and remove the key, all electrical components remain on indefinitely (ie radio, air conditioning, wipers work, etc... )
I can physically power down each of the individual components using it's respective switch, but there is still accessory power on the vehicle. Basically, with the key removed, the vehicle thinks it is in accessory mode. All the dash lights are illuminated, like right before you start the vehicle. The only way to completely remove all electrical from the vehicle is to physically disconnect the battery.
I am happy owner of a 740 1987 4 door sedan. How to solve the problem: the engine do not stop when ignition key is removed.
View 3 Replies2000 PASSAT 1.8t. As u pull out the key out of the ignition key chamber, u should here a click sound. That I believe signals the car that the key has been pulled out of the ignition key chamber. Well I don't hear the click sound anymore when the key is pulled out of the ignition key chamber and as a result, the car thinks the key is still is the ignition chamber, alarm does not work, radio stays on after key is out, I have to manually lock and unlock car. I think the key chamber has a pin that did not set right when I pulled the key out. I think some thing is stuck . Tired spraying WD40 into the key chamber with no results.
View 2 RepliesAbout 6 weeks ago my 2004 4.6 scab had a glitch in that when you got going the seat belt warning chimes came on, to clear it stop at the next junction turn off re start and away you go. Now today its moved a step further on, the airbag not working light flashes and then stops on, but no seat belt chimes?
View 2 RepliesWell I am working on the van today. 2000 Windstar. Recently (6 months?) the chime that is supposed to come on if you have the key in the ignition but off and open the door does not work. This has contributed to the keys being locked in the van 1 time so far.
So today I am working on something else and low an behold I notice something. If I put the steering wheel in the lowest tilt position then the chime comes on if the key is in the ignition or even if it is not in the ignition. If I tilt the wheel back up to normal driving position then it is back to no chime at all.
So I guess there is something wrong with whatever switch detects the key in the ignition. Problem is I don't know where this switch is at.
I have a dead car. My phaeton has been playing up as when you turn the key it did not always turnover its now been stood for a while and now the ignition won't come on when the key is turned. both the batteries are full and the key are recognized the only thing to come on is the info display center above the gear lever i have tried a new ignition switch and still nothing, any clues my car is 2004 v10 auto one last thing is there a way to unlock the gear lever as this not working as well...
View 2 RepliesMy 2000 F 250 Super Duty 7.3L Diesel chimes 5 times, 5 times in a row when the engine is turned on and then every 30 minutes thereafter. What is causing this? It sounds like the seat belt alarm but they are all connected. Ehat is causing the continual chiming?
