Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Engine Will Just Die When Turning?
Jun 7, 2017
Not sure why this happens but if I do a tight turn like a U turn the engine will just die ? Has happened quite often and I am not sure why this would happen?

View 13 RepliesI have a shudder that happens when turning right at a grade of about 10% while accelerating, and only on that condition. While making a routine drive somewhere, there's a turn with that one condition. Every time it shudders. It doesn't bother me because it happens so rarely...

I'm going to be up in the woods with my seat-belt off and don't want it driving me nuts...
Recently when I leave my driveway which only has a slight grade to it my truck makes a clunking sound when I hit the gutter and while turning slightly. Also my front drive line from transfer case to front axle has some play in it. I can rotate the front drive line about 3/4" to an 1" while parked in the driveway. Changing u joints. I figured this would be a good starting point. 2005 XLT 4x4 5.4L F150.
View 8 Replies07 f150 4x4 shudders when starting from a stop going around corners. I was thinking of changing the diff. fluid. Is this a good start?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2004 F-150 STX 2WD with a 2.5" leveling kit on it. I recently have noticed a rubbing sound that can be felt in the steering wheel and gas pedal the instant you turn right. I just replaced both hub assemblies and I just really don't know what it could be. It doesn't happen when you turn left or go straight and there should be no reason as to why my tires rub, because they haven't before. I got my truck aligned and they checked my joints and everything and said that it was fine....
View 13 RepliesI have an 2006 Super Cab that has 72,000 miles on it. Stock everything except for Magnaflow exhaust and Hankook Dyna Pro tires. Last month I noticed some weird "hang" ups with the steering when turning and it just seemed to be a bump or something while turning. I was gone on vacation last week and started the truck after a week of sitting and the steering acted like it was binding or hesitating. It almost felt like a tire was down, got out and check pressures, everything was good (high if anything and got it to the right pressures).
After driving it got no better potentially worse. I start a turn and it is fine but at a certain degree it starts to bind and seems like the power steering is not there. It does not return to normal position easily either. I have checked the fluid and it is fine, the belt is normal (and original) with no tears, or rips in it. Not sure where to start, but have a couple thoughts of power steering pump going or front end has issues? Best description of the problem is that it is a binding feel and happens both left or right turns. Have to force it like the power steering is out.
Strange noise from what sounds like the suspension when I accelerate and then when I turn also. Truck was in Hawaii so that might have something to do with it. How do I get these noises to stop?
View 1 RepliesHear a small pop in the cab when I am turning left pulled left wheel everything looks fine. Ball mount maybe, I don't want to tear into it at this point.

I had my tranny rebuilt under warranty at about 70K and I'm now at 167K. When it was rebuilt (by Ford) it still had a slip feel when I picked it up. Rode the mechanic around the yard and he felt it. Dead stop and take off while turning. Like from a stop sign. He took it back and found a sensor/module/something that was the culprit. Seems I remember they found it with a computer? Is there a computer/reader that will diagnose a tranny?
First I will start off by stating that my truck is a 2005 Ford F150 2WD Regular Cab 6.5 Bed, with the V6.
My problem is, when making a left turn at low speeds, I have a grinding noise that corrects itself upon straightening out the truck. This seems to happen on turns in the parking lots etc. It almost sounds like the tires are rubbing but the tires are the same BFG's that have been on the truck for 40,000 miles and have never rubbed. I am thinking it might be the power steering pump but am unsure. I do not have access to a lift right now but I have done the shake test on all of the suspension components and nothing seems out of place or loose.
It feels like I am having a front bearing issue, when turning the steering wheel to the right I feel a slight vibration in the steering, need to know which one is going out,??? I have already replaced the passenger side twice It just seems to not tighten completely as I can still move the tire slightly while up on a jack...
View 12 RepliesI've looked at several threads but no one describes my exact problem. The issue started suddenly. When I am in 4WD and turn (does not have to be sharp) there is a dragging and rubbing noise. It drags hard enough that it will stop the truck.
Sounds like the brakes engaging and rubbing. I can not see any foreign material wrapped up anywhere. The 4WD appears to be engaging properly and the IWE appear to be working. I can "stomp on it" in a straight line and throw mud with no crazy noises and get a rooster tail from the front end.
I've got about 15000 on new brakes and rotors. Ceramic pads and lifetime rotors all the way around.
I picked up a 2004 F150 a few weeks ago. It has the limited slip 3.73 rear end. During acceleration on turning, I'm feeling quite a bit of chatter out of the rear end. I've read the TSB on it, and I'm wondering how much it'll cost to get the clutchpacks replaced in the rear differential.
View 14 Replies'05 F150 5.4 Sounds like a whining noise from the front end when turning to the right or going straight. Goes away on left turns. Thought it was tire whine but put originals back on and got same thing. 13.5x35 verses 275 Truck has a Fabtech 6" lift. Right CV axle seems tight, rotor assembly replace 2k miles ago. Any other option before going into front diff?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2004 2WD supercab. And am hearing a 'clunking' sound when I turn almost full-lock. Below is a summary of what I have experienced so far:
- My truck used to be lowered 2" (below stock) at the front since new. Last month I lifted it (front and rear) and it now sits 2" above stock on new rancho shocks.
- I installed a camber kit and had the front aligned (toe and camber) after the above suspension work.
- The truck drove beautifully for two weeks until one day a 'clunking' sound was heard from the front-left every time I turned left. The alignment also changed as I had to now hold the steering very slightly to the left to drive straight.
- The alignment shop re-did the toe tracking (the camber did not change) and the truck drove great for about a day. Now I can hear the same clunking sound when I turn right and the tracking is again screwed up meaning I need to hold the steering very slightly to the right to drive straight.
What parts are playing up and what may need replacing?
This spring I installed a Ford OEM limited slip unit in my 05 F 150. Recently I notice a brief, intermittent shudder when turning right or left from a stop sign. Does not do it all the time. I don't notice this any other time. The Valvoline synthetic oil I used said the Ford additive was not needed. Is this the "nature of the beast", should I be concerned, should I put the additive in anyway?
View 1 RepliesI have an 08 F-150 5.4. When sitting still or moving, and turning the steering wheel to the right and only the right past center, there is a popping type noise somewhat like a screw driver down a washboard (for those who'll know what that is). I replaced the ball joints because I saw a slight amount of play, but the noise is still there.

When accelerating and turning from a stop (like making a left hand turn), the rear end kind of stutters and then hops/bumps and goes smooth. One wheel turning faster than the other? Researching this site it sounds like the bad clutch packs TSB.
Question: How long can I drive with this problem before I mess something else up seriously on the truck?
I have a 2004 F-150 Super Crew Lariat which I bought new and I just turned 300,000 miles. The truck has been very well maintained and is in great shape. It is hands-down the best vehicle I have ever owned and I have owned plenty. I drive mostly highway miles and lately I have notice a slight roughness or vibration when driving straight or turning right. If I turn left of center it drives as smooth as the day I bought it. The dealer can't figure it out, or they don't have the experienced personnel and/or they don't care to figure it out because of the high miles. They checked the power steering pump, which checked out fine and that was as far as it went.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2004 F150 SCrew 4x4 with the 4.6 (260K)... My steering wheel occasionally 'clicks' when turning - It sounds and feels like a bearing is bad in the steering column.
When it happens, it feels like one in the bearing is binding- the steering wheel slightly binds, then there's a 'pop' like the ball snapped back into place. This only happens occasionally. Sometimes it will pop with every revolution of the steering wheel, other times not at all.
Originally, I thought it was a U-joint, but it seems like the noise is coming from the bottom of the column...
