I have a 2004 xlt xtracab F150 and for the last week my drivers side brake has been dragging and the first time it happened it got REAL HOT and after I let it cool down it did release and then 2 days later it did it again but with a one mile slow drive to work did not get that hot. I am assuming that I will have to replace the caliper but is there anything else I may have to change?

View 2 RepliesI replaced my front axle pads but the driver's side brakes seem to be dragging on the rotor making a very loud squealing noise when im driving. When I parked it in my driveway it was really hot and smoking. It doesn't happen to the passenger side. I pushed back the Pistons easily to get the brake pads in there so that wasn't a problem. But I must admit I changed them when my brakes were grinding.
View 13 Replies2011 f250 6.2. put it in the shop to have the rotors turned, and front brakes while they were under there. Now it pulls to the right whenever you apply the brakes. Can smell brakes on the left front after a short drive time. Replaced that caliper and it's still doing the same thing. I'm stumped at this point.
View 9 RepliesWent and got new tires on the supercrew. Went going through parking lots or simply driving i hear a loud squeal like brake pad squeal. I put brand new wagner ceramics on the truck. Also if i turn to the left the driver side rear sounds like brakes are dragging against the rotor. Whats goin on with this. The squeal will happen between 10 mph to 20 mph and the grinding noise will happen if I am cruising or turning to the left. It goes away when i apply the brakes.

So this started after some High water encounters around my area. All freshwater. Went to the store and then i notice the truck pulling Left and got home and checked brake temps and the driver front and rear were over 400*F passenger side was 150* or less. No trailer no load in the bed. I decided to clean everything. Pads are worn but still have life.
Rotors showed some signs of where the pad is dragging Not bad though just a small area close to the top hat. I cleaned pads, carriage, and clips and reinstalled everything with some anti seize on the edges of the pads where the clips are and at the same spots on the carriage.
Thought it was ok but the after more water and a day or two sitting the same thing happened again. It is only the drivers side and it's both front and rear. I am stumped on this one. Two calipers going bad at once? I need to tow a boat on Monday So I have got to fix this.
The last two days after driving home i noticed a smell upon exiting the truck. today i figured out what it was, the left front wheel was smoking. i.e. i believe the brake is dragging. the weird thing is going to work no issue, coming home issue. big difference is yesterday coming home was about 90, today 95. in the morning yesterday it was 60 today 74.
Is it possible the hot temp is causing some kind of an issue? it just started getting hot here and this had never happened before.
Truck is an 05 4X4 Lariat SuperCab with 70K. did brakes ( rotors with angled coolng fins up front ) and pads at around 40K. i just rotated teh tires about 1500 mile ago and there was plenty of pad, inner and outer.
I've looked at several threads but no one describes my exact problem. The issue started suddenly. When I am in 4WD and turn (does not have to be sharp) there is a dragging and rubbing noise. It drags hard enough that it will stop the truck.
Sounds like the brakes engaging and rubbing. I can not see any foreign material wrapped up anywhere. The 4WD appears to be engaging properly and the IWE appear to be working. I can "stomp on it" in a straight line and throw mud with no crazy noises and get a rooster tail from the front end.
I've got about 15000 on new brakes and rotors. Ceramic pads and lifetime rotors all the way around.
2004 Prius. When the brakes are applied, the passenger side brake light (LEDs) is dim compared to the driver side. Are the LEDs just dying a slow death? I always thought LEDs either work or don't.
View 3 RepliesI recently bought a 06 F150 Lariat scab 4x2 with a 5.4L. I am having a problem with the driver side head light. It comes on but not all the way on (shines but VERY dim). The low beam works correctly sporadically. I haven't done any trouble shooting yet because I haven't had a day off. I did replace the bulbs today thinking I had a loose filament maybe. Don't usually do shotgun maintenance but wanted to put xenon's in anyway.
View 2 RepliesMy '04 driver window would squeal when going up or down....dealer replaced entire window track/molding around door window opening. Fixed the squeal, but the new rubber molding looked like crap from wrinkle, stretching, etc.
Now, to today. My '07 is now doing the same squeal on both sides! I do not want 'new' trim/tracks installed because I'm convinced they can't do it like 'factory'. It's worse when it hot and sunny out...vs...rainy or dew.
My next step is to remove my door panels and 'q-tip' some clear silicone into the tracks on the window edges...as I believe the problem is simply 'dry rubber' which is rubbing the window edges. Rain or high humidity offers just enough 'lube' to prevent all but the slightest squeaks.
Looking for recommendations for a well fitting seat cover for this series of trucks? My driver's side is tearing (12 years of people dragging their rear ends across it will do that) and the foam cushion is starting to lose small pieces. I try to stand on the running board when getting in/out to minimize wear on the seat, but I'm just delaying the inevitable, not preventing it. I bought a set at Autozone, but it's going back because it doesn't fit properly and that makes it look, well, kind of tacky.
I've tried a few local scrap yards, but nobody has a matching seat in my interior color that isn't already wearing out. Autozone or any other retailer just carry universal fit covers, which don't fit well enough to look appealing. My only other option is to have it re-upholstered, but I have a feeling that might be on the spendy side.
I was told it is my sway bar end link? My friend says it is probably my sway bar end links, not positive yet though! I just picked up my car Friday, so I'm new to the Lexus world, always wanted one of these cars.

View 14 RepliesI have an 07 f150 base model truck, manual 4x4 no push button. It seems something is binding in the hub once in awhile. I am driving down the road and all of a sudden i hear a loud squealing from the front drivers side. I slow down and then something seems to engage when I am almost stopped. I did a little research and have come up with the actuator might be bad. I just don't wanna throw parts at it that it don't need. Here's a lil more info. Last winter I put it in 4 wheel drive and the passenger side was making the same noise with the 4x4 not working when I hit the gas. I am thinking actuators need replacing on both sides.
View 5 RepliesOK for the past few weeks I have been notice water on my floor boards on the DRIVER's SIDE. Now I just did some cab lights and thought ok maybe that's it. About a week ago while it was raining out I dropped the headliner and it was dry as a bone. So I eliminated that as a possibility.
Then I thought well maybe its my 3rd light and the water wasn't showing up until there. So that's been replaced and sealed tight. Now it has been cool here and has not rained in about a week now so everything should of dried out by now.
I left the floor mat out all of yesterday and last night and came out this morning to a dry floor area. I put the mat back in and drove the 15 minutes to my office and pulled the mat back out and the floor was wet again. I have not run my heat or A/C in 4-5 days and have not had any weather other then sun since last Saturday. The water shows up on the back of the floor mat more as like a heavy condensation then anything else. So my question is where is this water coming from?
Prius 2004 with 86K miles. My brake led light on the driver side stopped working completely the other day. For some time now (6 months) i knew the top led of the brake light was not working, but yesterday I discovered that the whole led is failing. tail and parking light on the same assembly are working fine. I pulled off the plastic door inside the trunk and I checked connections for faulty ones but everything was tight in its place. Is there anything else I can do before preparing to go to the "butcher" dealer?
View 3 RepliesI have a clicking sound on the driver side front tire. It only makes the noise when I am in motion and have the wheel turned. It does it reverse and forward. The CV axle is not turning, and it does it with 4x4 engaged and the cv axle turning. I had the front end apart not to long ago replacing the IWE Integrated wheel hub, and the bearing isn't to terrible old, and its a timken.
It didn't wobble when the wheel was up in the air, and seemed solid. All the other front end pieces have also been replaced. I also hear a rubbing noise when I am driving on that side. For awhile before I replaced my IWE Hub I thought it was the cv axle just turning ( I had the lined unplugged so it was engaged to prevent damage), well after fixing the IWE Hub it still makes the sound and the cv axle is not turning as it was before.
Wondering if the bearing is maybe on its way out? One thing I did notice is tie rod end I just replaced along with all my new front end parts (upper control arms, and lower ball joints) the boot is severed completely all the way around. However the tie rod appeared to be in good shape, just the boot has been cut or split some how. Which I plan to fix, but I don't see how that would cause a clicking sound. I have inspected to make sure no lines or vac hoses are rubbing, and they are not.
I have a 2004 FX4 and have a very annoying rattle up in the driver's side dash area near the windshield. This happens every time it gets to be winter. The odd thing is, that it will sometimes go away but when I hit an uneven surface such as a railroad crossing, I hear a loud "pop" near that area. Then it will rattle non stop. I don't know if it is the wiper cowling area or what? IMO Ford's design of that area is crap.

View 9 RepliesI just replaced my drivers side wheel bearing that was squealing pretty bad. After replacing it I now have the same noise only consistent where before it was only when I turned the wheel to the right. I noticed the teeth in the cv shaft where a little warn down when I changed the hub. Now also along with that noise I'm getting a clunking sound. Should I just change the cv shaft or is there something else I need to be looking at?
