Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Backup Sensor Alarm Stays Off
Sep 7, 2009
I have the backup sensor system, and occasionally turn it off with the dash switch when backing up a boat trailer. Never had to manually turn it back ON, because it is supposed to default to the ON position during startup.
Twice this week, after starting the vehicle, the OFF light stayed on the next day, and the system did not default to the ON position. (nearly backed the truck through the garage wall cause the damned thing didnt beep when it was supposed to!)
Works fine today, so problem seems intermittent...

I bought the truck in 2005 but now that my kids are driving it I need to add a rear camera or sensors.

Last night I backed my truck up to allow another family member to leave, and the back-up sensor alarm started beeping, like it does when the tail-gate is down and backing up.
The truck had not been driven on Christmas day, but it had rained and snowed lightly (dusting), then the temp dropped to 20 degrees.
Can a light dusting/ice cause the sensor to react the same as a close object. I think it does, just trying to confirm.

My back up alarm hasn't been working all the time. I checked for the clicking sound when it wasn't working & could hear the clicking. The light is on all the time when its acting up. Is there a control box somewhere?

The backup alarm sounds when I put the truck in reverse when there is nothing behind me. I found posts about people not getting any sound at all but none like mine. I'm guessing I have at least bad sensor that 'thinks' there's something in the way when there isn't.

I have a 2002 f350 that I have changed relays, control unit, checked fuses with no change. The hazards work normally. I'm ready to drive it off a cliff. I was told that it could be a bad ground. But no one can tell me where the ground may be. I have looked at the wire run from back to front with no problems found.

No tail, turn, backup, flasher, license plate - NOTHING. i checked fuses - cleaned both connectors under the truck by drivers door, cleaned connectors by the spare tire (2) one large one and one small round, the cleaned ground lug on top of spare tire bracket, all bulbs are new. cleaned with LPS contact cleaner, they were new and shiny and reinstalled. NOW - turn is very weak and when i push on brake they go off and the front blinkers blink twice as fast? I a aircraft technician and know my way with an ohm meter but totally stumped.

How to turn off the constant annoying back-up alarm in a Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) three? I asked the dealer and they told me it cannot be done...no codes yet. I remember doing a series of settings in a Gen II Prius that would turn off the backup alarm and seatbelt chime.

I'm having an issue with my backup sensors when its cold (40 and below). The issue is, they don't work. When I put it in reverse the sensor light on the dash comes on signifying they're off. I push the button to try to turn them back on and it stays on with no change. Once the outside temp heats up they start operating as normal. How to fix this?

Ok, so it seems I have 3 bad backup sensors on the 2002 Ex. Background information for those considering a repair:
I put the Ex in reverse, key in run and can hear "fast ticking" from only one sensor. Sensor removal is easy (at lease on the two outside sensors). Two tabs on the black housing in the bumper hold the cylindrical sensor in place. Release the two tabs and work the sensor out. I haven't tried to remove the bad inside sensor yet as there is a lot less room to work there.
Once removed, a single tab on the wiring harness connector holds the sensor in place.
Here is the problem I have. I can't get the sensor to LOCK back into the connector. I have backed the connector against the bumper and pushed on the sensor with all my strength and I cannot get it to lock back into the single tab on the connector.
Is there a trick I am missing? I am ready to try vice grips but I fear I will damage the connector.

I have a 2007 F-150 FX2 and as of 8-10 months ago I started having the security alarm go off for no reason. I thought maybe I sat on the fob or something stupid but it is getting to be more often. The truck sat at the dealership for 2 days last week and nothing. They decided after lightly bumping the grille and it went off the sensitivity was too low so adjusted that up to a reasonable bump required. Well it went off last night at 1:30 AM, so I don't know what to do now. The service writer did say he had seen this and it was always a door sensor but having 4 doors which one??

Truck is a 2008 F150 5.4 4x4. I changed the spark plugs the other night for the second time. Everything went smoothly. Got the truck put back together and cranked it up afterwards to let it run. Truck ran great, but as the engine temp got up around 150 degrees, I started hearing a very loud ringing sound. I shut off the engine, double checked all connections, removed the belt to rule out accessory drive noise. No luck. The noise stays constant regardless of engine RPM, so I decided to drive it. I found the noise fades away under load, then returns as soon as I let off the throttle. I attached a GoPro to a cross member near the transmission after narrowing the noise down to the bell housing area.
Attached is a link to the video I made : 2008 F150 5.4 Noise - YouTube...

My sons 98 F150 4x4. First off he had a head light go out and replaced the bulb. Then a day or so later his tail lights would not go out after he turned the truck off. I had him to replace the pressure switch(I think that's what it is called ) anyways, that didn't work. So now he takes out the fuse every time he turns off the truck, just so the lights will go out. But, when he puts the brake fuse back in, the brakes work fine, but his windows will not roll down. I am totally confused with what is going on.

I have a 2005 F-150. Recently, I have heard an alarm like tone for five seconds or so after cranking up. Often, this sounds immediately after cranking up but sometimes, it happens a few minutes after cranking up. There is no light that accompanies it on the instrument panel and the sound stops after sounding for a few seconds and does not recur until the engine is started another time. What this might be?

I just started to have this problem yesterday. Engine light comes on and stays on. Engine shakes and truck won't go over 50 MPH. Autozone code checker came up with P0171.
Truck has about 95K miles and I had the spark plugs replaced at 75K miles.
Transmission was rebuilt at around that time also.
I only drove it to Autozone and back today to post the code and see what everyone's opinion is as to what's wrong.
Here's what the printout says : P0171 "Fuel Trim Bank One Condition"
