I would like to add the stereo controls to my steering wheel. From what I gathered it can be done by just buying the buttons and the taking it to the stealership to flash the computer to get them to work? BTW This is on my 06 XLT Scab.
View 1 RepliesThis may sound petty, but I would like to have the radio controls on the left side of the steering wheel of my 2012, instead of the cruise control. I guess the main question is how the wire harness is set up. Do the wiring can be re-routed to accommodate the switch?
Also, I want to smooth out the ride a tad so as to lessen the amount of griping from from the passenger seat. What is acceptable in lowering the tire pressure to allow a better ride without compromising tire wear? The factory specs are 65 psi. My truck is a 2012 fx4 Lariat with the 6.7
I really would like to add steering wheel controls on my 2001 expedition. I only have cruise controls on there now, and don't want to add that little stick on remote thing... Anyway to possibly make dual use of the cruise control buttons already in place? All I really care about are volume controls anyway.
View 6 RepliesI bought my truck as a 2012 base XLT model, with no Sync and no audio control buttons on the right-hand side of the steering wheel. Since then, I have retrofitted in the stock navigation / audio system, added the Sync module, and installed a new steering wheel which came with the proper audio / sync controls on the right-hand side.
After installing the steering wheel, all of the buttons on both the left and right sides light up properly at night, and the controls on the left side for cruise and the message center still work fine. I had the dealer reprogram the SCCM to the VIN of a 2011 Lariat truck which had nav. However, they told me they could not get the wheel controls to work and ended up reprogramming the SCCM back to my VIN.
I would really like to get this to work. In consulting with the company that set me up with the navi and Sync, they said there may be some module which acts as a gateway between the SCCM and the audio system, but not really sure which module that is. Could be the BCM or the instrument cluster.
The factory stereo in my Elantra 2015 sedan does not have bluetooth and the steering wheel does not have the audio controls on the left side. I want to replace the factory stereo with a bluetooth stereo and add audio controls to the steering wheel. If I get the same audio controls that are on Elantras with bluetooth will they work? Is the wiring or wiring harness present for the audio controls? Would the car computer have to be reprogrammed?
View 31 RepliesLooking for the wiring diagram for the steering wheel controls for the head unit, mainly which wire is volume. I bought a new head unit for my 04 f150 truck and cant find the wiring diagram online to figure it out. I know there are 3 separate connections.
1 main one for power, gnd, ant, speakers, etc..
1 for the subwoofer if your truck came with it which mine did.
1 for the steering wheel controls if your truck came with it which mine did.
I want to know what the different color wires are connected to on the steering wheel control connection. i have had no luck searching online for about an hour. I know I could buy an adapter but really only want the volume to work and figured if I could just tap into that one wire and connect it to my new head unit.
I notice that yesterday when it was raining and i wanted to start air conditioner and the ON/OFF and temperature UP/DOWN buttons don't work when i drive straight but when I turn just a bit it does ....

The steering wheel controls, horn and cruise control recently died in our '08 wagon. The fact that they went out suddenly and simultaneously suggests that they might be tied to a fuse. I looked around the intarwebs via google and saw some references to a problem with HomeLink wiring in the sunvisor blowing "fuse 5" on older models, but I'm unsure if something like this is even valid for the B6.
View 9 RepliesMy 07 Prius has developed a problem and i would like to get opinions about whether the problem could've been caused by the body work I had done a week before.
i want to know if i should take it back to the body shop and ask them to check it, or, if it's not likely to have been caused by the body work, then i'll just take it to the Toyota agency. If it wasn't the body shop, I am hoping to have it covered by the Prius Chat platinum warranty.
When presenting this to the body shop or the Toyota agency, i would like to be as informed as possible about what the possibilities are.
The problem is that some of the steering wheel controls are not working. Some of the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel are not responding. The Info button does not work, and the climate related buttons on the bottom get no response. The Map button and all the bluetooth phone buttons do work.
At first, there was a delayed response when using the Info button. The next day, it stopped responding at all.
Background (not sure if it's relevant): My car was in the body shop for 13 days. I got it back on 8/24. Damage was too the bottom right side, doors and adjacent body.
When i picked up the car and drove it, it seemed fine except that the MPG average was only 25mpg. Normally for me, it's around 38 to 40. It has gradually come back up. for this reason, i was frequently pressing the Info button on the steering wheel to bring up the screen that shows the current mpg average.
My steering wheel controls on the lower half quit working last year , then the cruise control quit intermittently last month , then the air bag light starts appearing last week. Deciding this means a failed clock spring / spiral cable , I took apart my spiral cable housing, and found two obvious breaks in the electrical wiring . I first bought a salvage unit on Ebay, to find it arrived bound, didn't turn freely (and no returns from seller). I then bought one from the dealer and installed it last week and very happily have all symptoms fixed!
The replacement was easier than I expected, the steering wheel was not actually very tight, I doubt I needed the steering wheel puller I 'borrowed' from the parts store , could have just loosed the main nut, wiggled and tugged it loose. Just a note be sure to remove 12 volt power from the car, and mark the steering wheel center shaft to the steering wheel for reinstall .
As a rural mail carrier I deliver mail out of my prius with the window down, traveling about 5 hours a day on dusty ,sand roads in Kansas. The car interior gets dusty and this caused the failure of the spiral cable.
Pic's of the old failed unit, the new one comes with some lubricant, white perhaps lithium grease for the ribbons/ wheels, mine had dryed up patches of grease, some I cleaned off the ribbons before the pictures where taken. I'll check the new one in a year, may regrease , cleaning it out to try to prevent this from happening again. I did add some plastic under the airbag to improvise a dust shield for the new spiral cable. Car has 197k bought it with 106k , now has around 60 k from driving on the route.
So I have a loose wire to my steering wheel controls. They don't light up anymore and when I smack the back of the wheel, they will light momentarily. Also, 2 of the radio buttons work intermittently. How do I access them?

It has aftermarket stereo , not sure if wiring from that would affect cruise control as well as radio controls. Cruise light does not even light on dash. Clockspring? Radio wiring harness?
View 2 RepliesThis is probably a strange request but I did just get a 2011 F250 XL. The SYNC and audio controls on the steering wheel was an available option, but my truck does not have it. I didn't ask for it to be required in the vehicle search, just one of those "if it has it, awesome" things. I am looking to add the buttons to control the radio and MAYBE SYNC for the bluetooth feature if this is possible.
I know to add SYNC I need a radio that's ready for it, which mine is, and a microphone somewhere and all of that so that's not to be done until a later date. My old F150 had the radio controls on the wheel and I miss that. Can I add the radio controls on the wheel? And maybe SYNC without needing to add a Parrot device for bluetooth? Or am I SOL on both?
So I just got my 2014, upgraded from a 2007, and one change that is bugging me is the steering wheel controls for the radio. In the old truck clicking the scan up/down buttons scanned to the next radio station, in the new truck it scans through the preset radio stations. I really don't like that. Can it be changed or am I stuck with it?

View 6 RepliesI have had some play in the steering wheel of my '04 F150 screw 4x4 for a long time. Today, I replaced the outer tie rod ends in order to get rid of a squeak. While I was down there, I tried to move the inner tie rods in and out and didn't detected any movement so I figured they were still good.
Now that the new outer tie rods are in place, my squeak is much better but I am still noticing play in the steering wheel. Assuming that I checked the inner tie rods correctly and that they are indeed ok, and assuming my new outer tie rod ends are good, why would I have any play at all in the steering wheel?
My wife wants the stereo from her last car put into our 2006 Sonata GLS. what is needed for the steering wheel volume controls to work?
View 11 RepliesI have a 2005 f350 lariat 6.0. My horn, cruise volume, heat and fan controls on the wheel are not working. The airbag light isn't on. I am thinking that it's the clock spring. The stereo controls were intermittent for a while so I think it's the clock spring. I just want to be sure. Anything I could check?

I have the "four" package so there's a blank spot on the right side where the radar cruise and lane assist controls would be, and I would kill to have the three driving mode buttons right there for easy switching while driving around town. Is that sort of thing even technically possible?
