I just got a new-to-me 2007 4.0L Explorer . When I turn the ignition to the on position, I get a message that says "Check charging system"...
Once I start the engine it goes away. Is this normal?
My battery reads 12.6 with the engine off and 13.8 with it on.
I have an '04 F-150 4 x 4 Supercrew Lariat w/ the 5.4 V-8. It has 105,832 miles on it. No issues until a week ago. Battery light and "Check Charging System" message appear 30 seconds after cranking the engine. I have replaced the battery (Ford Motorcraft), belt and alternator (Motorcraft 130 Amp). Still getting battery light and error message. I've read some post that indicate it could be a short in the fuse box.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2008 f350 6.4 (105,000 miles) and I am randomly getting the check charging system the batterys have a standing voltage of 13.8 and 13.9-14v (read from the ecu with scanner) both at idle and under a load. I also checked the alternator and its making 13.8-14 all the batteries are tight and there is no corrosion.
View 1 RepliesNew Interstate battery, new alternator (x2, 1st was Napa (DOA), 2nd Motor Craft) and 1 new Napa idler wheel. The battery test at 12.5 and when the truck idles it shoot to 15.14. It holds a charge fine, but the check charging system keeps popping up which concerns me, not only because its annoying. Also why such a spike when started...?
View 1 RepliesCheck Charging System message, battery-shaped idiot light, and audible beep has happened a few times over the past month or so. Yesterday it happened while my wife was driving so I had to bring it to the dealer, not to mention I drove it last night and there was constant beeping for about a minute which was pretty annoying.
But first I had the battery checked, which turned out to be OK. Also we got a new alternator 5 months ago, installed by the dealer.
Today they said they "updated the computer" whatever that means, and otherwise couldn't find anything wrong. $99.85 plus tax.
Needless to say I'm not confident that "updating the computer" has fixed it. What are the odds we get the warning again in a couple of weeks? Short of disconnecting the sensor, is there anything that can be done?
Three weeks ago I replaced my battery and serpentine belt as general maintenance before heading out on a prolonged trip. The next day I started receiving 'check charging system' whenever I turned the a/c on and the truck is at idle. Power steering becomes very hard to turn and engine feels like it is going to quit.
This is not a problem at highway speeds. Looking at the engine when the a/c is engaged, a slow down of the belt/pulley is obvious. The alternator has been removed and checked, battery checked good, and the belt is the right size/length. What could be causing this? Again it started behaving like this after a belt and battery change. There is no issue if the a/c is off...
After clearing my 2013 Avalon today, which took about 2 hours to complete, I attempted to start the car and it would/will not turn over. I waited a bit and attempted again, same result. The battery appears to be fine, all the lights and the console are working, power windows, etc. The heads up display had this message: "Check Charging System" I have check the owners manual and read something about the car being in Accessory mode. Another item referred to the fuel system being disable. None of these examples make sense.

View 4 RepliesMy 2008 2wd 4.0l XLT is having a strange power steering issue. When I start the truck and back out of my driveway it feels like I have no power steering. Within about ten seconds of putting the truck in reverse the "check charging system" warning comes on the dash. As long as it is on I have no power steering. That warning stays on for about 15-20 seconds and then goes away. As soon as it goes away power steering is restored.
I have checked my battery and it is good, it is also pretty new. The power steering fluid level is good. Based on another thread that seemed to have a similar issue I replaced the serpentine belt, the idler pulley and the belt tensioner. No changes at all to the issue. My next step is to replace the power steering pump....
I have Lexus 460 LS L 2007. Few months back changed the battery and every thing was ok. 2 months after I had problem in the sound system ( radio and dvd ) which was on and off. One month back suddenly I had all the warning lights in the dashboard on with massage saying that that the brake system is malfunctioning and check the ABS system.
I took the car to LEXUS dealer and they reprogrammed the computer abd then every thing went back to normal and the problem fixed. Two days after I had these warning lights again with the same massege. I do not know what to do ??
I've noticed that the car has started to give me all the dummy messages, particlarly "CHECK 4WD" when I turn the ignition on without the engine running. If I then hold the brake pedal and start the engine, the message remains. If I turn the ignition off, and then start normally with the brake pedal depressed and start the engine it goes all normally and "CHECK OK" and I never get any errors when driving. I also noticed when this happens the AFS light is flashing as well - well, basically every warning on the dash is lit.
So, what's up with that ... I know it's normal for all the dash lights to light when the ignition is on and engine is off but I never noticed CHECK 4WD in this state previously. I haven't really noticed if it happens every time but it seems to happen quite a bit when I just turn the ignition back on to do something like close the moonroof if I forgot it. It's also odd that it doesn't clear when starting the car without first turning ignition off after that.
I assume that nothing is actually broken because it all behaves normally when starting the car regularly and the car does not complain at all when driving around.
I have a 2006 XC90 AWD 2.5L Turbo 85K miles. Tonight my school teacher wife went out after school to start the car and the key will not turn past the first detente. Lights, radio, etc work but the key will not turn.
Only error message on the screen is "Alarm System Service Required" but that has been on and off for almost two years.
I called the dealer and they said to tow it in and they would have to tear the steering column apart as the steering lock is broken...?!?
I have a 2004 Explorer with 167,000 miles that has begun to display erractic messages such as, check charging system, low tire pressure, AvTrac off and about everything there is. Reset and everything looks good then messages start again. I am thinking computer module.
View 3 RepliesThe key will not turn to off, stuck in acc. I have no power to the windows, sunroof, seat and seat heaters, and no brake lights, and the mirrors have no power either. I took the car to the local GM dealer who told me the ignition was not in any recall and found that the Body Control Module was bad and needed replacement.
View 5 RepliesLess than 30 days ago, replaced the Timing Belt, Water Pump, Front Arm Bushings, and Power Steering High Pressure Hose on my 2007 Honda Odyssey.
Today, my wife noticed the engine was noisier than usual, then suddenly became stranded on the roadside when the power steering went out; at the same time a "Check Charging System" error displayed on the panel. The van was within walking distance of home. I got it home and checked the engine, finding the Power Steering Fluid Reservoir to be nearly empty (far lower than the minimum line).
My questions - am I right to think Honda blew it? Does the above scenario sound like they simply forgot to refill the fluid after their repair? Or other? If negligence, what sort of damage may have resulted that I should be on the lookout for? Finally, why is the "Check Charging System" light coming on as a result of this?
1. I think my battery is getting weak.... when i cranked it, it didnt sound strong and the original battery eye says to add distilled water. I am thinking about getting a replacement battery at Costco.
2. so right after it started, the message of "Check Brake System" shows up. Tried to restart but no go. Drove about 15 miles and all seems fine but message is still there.
* is it OK to replace with a Costco brand battery (they have a great returns policy) and is there anything i need to do before or after replacement?
* could the Check Brake System be due to the weak battery? How can I reset it?
* Anything else that can cause this error message?
Started the car this morning- and got a message. "Check parking brake system" .
The Auto button for the parking brake seems to flicker, and the park light on the dash blinks. Car make ding sound while driving.

I have a 2003 GX with DVD & NAV. The DVD gives me a message on the rear screen that says "Disk Check" and then never plays the disk. I tried multiple disks and am pretty sure the DVD unit is toast. Looking forward to replace the DVD unit in the center console?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2006 RX400h. On 3 occasions I've been stranded. The car won't start and I get an error/message Shift to P when Starting. However I am in Park. It's coupled with a Check VSC System warning. Service department says I have just drained the accessory battery, however nothing is being used other than standard equip such as lights, dash etc. I've had all batteries changed in the car over the 4 years I've owned it. Is this usual?

This message displays on and off about every other day. Yesterday, I hooked an OBD2 scanner up and discovered the following error code history:
P0171 : System Too Lean Bank 1
P0174 : System Too Lean Bank 2
P0022 : "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded Bank 2
P0335 : Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit
P2195 : 02 Sensor Biased/Stuck Lean Bank 1 Sensor 1
Every now and then the engine will run a little rough, but usually at low RPM, and (again) not very often. The car has 166,000 miles of mostly highway driving.
We bought our ES350 used a number of years ago. When we changed the battery, the Nav system no longer worked and a " A program cannot be read. Please consult to a dealer." message appeared. Am I wrong to assume that the loss of power from the battery swap caused the software to dump from the system and there was no disc installed to "reboot" the system? All I need is a disc and the system will restore? If so will an "update" disc work or do I need an original "program" disc?
