I need to change my plugs in my 06 5.4 122,000 miles truck is bucking and not right under acceleration but its my only transportation to work and I am afraid of breaking a plug and then having no clue what to do after that. Need input on making the plugs come out easier ...
View 6 RepliesI just bought a 2006 F150 with the 5.4 triton motor. Under acceleration at around 40-45, the vehicle starts to skip and shudder.
Based on what I read online and the fact that I pulled a code for a #1 cyl misfire, I assumed that i just need to change the plugs, and I am trying to scheduule that now.
I just read another post about the TC not locking up due to needing the filter and fluid changed and a way to fix that would be to take OD off and see if it still does it.
When I drive with the od off, it does not do it but i am now confused since i got the one code for a misfire.
Driving around town it doesn't happen too often. Like if I am starting from a stop it feels fine but when going up a hill or passing on the highway it bucks and shakes and doesn't want to go over 3000 rpm. Also, the check engine light is on and it flashes when it's really bad. I took apart the intake and didn't see anything weird. I am about to take it in to see what the code says because it's been getting worse.
View 6 RepliesI have an 06 F150 2wd with the 5.4. Today on my way home I had to cross traffic while getting on the highway and had to get on it a bit. When I gave it the gas the truck down shifted then just fell on it's face until I let off the gas a little then it sped up like normal. It normally runs great but I don't get on it much. I just don't see why It runs great until I try to get a move on.
View 3 RepliesI have had the check engine light on for a while now with the truck shuttering and bucking along with loss of power. Feels like there is something holding back the power. Just a couple days ago I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden it felt like I was in neutral, tried to accelerate but the engine revved but wouldn't go anywhere, I clicked the overdrive on and it went into gear and I was able to drive home. Now every time I drive it, it goes a block or two in drive then again feels like neutral, put in overdrive and it goes into gear. I just put in new ignition coils.
View 9 RepliesJust rejoined this Ford gang after years absence. Used to own "The Muny Pit", a '79 F-150 4WD monster with a '69 429... constantly breaking something. Anyway, where to look on my '08 F-150 XLT 4WD with a 5.4, 83,000 miles. Searched the search bar for my title and found a post on an '00 Expedition describing similar issue than mine... for about 6 months now when I accelerate either from stop or a crawl; forward or reverse; more so when turning, but does do it wheels straight.
Upon initial acceleration I have this horrendous rumble / shudder in the truck, like the grinding metal bearing sound/feeling felt when the pinion bearing went out on my '79 (only felt it seconds before the 9" rear pumpkin exploded). Once rolling it stops. I have checked all wheel bearings.. I have check all the suspension joints... everything looks fine, no obvious issues. The only suspension mod I've done is a 1.5" leveling kit when brand new. On the Expedition two replys suggested changing the transmission/transfer case fluids claiming it cured their vehicles.
I have a new to me 2005 F150 with 86,000 miles. When I am driving through town at a low acceleration or a constant speed at between 40 - 50 mph the truck starts to sputter and kick a bit. When I give it some gas the problem goes away. This gets worse when I pull my bass boat, and starts at around 30 mph. When I hook it up to a reader I get a P0316 code. Only code I get.
Also when I am driving through my neighborhood between 20 - 30 mph I get a noise that sounds like there is a plastic bag stuck under the truck. I have checked under the truck to see if the firewall is loose anywhere, but could not find anything. Other than those two issues the truck runs great. What these problems could be?
2006 ford f150... Mine started out as a misfire problem which I first changed the plugs. I followed the Ford TSB and got all 8 plugs out with no problems. Still misfiring and setting a code for bank 1 catalytic converter inefficiency bank 1. By the way bank 1 is passenger side. After changing bank 2 because the guy at Advance auto said bank 1 was drivers side. Still setting misfire codes and for bank 1 cat. ineff.
So after installing new coil packs and 2 injectors, Still misfiring #3 and #1 and cat. ineff. bank 1. Decided to buy my own code reader, which is a must if you are going to try to work on these new vehicles. Decided to unplug o2 sensor to see where bank 1 really was. Thats when I found out bank 1 was indeed passengers side. Changed o2 sensors. Still misfiring. Decided to buy the true bank 1 cat converter.
Dropped old bank 1 cat and found all of the internal workings all broke up and clogging converter. Truck runs like new. I spent 178.00 for bank 1 converter at pep boys. After spending O approx. 600 in other parts that didnt fix it. I think the spark plugs not being changed until 115000 miles caused the converter to go bad. Buy a code reader and it makes it a whole lot easier to diagnose your problem yourself. and save a whole lot of money throwing new parts at it.
I have a 2006 ford f 150 with a 5.4 Triton 3v engine and every time I floor it and the engine reaches 3000 rpms the truck backfires and looses power. Sometimes it wont pass 3000 rpm it just stays there and backfire and have no power. Sometimes the check engine light flashes...... I took the coils off and looked at them and they all looked pretty clean. Also the truck idles rough and sometimes when it cruising at low rpms, and I give it a little gas the truck will randomly misfire and shake hard. also the engine sounds like a diesel engine........ What might be wrong.
View 6 RepliesI've got an 06 F150, 5.4l crew cab lariat. So to start, I had a programmer screw up my ECU, so when I got it re programmed at ford, everything works except for the ABS sensors. I recently had someone break into my truck and broke my stereo when they couldn't get it out. So I was driving home from work the other day and lost my whole instrument cluster, windows wouldn't roll up or down, wipers worked very slowly until not at all. shut off the truck and wouldn't restart. I jumped it and started it. ran fine. with the exception of the previous problems. I noticed when it got dark out that my my taillights and head lights were on very dimly with the switch off. Also hearing a clicking sound coming from under the truck, at the back of the cab and front of the bed. the only thing electric that's back there is the fuel pump (i believe). I am at a complete loss.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2006 F150 5.4L 3V with 105,000 miles on it. Recently, it has developed a misfire that is progressively getting worse. It happens when the truck is in overdrive, with engine RPM between about 1200 to 1800. Cruising at this RPM the truck runs great. If I increase the throttle, I develop a pronounced misfire. Once the truck down shifts out of OD and engine RPM exceeds 2000 RPM the misfire goes away. I have never had the CEL light come on during any of these events. The truck has the original plugs in it AFIK. I have not changed them.

View 4 RepliesI just went out to move my truck to take out garbage and it cranks but doesn't start. It is 4.6L 4WD. I sprayed ether in intake no change. Checked all fuses all good. It has been raining pretty hard the last 3 days and it has been sitting in rain all 3 days. I checked for codes with a simple code scanner no codes. But the code scanner I used is not able to do KOEO or KOER tests. I know it needs new plugs but it has never sputtered or died on me. Has slight misfire but not engine stopping. I havnt had any check engine lights or problems before.

I was also told by a technician in a trans shop that the Trans-X additive for hypoid oil in a posi-trac was ok to use even though the back of the tube says "Not safe for automatic transmissions". Do this is accurate or if the guy was just blowing smoke?
View 5 RepliesLong delay bringing new travel trailer home last week. Shift cable not placed properly in retainer during assembly (there is NO way it popped out) and it was resting on exhaust manifold. Evidently towing camper made enough heat to burn through the shielding and truck trans would not move out of drive.
The good news is that I could climb under (getting too old for that stuff!) and put it into gear/park by hand. But of course I didn't know that for the first 4 hours.
I drive a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT and recently had a new heater core installed, but now when I try to drive it, it cuts off on me once I get out of the driveway. It starts back up fine, but then cuts again seconds after I try to drive. When I start the car it idles fine. I could have it idling for 10 minutes plus and have no issues, but once I shift it into gear and begin to back out of the drive way it shuts down again.

View 4 RepliesI have a 2006 f150 fx4 4x4. I drove it home from work yesterday and it ran and drove just fine. I got up this morning to go to work and turn the key but the engine won't fire. I turns over just fine. I turn the key to release the trans to put it in neutral to see if it would start like that and the shifter is stuck. I button in the front will not go in. I tried lifting the rear tires off the ground to see if I could free the trans.

View 12 RepliesI went for a tour with my truck and everything was fine, 5 minutes before getting home I heard a squealing coming from under the hood, I then lost all my gauges inside the truck. The truck didn't shut off so I drove it home. when I shut it off I tried restarting it and it wouldn't even roll over. I tried boosting it and it still won't even crank over.

When this happens the check engine light is on and the truck is still running but will not accelerate, is it possible the computer is going into limp mode and if so what would cause this?
