I have an 06 Lincoln MK LT with 147K miles. Just recently when it went into overdrive it was like I shifted into neutral. Pushed the overdrive off button and it drove just fine although no 3rd gear (overdrive). what do I need to do here other than paying for new tranny.

Truck and trans runs great then trans acts like it was shifted into neutral, rpm's flare up and if you don't get your foot out of it the trans will re engage aggressively. Changed the speed sensor on the rear axle, there are no codes, had a trans shop change the filters and fluids then change out all of the solenoids. They tell me its not a trans problem.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 F150 5.4L 3V with 105,000 miles on it. Recently, it has developed a misfire that is progressively getting worse. It happens when the truck is in overdrive, with engine RPM between about 1200 to 1800. Cruising at this RPM the truck runs great. If I increase the throttle, I develop a pronounced misfire. Once the truck down shifts out of OD and engine RPM exceeds 2000 RPM the misfire goes away. I have never had the CEL light come on during any of these events. The truck has the original plugs in it AFIK. I have not changed them.
View 6 Replies06 with 5.4 and AT. It shudders in overdrive during light to no acceleration. I was told it was the converter. I was also told by a technician in a trans shop that the Trans-X additive for hypoid oil in a posi-trac was ok to use even though the back of the tube says "Not safe for automatic transmissions". Do this is accurate or if the guy was just blowing smoke?
View 5 RepliesI have a 1998 ford mustang v6 automatic with 79k. I've owned it for 8 years and it has always shifted odd into overdrive. If I take my foot off the gas it will go into overdrive but not the smoothest. Should I start with a fluid flush? It shifts great through all other gears.
View 1 RepliesOn my 2006 Ford F150 2WD, v6 automatic, the overdrive dash lamp is blinking, I get a engine light and the code I get is a P0743. That indicates the solenoid or wiring is bad, but everything works just fine. The transmission is running fine, clear fluid - no odor. The overdrive works and the truck shifts like new. When I start, the "OD-OFF" light immediately starts blinking and never changes. I can activate the OD normally and it doesn't effect the blinking light.
Where to start? I suspect that since all is functioning well, the issue is with the signal to the ecm? By the way, I can clear the code so that the engine light goes off, but the "OD-OFF" light remains blinking.
Transmission trouble on an 2006 F150 5.4 triton ... The problem I am having is when you are driving down the road once you hit 30 mph and it goes to shift into the its like it goes into neutral. It does that rill you slow back down to a lower speed then it shifts back down the transmission picks right back up till you get up to speed again, then it like it goes into neutral again. When I turn overdrive off it won't shift out of second gear. I have changed the valve body to the transmission to no success.
View 3 RepliesI think I've joined the ranks of the no overdrive in our Monte club. Bought the car last summer, 184K on the odometer. Previous owner was original owner. Said trans was always strong. Took the car for a spin Saturday. Previously, no OD issues. It's cold out. Pulled up to a light to get out onto main road. Right turn on red. accelerated normally, but noticed a long hold in 1st before shifting into second. Never saw it before, so was paying attention at the next light, which was right away. Accelerated again, and again a long hesitation going from 1st to second.
Next light is right away again. Light turns green, car shifts normally and I drive it about 10 miles. No issues. I paid particular attention to it going into overdrive, and it did. Arrive a junk yard. Got the part I wanted. Spent about an hour in there. Came back out and started home. Car shifted ok, but did not want to go into overdrive. Thought to myself, well, maybe it's cold. Drove some more. Nope. Never wants to go to overdrive anymore. It does shift from 1-2-3-4 ok. I've heard about the stripped spline in the output shaft, but I was wondering if there is another controller somewhere inside, or outside of the trans that could be causing this issue. When I am in OD and in 4 gear and driving at about 50 MPH and I shift it to D, I feel it shift into 3rd. I plan on getting it diagnosed, but was wondering what you all are thinking.
Recent purchase of new 2014 Prius v model 3. Less than 5,000 miles on odo. Transmission shifted into neutral on two occasions when making a right hand turn while going over a small depression (drainage swail). Of course Toyota recommends that I take it to their dealer for diagnosis but if they can't pull the code they will send me on my way. Going to go anyway but feel it is pointless.
View 15 RepliesThree days ago our gently driven Prius with 64K miles suffered an inverter failure. I was driving at 30mph when without any warning or sign of trouble the car shifted into neutral. Soon after that I noticed that the hybrid system, power steering, and VSC warnings came on. Luckily I was in a position to stop on the side. When I shut off and tried to restart, the car was stuck in neutral. In addition to the warnings I mentioned, check engine, oil lamp, and brake system warnings also came on. I got the car towed to a dealership that diagnosed the problem to be the hybrid inverter. It was a warranty repair, but I was told that without the warranty it would have cost me around $3500.
View 18 RepliesI just installed my 2.5" leveling kit. The drivers side went really easy. The passenger side was VERY difficult getting the strut back in without a spring compressor. I got it though after some prying.
Now when I drive straight down the road, she does great. When I turn left, she does fine. When I turn right, it feels like the wheel is wobbling off.
Most of what I have read, people are having wobbles at 60+ MPH. Mine does this at any speed.
What did I do wrong? What is wrong with the truck? Does the leveling kit need to go? What can I do to fix this.
When driving my 2006 F150 it drives real smooth until I hit 50, then it feels like I'm driving on a slightly bumpy road, once I hit 55, smooths out again. Only drives strange at 50 mph. Other speeds smooth as glass.

It's not a little wheel hop its a loud clunk that feels like the tire comes off the ground. I changed the cv axle from the side that seemed to be doing it but it didn't work. Could it be the actuator?

View 9 RepliesWell this weekend I'm doing quite a bit of work to the truck. My tires and exhaust got delivered last night, now I'm just waiting on the leveling kit. Here's my issue:
For a little while now (5k-ish miles) going in and out of overdrive the tranny makes a clunk noise during the shift. Time to change the tranny fluid and filter? I am making a trip up north on Sunday and don't want to have the tranny the bed on the way.
On saturday I am doing the leveling kit (2"), brakes, exhaust (MBRP), and new tires (325/60r20 Terra Grapplers). Should I go ahead and do the tranny fluid and filter while I'm at it, or just wait till I get back. I am figuring on about 2k miles throughout the trip.
I have an 04 f-150 supercrew 4x4 lariat with 103k miles that has a pretty bad vibration between 45-50 after it switches into overdrive, when you turn overdrive off the problem goes away. I've taken it to the dealer and they put shutter guard in it an said to let it work through for a couple hundred miles. It still hasn't gotten any better, what it is?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2004 Fx4 that I took on a cross country trip this past weekend. Everything was running fine until I stopped for the night and got a hotel. Woke up the next morning and the "O/D Off" light was illuminated on the dash and the overdrive toggle button (on mine, on the center console next to the console mounted shifter) doesn't work to turn overdrive back on. When I got on the highway it wouldn't upshift into overdrive.
Hopefully this is just the switch assembly (?) so I won't have to do any major tranny work . . . However, I found it weird that if the switch failed it didn't fail in overdrive since I was running in overdrive the day before.
Also, any link to a good thread about removing the trim on the center console in those trucks to get to the switch assembly? I assume that's a pretty easy job but I've never dug into the console before.
My 2005 4.2 L transmission slips in overdrive but I turn off overdrive and it stops slipping instantly. What could be the reason for this does this require an entire trans rebuild or is it an easy fix.
View 1 RepliesI have lost drive and overdrive. I have first and second and when I let off the gas pedal everything seems normal. When I am in drive with overdrive switched off and keep a steady speed it doesn't shift into drive. When I let off the gas in drive the tach goes to 1k and its like I'm in neutral. If I switch OD on it's like neutral and the engine revs. I have pulled the pan and valve body and do not see any metal.
OD snap ring is intact. Fluid looks good with no burnt smell...I'm thinking shifting solenoids but have not tested them yet. There is no grinding noise at all and no slipping in first and second gears. It threw cam sensors codes and I replaced both but I think that was from the neutral condition and test drove before dropping the pans and still no shifting to drive or OD. No transmission codes...
I bought a 2001 7.3L deisil F250 CC short box a year ago. It has an AFE cold air, a 4inch exhaust and an Edge chip in it, Now the tranny was rebuilt a year before I bought it, however I almost instantly noticed a shutter when starting from a stop. One shop said u joints. I replaced them and the carrier with no results. IMHO u joints was a bad diagnosis as it only happens off the line and not through at a certain rpm. When down shifting I find the truck almost goes into to neutral before engaging 2nd gear. I have a 6.0l tranny cooler and my temps get to 215 and above quite easily when towing... 3-6k-lbs. (I try to pull over before that) Also when towing up hills the tranny almost feels like there's a slight grinding. For the first little bit anyway.
View 8 RepliesWhat may have wrong with my trans on my truck... this is what its doing, I am able to put in drive and drive it for so long then its like the truck is in neutral and doesn't gain or maintain speed. but i can turn the truck off and put it in park and restart the truck and it will go again?? that is how i got it home....
the fluid is burnt now but wasn't that bad until the trans started doing this. I have pulled off the pan and inspected the filter and it does have metal debris in it, pulling the valve body off tonight before work (work 3rd shift) to inspect that, i think it has something to do with the solenoids or valve body because it actually moves but then quits until i restart the truck. Also does the transfer case use fluid from the transmission? or are the fluids separated between the 2.
Truck has 4.0L SOHC with a 5R55E in it 4WD...
