I noticed the rear end of my F-150 starting to leak from the front of the rear end. What will I need to do to fix it and is there a quick way to fix this issue, as two kids unfortunately prevent me from having much time to fix the issue.
View 5 RepliesI think the rear cargo light on my dad's 06 F-150 might be leaking. Had a water stain trail down the back seat. Is this very common? Is it hard to replace the gasket/seal in the light? I dont really think it's the seal that holds the back glass in.

I have an 04 lariat extended cab truck with the sliding rear window, but i have a leak somewhere back there. I have noticed that water literally drips right in the top middle of the window, but around the window is dry. Also, the roof interior trim is wet at the corners in the rear closest to the door. i do have a cracked 3rd brake light, is that the reason it is leaking or is there a seal somewhere else outside on top of the truck, maybe around the rear window as a whole?

View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 gmc sierra, 4x4, 1/2 ton, has 155,000 miles on it. I recently changed both front hubs on my truck. They didn't have any play in them just noise. I had one new front hub that was leaking grease out of the rear seal. I took that one back off and got a new one. Must have had a bad rear seal. Now I'm getting a front end vibration at highway speeds. Between 70-75mph. It gets worse when turning left when highway turns. It goes completely away when turning right at highway speeds. It doesn't shake in the steering wheel. Feels like its coming from the left front area or left front tire. More in the floor boards. So i rotated my tires, and its not as bad but still is there in the same spot. I've checked everything.
Cv axles have no tears in the boots and aren't spinning out any grease. I turn the steering back and fourth while the truck was on the ground and I didn't notice any play in any of the front end components. The only thing I did notice was the passenger side inner tie rod boot had a bunch of grease built up on it. But the boot was actually full. Could one of the bad wheel bearings caused something else to go bad? Warped rotor? Truck doesn't shake or vibrate when braking either.
While sitting at the heliport waiting on the rain to stop I noticed my rear window is leaking right above the sliding window. I'm kinda worried about this while I'm offshore because I have a power sliding window and I don't want it to ruin anything that moves the window. Do these trucks have a problem with this and where do I start to look at to fix this?
View 2 RepliesThis might be a dumb question but I see trucks where they aren't lifted much and the tires look like they are out so wide. Idk how to explain it. They look like the front and rear end are wider than the rest of the vehicle aND sticks out farther. What this is or how to make my truck look like that? I assume it's some type of extensions for the front and rear end....
View 11 RepliesMy 05 f150 is lift with a 6" skyjacker lift I've only had it a week from the dealership when it stopped firing on cylinder 8 which is a lil problem easy to fix,but then it started clunking around turns in the front and rear end. So I took it the dealer and 3 days later they give it back. It's running good but its still clunking in the front they said they changed the cv joints and tie rod ends but after I got home. I inspected it they changed one damn tie rod and that was it. Is it the tie rod end that's still making the noise?

I just replaced the firewall actuator valve for the hubs, and went to try out the 4 wheel drive. The hubs engage and lock to the axle shaft, the transfer case engages and locks to the front driveline, but the front differential isn't doing anything. Is there an actuator for the front or did something break inside?
my f150 has the push button 4x4 and the light on the dash illuminates but i get no power to the front wheels only a grinding noise if the rear wheels spin.

View 7 RepliesOK so I noticed the last few weeks that I have just a small shutter coming from my rear end every now and then. It feels like it locks up for just a sec and then is fine. It will normally do this earlier in the day and maybe once or twice. Is this telling me its time to add some more friction modifier into the rear diff or do I have another issue. I don't notice it once the truck is warmed up and been driving around some.

2006 Lariat 4x4 Troubleshooting. My front wheels wont engage when I select 4H or 4L. No dash lights are ever lit.
I read up and understand how the system works and plan to replace the solenoid, transfer case motor and both hub actuators. I swapped out the solenoid and wanted to test that it was functioning properly so I followed the video below:

With the engine running and selector switch at 2WD, I pull the vacuum lines off and can feel vacuum at the supply. I then hook up just the supply line up (to the bottom port) and expect to feel vacuum at the other solenoid port (top port - what I would call the outlet) and cannot feel any vacuum.
This has halted my repair attempts as I am not convinced this is functioning and would pull in the actuators if they were functional. I know it's a small vacuum from a small orifice but I would think I should feel it by hand, no?
The solenoid's electrical connector is plugged in during this as well. I get the same performance with the old solenoid and the new. If I bypass the solenoid I can feel vacuum at the front wheel hubs.
Should I try a third solenoid? Seems unlikely I would have 2 bad ones...No OBDII codes at all. What to try next?
I just bought 2006 f150 4wd . It make a grinding sound on both sides in the front end..it seems to be independent and when I slow and come to a stop, I makes a clanking noise like its locking something in.
View 4 RepliesSome say the front drive shaft should turn by hand in 2h and some say it shouldn't.... I have an 06 FX4, with auto locking hubs (meaning if I want 4H i turn from 2H to 4H). I've been getting a terrible shake at 55mph (yes I've read the forums on that too, not my question) .
So I crawled underneath to look at rear driveshaft, u joints, etc..., and by chance I grabbed the front driveshaft to pull myself forward to check out everything else, and it didn't turn......
I twisted a little and the shafts going to both front wheels turned. Now shouldn't these turn freely in 2H?....The light to 4H never comes on when I switch it, but it is engaged (or else I'd never have gotten unstuck....several times)... Am I stuck in 4H and just didn't know? .
I'm not too familiar with the difference between lift kits and leveling kits. I want to lift my truck 2" but in doing research do i need get a lift kit and a leveling kit? For the front and the back? I have a 2006 F150 4.6 V8 RWD I also haven't been able to find any good places to but the kits (also because I don't know what all i may need) It would be ideal to get a kit i can bolt on myself.
View 1 RepliesI just bought a used 2006 Ford F-150 it has the Triton 4.6L V8. Seems to be running ok a little white smoke on start up, but the other night after leaving work at 5am when it was around 10 degrease freezing. When I started my truck it was idling very rough like it was about to die but it didn't after it warmed up it was a little better but I think I seen black smoke from the rear end, but like I said after it was warm it sounded like normal so I started to head home and got about 15 mins down the road and it started to run very bad like it was bogging down and lost all power if I pushed on the gas all the way I was not picking up any speed but if I let off the gas the truck would jerk very bad and gain speed. But the next day in the morning it started up fine no problem I even drove it around town with no issue. What this issue could be?
