what can i do to make my truck really lout? ive already cut 2 cats out and ran 2.25 strait pipes and its not even that loud would it hurt to cut the other 2 cats out??
View 10 RepliesA week and a half ago I went out to my truck to go somewhere and I got about 2 blocks away and the truck started running really rough and had a big lack of power, so I turned around and scanned it with my code reader and the codes I got were p2271, p2196, p0303, p0012, p2197, and p2272. since then I've changed all the spark plugs, boots, swapped all the coils and injectors from a great running truck, fuel filter, and the bank 1 upstream O2 sensor.
the other thing that came to mind that could of caused the problem is that a few days before the problem started. I jump started a co-workers car and he hooked the cables up backwards on his car. Could this be the cause of the problems I'm having.
The truck is an 05 F150 FX4 5.4 with 180,000 miles on it.
My 2004 f150 xlt has been extremely shaky after exceeding 60 mph thus was a slight problem that has been getting worst it's shaking so hard I feel like the mirror is gonna fall of. What could this be?
View 4 RepliesOk I have a 2004 F150 Fx4 ext. cab. I had the truck for sale and due to something coming up I was unable to sell it. Kinda wish I did now. But anyways the truck was running great up until last week. I was drove it to work which I normally dont do. On my way home the rear end was making a weird noise. Kinda like a brake sticking. I tapped the brakes a few times and it seemed to work. Then a mile down the road it was doing it again without me trying to come to a stop and the back end was shaking. I pulled over and crawled under the truck to see if a u-joint was going bad. Everything seemed good. It never happened again until today.
This morning I hoped in the truck and went to my parents house. Its about a 5 mile drive and truck was acting fine. Came home and it was still fine. A few hours later I figured I would go up to the fire department I am on and find something to do up there. I got in the truck and didnt make it 5 feet from where I was parked and there was this bad noise followed by my whole truck shaking. It felt like the truck was going to fall in pieces in my driveway. I stopped looked around and didn't notice anything wrong. I figured I would just try to drive a little bit further and it was even worse. So I put it in reverse and it was normal. I put it in Drive again and thought my teeth were about to fall out of my mouth.
What could cause this? I know my transmission was leaking some oil from where the gear shifter comes out. I would check the trans fluid and add some if needed. I drove it up to the fire hall Monday night and did notice a slight burning smell but that was the only time I smelled it. Could it be the transmission?
My 2006 f150 was making a noise that's coming from the engine. It sound like rocks in the engine. When I'm going 50-60 MPH the engine starts to make a sounds like rocks in the engine. What's happening. When I go about 40 it stops.
View 12 RepliesJust a hour ago, driving along about 45, then I hear a loud bang and my truck quits. I get off the road and it won't even turn over. I had a friend tow it back to the barracks and put a socket and breaker bar on the crank and can't move it. All the fluids are fine. Possible seized up? The thing was running great as always then boom. Nothing! It's a 06' F150, 5.4, 97K on it.

So anyways, Started and an intermediate problem where sometimes it would stalling when making turns, such as entering a driveway, making turns or going from reverse to drive. Now its turned into more of a problem with stalling, even while in just idle and not just in gear.
At idle RPM is sporadic from 300-900. Here is where I'm at New Fuel Filter. ECM is reading 38 to 41 psi fuel pressure at idle and when the throttle is pushed.
Took a chance and changed the belt since the old was a bit lose. Even ran the engine without a belt and there was no change in my problem.
I've removed the throttle body, just learned these engines don't have an IAC, they use and IAC motor instead. I don't know how to test that but I'm googling it.
Back of throttle blade is all gunked up so I'm cleaning that now. It has no codes btw.
i have a 2006 f-150 xlt, i was driving it today and it started making a 5x5 beeping noise shortly after i started it up. I read on a few forums that that beeping is a warning about the passenger airbag sensor or something. anyways it went away and kept driving for 5 minutes or so when suddenly the dash went out and all the gauges dropped but i was still able to drive fine. A minute later the engine just died and i managed to pull over to the side of the road. now nothing works when i turn the key, not even a light, its just a dead weight, the remote locking doesn't even work. the only sign of life is a LED from my phone charger that is plugged into the outlet. the battery is only 2 months old so its not that.
View 2 RepliesI've got a 2005 F-150 (5.4 triton) with about 35k miles that I rarely use in 4x4 mode. The other day, after stopping to fill up with gas, the truck 4x4 Lo light was on after starting it. The dashboard switch was still in 2H mode as I never switched it. I first thought that the dashboard light might be in error, but when I began to pull out of the gas station. the truck was in fact in 4x4 Lo. I had forgotten how to cycle it back to 2H so I slowly drove about 3 miles home at 20 mph.
Once home, I re-read the tranny sync sequence and managed to get back to 4x2. I called the dealer who never heard of a truck getting into that Lo mode w/o activating the switch and suggested that I just monitor it. I read a number of forum threads discussing the IWE and solenoid problems, but all of those threads dealt with issues of not being able to get too 4x4 mode. My biggest concern is that I leave in a month for a 2000 mile trip, towing a cargo trailer and I'd hate to inadvertently switch into 4/4 when traveling 60 mpg on a highway.

I was driving to work 2 days ago and all of a sudden my truck started acting all weird. I couldn't accelerate and it seemed as though I was driving over rumble strips. I went directly to the garage and they told me that 2 fuel injectors mal-functioned and that flooded everything with gas. I needed 2 injectors and 8 spark plugs. The next day the garage called and said that they replaced the parts but now there is a terrible knocking noise and that I needed a new engine.
I am not a car wiz so what other things should I be aware of? What other questions should I be asking?
I'm having an issue with my 2005 f150 xlt. Its been happening for almost near a month and still cant locate the issue .
It has a vibration at 75km throughout the whole truck. Ive tried multiple things done to it by a mechanic, such as having the tires balanced and the ujoints replaced. The problem still persisted and after attempting to test out to see if press/releasing the parking break (my mechani suggested trying that out), my driveshaft fell off.
Apparently the center bearing snapped and cant simply be replaced on the 05's. So i had to get a new driveshaft installed (used, both the 3 mechanics I've gone to say its in good condition).
Even after replacing the driveshaft the issue persists - however it seems a bit softer than it was (I am guessing the old driveshaft was worn from the vibration causing it to be worse). After that I took it to another shop to see if they could locate the issue. They did a driveline inspection and engine inspection too see if a misfire could be the cause.
Again, nothing was found. The only thing they were able to find was that the issue only happens under load and slightly occurs at 40 and 100km as well (although alot softer then the one at 75) and they say they cant find anything physically and it was a mystery to them.
I have a 2005 F150 with the 5.4 in it and its getting ready to hit 90k here soon. I just bought the truck less than a month ago and Ive developed a very loud knock at idle. It sounds like it's coming from down in the oil pan. That's where I can hear it the best. When I give it gas and it reaches about 1400rpm it goes away to where I can't hear it. What would this be? I checked the oil level and its fine. I thought at first maybe it was just a heat shield from the cats loose and rattling but its gotten worse and louder. I'm not driving it until Monday when I take it back to the dealer because I still have some warranty left but I would like to know what I'm looking at maybe. This isn't the cam phasers is it? I've read somewhere that these motors don't get good oil pressure in the heads some places?

View 1 RepliesWell I have had a completely dependable truck until today. I was driving my truck on the way home, its an FX4 with only 33K miles on it that i have had since new. I went to accelerate to pass some cyclists (not a hard acceleration) and the vehicle cut off seemed like it kind of bucked a little as if it was shifting gears hard. I got a service light but what was weird was the gauges worked and the RPM still showed 1000. I did have power still though as the radio was on. The only thing that is currently wrong with the vehicle is the odometer gauge is out and needs to be replaced.
Anyway I shifted to neutral and restarted on the fly and than shifted back into drive and it drove the rest of the way home fine. After i got it to my neighborhood i ran it hard and it did not cut off again. I do not want this vehicle to cut out of me in town in the middle of traffic or while i am driving my 18 month old around and i get disabled with her in the truck. Slug of water maybe? I filled up on monday and still have around 3/4 of a tank of gas. Maybe short because of the gauge issue getting worse? I have the crazy door locks and beeps but nothing else has occurred. 05 F150 FX4 5.4 ....
Ok it's kind of hard to explain, but I have a 05 f150 fx4 5.4. Recently only when the motor is cold I will give it gas from about 1000 rpm and get a loud pop. Is sounds like its almost coming from under the drivers seat. After that is fine. I could almost make it do it on command now. But once it's warmed up doesn't seem to do it. I want to fix this. I was thinking possible backfire?? Spark plugs maybe??
View 4 RepliesI have had the check engine light on for a while now with the truck shuttering and bucking along with loss of power. Feels like there is something holding back the power. Just a couple days ago I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden it felt like I was in neutral, tried to accelerate but the engine revved but wouldn't go anywhere, I clicked the overdrive on and it went into gear and I was able to drive home. Now every time I drive it, it goes a block or two in drive then again feels like neutral, put in overdrive and it goes into gear. I just put in new ignition coils.

I have been reading threads that discuss potential causes such as blown fuses, bad brake switch, bad brake shift interlock actuator, and even ignition switch. All fuses are okay. Before I try to get into all the other possibilities, I have a question around what the local auto parts worker suggested. He said that there is a small plastic piece that may have slipped down interfering with gear movement. This could make sense, especially since the white manual release lever doesn't seem to be moving.

View 2 RepliesI have a new to me 2005 F150 with 86,000 miles. When I am driving through town at a low acceleration or a constant speed at between 40 - 50 mph the truck starts to sputter and kick a bit. When I give it some gas the problem goes away. This gets worse when I pull my bass boat, and starts at around 30 mph. When I hook it up to a reader I get a P0316 code. Only code I get.
Also when I am driving through my neighborhood between 20 - 30 mph I get a noise that sounds like there is a plastic bag stuck under the truck. I have checked under the truck to see if the firewall is loose anywhere, but could not find anything. Other than those two issues the truck runs great. What these problems could be?
.Here is a run down of my truck 05 5.4L Screw has 130K on it. Sometime when going up a slight incline the truck at partial throttle will shake very very little. if I put my foot into it the shake goes away and the truck response just fine. It only does this when going uphill on the freeway and on the streets here in Dallas that have slight inclines.
The truck is not throwing any codes nor does it stall at lights. Starts right up in the morning and runs good. Nothing done to the truck except I have an Edge programmer and Magnaflow exhaust. I have pulled the programmer off and returned the truck to stock and it still does the same thing.
I bought the truck used in 07 had 40K miles on it. I'm thinking spark plugs or maybe a coil is going bad. But this doesn't happen all the time just here and there.
I have read many pages here on issue of leveling trucks.What concerns me most is the pics I see of the drive axles angles.
My question is if my stock 2005 runs a 265/70r17 tire and I level it with a 2 to 2.5" kit and change my rim and tire size to 28565r20 will this keep angles more level..
