I have read many pages here on issue of leveling trucks.What concerns me most is the pics I see of the drive axles angles.
My question is if my stock 2005 runs a 265/70r17 tire and I level it with a 2 to 2.5" kit and change my rim and tire size to 28565r20 will this keep angles more level..
Thinking about buying 2007 XLT Supercab 2wd with 235/70R17 stock tires and wheels. Have no plans at this time for a lift.
What would be the largest tire size replacement i could use in an all terrain tire? (thinking about BFG or Bridgestone Revo)...
Been looking at a level for my truck and some new wheels and tires. If I change sizes, can the dealership recalibrate my Speedo and transmission shift points for me?

View 6 RepliesI am at the point where I am going to change my tires on my wheels. Currently running BBS RC's which are 8x17 ET32 with tires 225/45/17.
For those who are running wheels with such specs or more "exagerated" have you had your odometer recalibrated to respect the new rolling diameter change or not? If yes what was your easiest solution. I know depending on wheel/tire sizes, various factors can be affected including speed indication.
From all the websites I have seen and asked, I am told that I can go as less a 215 wide but not lower than 45 in "thickness" (if I stay in 17).
My objective is to of course remove rubbing during load and go a bit lower and therefore do not know if 215/45/17 will be enough of a change from 225/45/17.
I have a Hyundai Sonata w/ P215/55R17 tires.
I am almost due to get new tires and my husband says that we should switch the wheels and get regular tires, not the lower profile tires that were OEM w/ the vehicle. The current tires are expensive and regular tires would be less expensive in the long run. When I asked at the dealership 6 mos ago they said that it would not be good for the car and would adversely affect the performance. If I do change, what tire size (regular sidewall height) would be appropriate (and less expensive)to change to?
My original Yokohama avid s33 is about ready to be changed. It now have over 42k on them. I think I can still stretch it before the winter starts. My OEM size are 195/65/15 and I'm thinking of getting the 205/65/15. According to Tire Dimensions Made Simple - Discount Tire my tire rotation will decrease by over 16 revs per mile. I know the side wall is going to be about a quarter an inch higher about an inch and a half bigger in circumference And the car is going to sit half an inch higher and a wider Width.

I own a v10 and am getting ready to assist a buddy out with his 05 5.4l. He wants me to change the spark plugs out. I have changed the spark plugs on my 04 v10. I think this is the year for went to the 2 piece spark plugs. Also what torq setting should I torq them to? Should I also use anti seize with them or no? Does the gap need to be set on the plugs? I dont have a book to go buy.
View 12 RepliesHad the check engine light in the 2005 F150 (90,000 miles) come on. Got the code checked and its P0420. I know that has to do with the cat threshold levels etc. so I believe I am looking to replace the o2 sensor, if I am not mistaken.
How hard of a job is this? Ive done a decent amount of engine work and worked in a shop in high school. Just looking to see if that is the right thing to try first, replacing the sensor, before replacing the cat.
Also I know its the right bank, but if I am not mistaken there is a before and after the cat o2 sensor, which do i replace? Both?
I have an 05 f-150 and I don't have the factory jack. So what can I use to slide into the crank so I can lower the spare tire?
View 4 RepliesI've got a 2005 F-150 (5.4 triton) with about 35k miles that I rarely use in 4x4 mode. The other day, after stopping to fill up with gas, the truck 4x4 Lo light was on after starting it. The dashboard switch was still in 2H mode as I never switched it. I first thought that the dashboard light might be in error, but when I began to pull out of the gas station. the truck was in fact in 4x4 Lo. I had forgotten how to cycle it back to 2H so I slowly drove about 3 miles home at 20 mph.
Once home, I re-read the tranny sync sequence and managed to get back to 4x2. I called the dealer who never heard of a truck getting into that Lo mode w/o activating the switch and suggested that I just monitor it. I read a number of forum threads discussing the IWE and solenoid problems, but all of those threads dealt with issues of not being able to get too 4x4 mode. My biggest concern is that I leave in a month for a 2000 mile trip, towing a cargo trailer and I'd hate to inadvertently switch into 4/4 when traveling 60 mpg on a highway.
I'm having an issue with my 2005 f150 xlt. Its been happening for almost near a month and still cant locate the issue .
It has a vibration at 75km throughout the whole truck. Ive tried multiple things done to it by a mechanic, such as having the tires balanced and the ujoints replaced. The problem still persisted and after attempting to test out to see if press/releasing the parking break (my mechani suggested trying that out), my driveshaft fell off.
Apparently the center bearing snapped and cant simply be replaced on the 05's. So i had to get a new driveshaft installed (used, both the 3 mechanics I've gone to say its in good condition).
Even after replacing the driveshaft the issue persists - however it seems a bit softer than it was (I am guessing the old driveshaft was worn from the vibration causing it to be worse). After that I took it to another shop to see if they could locate the issue. They did a driveline inspection and engine inspection too see if a misfire could be the cause.
Again, nothing was found. The only thing they were able to find was that the issue only happens under load and slightly occurs at 40 and 100km as well (although alot softer then the one at 75) and they say they cant find anything physically and it was a mystery to them.
1. What is the "stock" tire size for a 2000 F350 7.3 Super Duty 4x4 SRW?
2. Is there a way to adjust PCM to accommodate different tire sizes?
I have an 05 150, 5.4l, My truck idles around 600 rpm when warm, I think that may be slightly low. Not sure what to check on.
View 1 RepliesWell I have had a completely dependable truck until today. I was driving my truck on the way home, its an FX4 with only 33K miles on it that i have had since new. I went to accelerate to pass some cyclists (not a hard acceleration) and the vehicle cut off seemed like it kind of bucked a little as if it was shifting gears hard. I got a service light but what was weird was the gauges worked and the RPM still showed 1000. I did have power still though as the radio was on. The only thing that is currently wrong with the vehicle is the odometer gauge is out and needs to be replaced.
Anyway I shifted to neutral and restarted on the fly and than shifted back into drive and it drove the rest of the way home fine. After i got it to my neighborhood i ran it hard and it did not cut off again. I do not want this vehicle to cut out of me in town in the middle of traffic or while i am driving my 18 month old around and i get disabled with her in the truck. Slug of water maybe? I filled up on monday and still have around 3/4 of a tank of gas. Maybe short because of the gauge issue getting worse? I have the crazy door locks and beeps but nothing else has occurred. 05 F150 FX4 5.4 ....
what can i do to make my truck really lout? ive already cut 2 cats out and ran 2.25 strait pipes and its not even that loud would it hurt to cut the other 2 cats out??
View 10 RepliesA week and a half ago I went out to my truck to go somewhere and I got about 2 blocks away and the truck started running really rough and had a big lack of power, so I turned around and scanned it with my code reader and the codes I got were p2271, p2196, p0303, p0012, p2197, and p2272. since then I've changed all the spark plugs, boots, swapped all the coils and injectors from a great running truck, fuel filter, and the bank 1 upstream O2 sensor.
the other thing that came to mind that could of caused the problem is that a few days before the problem started. I jump started a co-workers car and he hooked the cables up backwards on his car. Could this be the cause of the problems I'm having.
The truck is an 05 F150 FX4 5.4 with 180,000 miles on it.
Is it true that a going from the OEM tire on the genII prius to larger 195/60/15 can cause or increase instability issues. I would think the point is to have wider tires to improve the stability...
View 10 RepliesI have had the check engine light on for a while now with the truck shuttering and bucking along with loss of power. Feels like there is something holding back the power. Just a couple days ago I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden it felt like I was in neutral, tried to accelerate but the engine revved but wouldn't go anywhere, I clicked the overdrive on and it went into gear and I was able to drive home. Now every time I drive it, it goes a block or two in drive then again feels like neutral, put in overdrive and it goes into gear. I just put in new ignition coils.
View 9 RepliesMy truck gear shift is stuck in Park (console type). I have been reading threads that discuss potential causes such as blown fuses, bad brake switch, bad brake shift interlock actuator, and even ignition switch. All fuses are okay. Before I try to get into all the other possibilities, I have a question around what the local auto parts worker suggested. He said that there is a small plastic piece that may have slipped down interfering with gear movement. This could make sense, especially since the white manual release lever doesn't seem to be moving.
