Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 1997 - Click Sound From Converter After Reinstall Engine?

I have just finished changing head gasket. I started up the engine works fine. But I hear a little clik sound form the converter. I put it in gear, but it can't move either forward or backward. It ran 2-3 liters of oil out of the converter when I took the engine out. I have filled new oil in the gearbox but not in the converter, dosnt it came form the gearbox into the converter?Is there air in the converter or what's wrong?

it is a F150 4x4 4.6 1997 automatic.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2003 - Got Code U1262 - Random Misfire?

I have a 03 F150 with a bi-fuel 5.4 engine an it has 195000 miles. I have had trouble for some time now with misfires. I bought the truck in october of 2011 with 125000 miles and replaced all the coils and spark plugs because it was misfiring badly will running on CNG. It was fine on gasoline and never had any codes. After I replaced the plugs and coils it ran fine on CNG and gasoline.

This summer 2013 it began missing badly at highway speeds only when running on CNG. If I accelerated the miss would go away until I was light on the throttle again.I checked the misfire count and found the bad cylinder and replaced a coil. Then a day later same thing on another cylinder. I swapped a coil from another cylinder and problem went away for a day. Eventually I chased the misfire around all the cylinders on the engine until I had ended up either replacing a spark plug or swapping a coil on all the cylinders. And I still had a misfire. It seemed to be worse on days with temperatures above 90 degrees. Eventually I got it to stop misfiring.

So now 5 months later I am back again with a misfire. This time it is misfiring on both gasoline and CNG and under any throttle conditions, except coasting. I have no codes. And the misfire monitor is sending me around the engine again. I have replaced a spark plug in two cylinders and swapped 4 coils.
I'm ready to buy all new coils, but I want to be sure that it is not a waste of money since the old ones only have 70000 miles on them.
Two days ago I had the misfire monitor saying #4 in the evening and the next day without me having done any work on it it was saying #6. Later that same day it said #7 and I still hadn't done anything other than drive the truck.

I checked the connections at the firewall on the drivers side with the three large plugs that are held in with a 10mm bolt, they looked fine, no corrosion or burnt pins. I checked the connection at the ACFM which also looks good. I will check the connection at the PCM in the next day or so.

Some other problems that may be contributing:
1. I occasionally get a U1262 code (scp fault)
2. Sometimes when I check the misfire monitor it only shows 7 cylinders, sometime 9 cylinders. I am using an Innova 3160 scanner.
3. I have either a leaking valve cover gasket or leaking head gasket, because I have oil dripping from the rear bottom corner of the passenger side cylinder head right above the exhaust pipe.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2003 - Running Sluggish Even Replaced Plugs / Cops And Cleaned MAF Sensor?

I've tried everything I can think of and it still runs sluggish.

1. Had dealer change plugs
2. Changed Cop's
3. Cleaned MAF sensor

The 5.4L has slight miss and doesn't respond well at all when trying to pass or going uphills.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2003 F150 Cranks But Won't Start

This has happened twice in 3 years....I get regular service from a Ford dealer and am overdue.... I think it may be temp related. Has been below freezing the last few nights. Truck was parked on an incline during the last two "shutdowns" ( engine lower than bed slightly), I drifted to a level position and it started. This has only happened twice previously. Now it seems to be a permanent problem but I am unable to get to the dealer without a tow... which I am trying to avoid.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2003 4x4 - Tranny Doesn't Engage

I have a 03 4x4 5.4lt supcab with 154k miles. I replaced the shift motor about 40,000 ago but it has always been tempormental like I had to engage it in 4lo in N and then shift to 4hi to keep it in 4hi. Now fast forward to today. Went to shift to 4lo in N and it didn't shift. I only heard the relays click once and then it wouldn't shift into any gear even though the indicator was on PRND123. Didn't matter.

Also, Park didn't engage and the speedometer acted like it was engaged in RN and D. No movement what so ever. I think it might be the shift motor that shifted part way and is stuck in between gears. Is this possible? I drove fine to the dirt road and I haven't had problems other then the shift motor being touchy. I don't want to pay for a new tranny if it might be the shift motor.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: A/C Won't Take Charge?

I have an 03 F150 that I put a 4bt 3.9 cummins diesel in a couple years back. I'm just now working on ac issues. I have custom lines built and have a new drier in it. I am uncertain of the location of the expansion valve. I have not found a diagram of where that would be. It is a supercrew so it has the large condenser and I don't remember seeing the expansion valve/filter in that line when it was apart.

So I pulled full vacuum on the system and let it set for over an hour and it held the full vacuum. I plugged the Freon to it and it pulled just a small amount into the system. with the vehicle off it registered about 90lbs on both high and low with just the one can attached. I closed high side and jumped the ac pressure switch and it dropped to about 30 lbs on low side, but would move back up to 90lbs when I turned compressor off. It would not pull anymore out of the can. Do I have a plugged filter somewhere?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Oil In Radiator?

Just like the title says oil In my rad! Anyway here's what I've seen....I noticed that I've been having to put oil in my truck more often than I need to. I thought maybe I was leaking somewhere but I wasn't. So then I thought I was burning it but no smoke. So then I was reading on this forum and someone mentioned oil in the rad. So I checked and it was pretty black in color so I figure that's what the problem is. My question is would it be a head gasket or intake? I also read a quote from Moto Mel on here that it could be some kind of adapter that is located on the lower left side of the motor that has o rings that can go bad and cause this?The milage on my truck is 145000 and running great (other than this). No overheating or anything.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: OD Drops Out At 57 Mph?

I have had several issues getting to where I am now. The Neutral safety switch (MLPS) is new. The tranny has been rebuilt with new TC installed as well. The truck shifts out fin 1-2-3-4 until I hit 57mph. At 57 the od drops out and will not reengage until I drop down below that speed. I ran a diagnostic test on the TPS with my multi-meter and it all was in range on the voltages and was smooth through throttle movement etc.

I have a 2003 Ford F150 XLT 5.4 V8 with about 131,000 on it. The 4wd does not work at all. You move the electronic switch no light in the dash no click at the actuator motor no nothing. I took the switch on the dash off and from the dark blue wire I am getting 11.5 volts from there constant.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Blowing Hot Air Only?

I have a 97 f150 4.2L 5 Speed that is only blowing hot air. A/C lines are cold when A/C is on, but coming out of vents hot. When I turn the temp selector, on cold the air is warm to hot, but when turned to hot, it gets a lot hotter. Not sure how Fords operate (left my Chevy behind and got a ford). Blend door, thermostat, vacuum line, or actuator? Where to begin? Radiator and cooling system full with no air in lines and no leaks. Hope it's nothing too big.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2004 - ABS On For A While?

...so since I have the truck (2004 F150 Heritage XL longbed V6 120k) up for sale I replaced the sensor in the differential today and the ABS light was still on so I took it to Advance Auto Parts so they could pull up the codes. The two that came up were C1237 - rear wheel speed sensor and C1095 - hydraulic pump motor. Isn't the rear wheel speed sensor the thing I replaced? Then why is the code still coming up? I'm not sure what the hydraulic pump motor is or where it's at so do I need to replace it or is there another way to get the idiot light to go off? I would replace it if it's not too expensive. Also, I removed the negative battery cable to see if that made any difference and it didn't.

My rpm guage seems to be working fine. I thought it might be the speed sensor/output sensor on the trans but it shifts fine so I dunno anymore?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Codes Came On Again - MAF?

1997 f 150 4x4 5.4 right now has a 145k miles.

About a year and half ago (120kmiles) the check engine light came on, checked the codes; 1 left bank to lean. 2 right bank to lean. Cleared the codes drove for about 3 weeks and the light came back on same codes, cleared the codes, drove for about 3 weeks and the light came back on, this continued with shorter times between the light coming on. Did this until sept 2012 took it in and Ford replaced the MAF, all good until today Jan.8, 2014. The light came on today I checked the codes 1 left bank to lean. 2 right bank to lean, cleared the codes today, the light staying off for right now. My best guess is that the MAF is again bad, my question is; how long does a MAF last, why would it fail in just over a year? What can I do to make the the MAF last longer.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 4x4 Light Won't Come On At All?

I have a 1997 Ford F150 4x4 4.6L extended cab with 180000 miles. Rusty but trusty. Now I have a different issue. The 4x4 light will not come on at all when in 4 hi or 4 low in with the transmission in nuetral. The things I have done are check every single fuse the truck has, all are in working order. I have replaced the shifter switch with a known working used one, no luck. When I turn the I hear clicking from the relay in the middle of the dash, but the 4x4 light does not come on. The front driveshaft is able to be spun when I have the in the 4 hi or 4 lo position.

I have pulled the GEM module out to see if I had the dreaded windshield leak issue, and it appears that all connections look great, and there does not appear to be any burn marks on the circuitry. I also tested to see if the vacuum solenoids were getting the correct signals. It only stays on 2 wheel vacuum (by testing the ground connection to the solenoids), it does not switch when I turn. So at this point I am under the belief that I have an issue with the transfer case shift motor or something related, and that when it does not work, it does not give the signal to the vacuum solenoids to switch or allow the 4x4 light to come on. If I am correct, how do I test to see what is the issue at the transfer case?
