I bought a 2003 F-150 Lariat, 4.8L 4x2 about a week ago. Everything worked great at first, now I have this hissing/air coming from the dash. It happens while the truck is on, no matter if parked, driving, etc.. Ac/heater on or off, noise is still there. I have not yet taken the dash apart to see if i can pinpoint this noise. To better explain it is almost as if the air or heat is on and really low.
View 2 RepliesWell, I don't know what else it could be but the noise my truck was making is not the flexplate as suspected. I can hear it from the bottom of the motor or transmission, but can't discern which it is coming from. Laying on the ground under the truck when it's running, it doesn't sound like it's really coming from either or. I have the transmission pulled back so I am going to replace the rear main, and maybe the pan gasket since I'm down there. What else it could be?

I just bought a 99 f150. Its in great shape only 65000 on it but there is a hissing swooshing sound when turning the wheel... not really any brake sounds. The truck has been maintained and I dont see any leeks in the ps system hoses. I didn't know anything about the atf fluid in the truck... and I haven't added either ps or atf fluid to it. I'm wondering if that is maybe something the dealer i bought it from did. or maybe one of the shops the previous owner did. Would ps fluid cause these kinds of sounds? Do I need a flush of the system.. How to do that.

View 2 RepliesI already have my suspicions, since my wife's GMC did the same exact thing a few months ago. I hear a slight hissing noise from my dash, when running my A/C. I took the system off AUTO, to see if it was caused by the automated venting system, but it kept doing it. I have noticed it the past week, and its becoming a little more pronounced. System still blows cold. It does seem that it takes the truck longer to get cool in the afternoons lately, but it might be due to it being so hot lately.
My wife's car did the same thing and blew cold air for a while....until the hissing became constant and very loud. Turned out, she had a leak from one of the hoses. Dealer replaced it, and find ever since. I'm thinking my system has likely developed a leak and has reduced system refrigerant pressure. Any other possibilities?
I have a darn gurgling noise behind the dash! Now I have read different things on this, it has been doing this for awhile, like as in about 4 months or more. Any way I've read head gasket, air in the system and heater core! Now I did have a t-stat problem. But I fixed that, it was about a week ago. But the noise was there before that! It doesn't overheat and the heat works good! Also I see no water in the oil or anything. By the way it is a 97 F150 4.6 extended cab. It runs fine it's just when I step on the gas it does this. It has me baffled right now....

Some weeks ago a noise started that sounded like fan blades striking against heavy plastic fan guard. At first I thought it was coming from the transmission/Transfer case area but after a few weeks of listening to I now believe it's coming from behind the dash area, however, I can't find any reason for it be from there.
The noise usually starts around 45 MPH
I checked the heater fan and it appears to be Okay. I don't know of any other fans in that area.
I am working on this 97 F150 with the EOTF. It is not doing anything. When i turn the key on, no light on the dash comes on. When i operated the 4wd switch, nothing happens, no lights on the dash, no relay clicks or transfer case noise, etc. It has a new t case motor, the switch tests out good. I have researched for a while, and either find people with different symptoms or the original poster never updated with what the fix was. I am unsure where to go at this point, i am suspect of the GEM or the t case relay, but don't want to go replacing stuff without a basis for going so. Ive tested for voltage at the switch as well and it has 5 volts at pin 3.
View 13 RepliesAfter searching for the Prius that I wanted, I settled on a 2008 Prius Touring with 171xxx miles. The car was at a sales lot 300 miles away. After a few phone calls pertaining to the Prius, I arranged to meet the lot owner roughly 1/2 way in between for the purchase. We met. Owner said that several dash lights came on as they were driving to meet me. (Yes, I believe him.) He talked with his mechanic, and was told that the problem was most likely the ABS control module (p/n 44510-47050). Owner agreed to shipping me a good used ABS module and discounted the vehicle a bit. I drove it home.
The brake, (!), ABS, and VSC lights are "on"when the car is in the "ready" mode. The parking brake is not on. When I walk up to the car (with SKS fob in my pocket) and open the door, I hear a noise that sounds like water running through an outside faucet that's only partially opened. For identification purpose, I will refer to this noise as a "hissing" noise. When in "ready" mode , the ABS system "cycles", with about 4 seconds hissing, then about 10 seconds not hissing, repeated over and over.
In ready mode (under the hood), the inverter pump is humming away just fine, and the coolant can be seen flowing in it's reservoir. My biggest question is that I have read about others with the unwanted dash lights, but not any with this hissing noise. Does the ABS module replacement sound like it will most likely cure the problem?
And btw, after disconnecting both batteries and waiting for the proper time period, is it really necessary to use the insulated gloves? Years ago, I used Toyota repair manuals, and after receiving the Haynes manual, I'm a bit disappointed.
The last couple days my truck (1997 f150 4.6l) has been having starting issues. At first it would just turn over and not start then the battery would die. So i bought a new battery and yesterday now its starts sometimes but when trying to start it while its ttuning over it stops then starts turning and starts up. Then i drive wherever I am going when i get back in to start there's nothing.
Its not turning over at all but when i turn the key there is a loud single knocking noise coming from behind the dash near the passenger floor vent. Actually there ate two noise from the same area, one when i initially trun the key and another when i release the key. But after just sitting there doing this it will finally turn over and start. What this is, there are no codes being thrown besides my dreaded P0401 which i cant seem to get rid of either. Ive changed every part that has to do with the egr system and cleaned the throttle body replaced vacuum lines and still the code.
When I accelerate a strange noise appears to be coming from the passenger dash.
Sounds like some kind of baffle or low rumble sound it only does make the noise under acceleration.
At work we have a 04 Passat 4motion wagon that has a strange noise coming from behind the dash. The best way I can describe the noise is like computer hard drive loading. It happens continuously even when the radio/cd player is on.

View 4 RepliesTwice this happened today. When I inserted the ignition key, strange noise occurred under the dash. It sounds like some actuators or motors are being activated. When I turned on ignition, there was nothing, like the battery was dead. I had to wait until all these noises stopped, about 1 minutes, before I could start the car. After the car is started, I noticed that the avg mpg and the time on the trip computer had been reset. This almost sounds like the onboard computer was being rebooted. The terminals on the battery were checked to be very tight.
View 4 RepliesI've been fixing things here and there (hub bearing, struts, etc.). My latest repair is the water pump, it was howling for a few seconds during cold starts; I just replaced it today, hopefully this unit lasts for a long time.
A few days ago, I noticed this hissing noise after I turn the engine off at normal temp. Since there was a leak from the radiator drain, I thought that was it and didn't care about it. I just installed a new o-ring on the drain cock along with the new water pump. Test drove the car and it turns out the noise is still there, is it normal or not, I didn't put much attention before.
The noise can be heard from underneath and above the engine, it kinda seems to be coming from the intake BUT I find it weird since I installed a new upper intake manifold in november of 2013. It's a Dorman unit and I followed all the instructions from the kit and the workshop manual. Lower intake manifold gaskets were replaced back in november 2009 after the engine was rebuilt because of a cracked head (not sure what type did the mechanic use, back then I didn't know much about repairs). It's hard to believe that these gaskets have failed already. I also replaced the coolant elbow almost two years ago after the belt tensioner assembly failed.
I have strange rubbing and whumping noises coming from underneath my truck. Yesterday I changed the old e-brake and lines, thought it my be rubbing on the wheel. Today I changed the front and rear axle u-joint and rear pinion seal. The front u-joint was ceased and the pinion seal was leaking. I thought this would cure it but the noise is still there , the noise is more pronounced when I make a turn. Besides that the truck runs perfect. This summer I changed all 4 rotors, calipers and pads and ball joints , shocks and muffler. Tomorrow I will jack the front up and check the front, where the noise would coming from.

I have a Stock 02 f350 7.3 with 66,000 miles ... I'm sure this has been covered plenty if times, but I notice more so on cold days (-20 to 30). My truck after starting and even letting it warm up for a period of time makes a hissing sound from the passenger side of the cab near the dash/glove box area, Like I said I've only really noticed it on cold days ... It usually occurs between 1200 and 1800 rpm and it's a very touchy noise, for example I only really hear it when I'm cruising at a consistent speed, if I get on the gas a little it goes away till I bring it back to consistent throttle cruising then it comes back, same goes for when I let off the gas it goes away until I give it a steady consistent throttle again ....
View 7 RepliesI have a 2004 Eddie Bauer Expedition. We noticed a few weeks ago that the A/C was not cooling like it used to, and now it does not cool at all. No cold air from either the front vents or the rear system.
Tonight it is 65 degrees ambient and the clutch is cycling about every 8 seconds. Every time it cycles I hear a hissing/rushing water sound under the passenger-side dashboard.
Is there's anything that I can check myself, or if I need to take it to a mechanic. I can do basic part replacement but am not qualified enough to take apart a charged system.
I got a 2003 5.4L Auto F-250 Super-duty CC yesterday and noticed it needed newer/new tires. I found some today and got them put on. I looked when the tires were off and all the tie rods, brakes, etc looked good. After leaving the tire shop the check engine light came on, I drove about 10kms on the hwy and it seemed fine then I got into town and made a stop.
When I was leaving there to go home I heard something that sounded like a chain dragging for a second then when I braked at lights the truck started jumping kind of so I pulled over and everything still looked fine. So I drove another 5kms and it was fine except for 1-2 lights it happened again, the brakes would squeal when stopping.
Then when accelerating from a light the truck would shake and make scraping noises until I hit about 30kms per hour, this happened whenever I heard the squealing at the few stops I had to do at lights. Some lights I stopped at and it was normal. The tires that were on the truck originally were mismatched, different sized and smaller than the stock size. The ones I put on are all the same set, and are 265-75-R16. what this could be?
Ok I have had this noise going on for about 1 week before transmission went out. I just built the trans and its still there.
I had a mishap years back with front end hub bearings so I replaced with New Timken Bearings. Well that wasn't it but at least I know where I
stand with those. It starts making a noise when slowing down about 3-5 seconds before coming to a stop. I thought maybe the carrier bearing in
driveshaft?
Pinion bearing in rear diff? I need to service the parking brakes on rear so I may pull it down and go through it.
