My 1997 f150 when I put her in drive the speedometer goes up to aproxx 36 mph and stays there no matter what I do or how fast I drive and then slowly falls back to zero when I shut the truck down. Where can I start, I had someone look at it years ago and the said the cluster was bad. I use my GPS to tell me the speed I am going, everything else works in the cluster.

I already change the Speed Sensor (VSS), and the Transmission Speed Sensor. (Attach Files for References).
What can be wrong? Maybe the Speedometer Instrument Cluster? My car is a Hyundai Accent 2003 Auto Transmission.
I have an 03 f150 5.4, it runs fine, shifts fine and will get up to speed. I can go over 40 but the speedo will only work until i get to 40 and then it just stays there. My rpm guage seems to be working fine. I thought it might be the speed sensor/output sensor on the trans but it shifts fine so I dunno anymore?

View 2 RepliesTRUCK- 1997 F-150 4x4 5.4L 180,000 miles ( great truck ) The ABS light came on yesterday and wont go off. I checked all the wires I could see from under thr truck (looked good). Then I replaced the rear diff abs sensor, no luck. The omhs on the old one was 1200 and i guess that is in range. The light comes on when I start along with the 4x4 and low range light the 4x4 and low light go off and ABS flickers and comes right back with the truck still in park. Where are the front wheel sensors and how hard are they to get at? Can they be tested , fixed, or replaced from a junkyard?

View 4 RepliesMy speedometer has not been working for months now and it really hasn't bothered me as I go by RPMs, but I am going to make a long trip in a few weeks and I wanted to try to get this fixed.
The speedometer flips over to 100 mph and rest on the opposite side as it should. When I accelerate it does not move until I get over about 35 mph where it will then flip to 86 mph. It will slowly move to 82 mph as I accelerate up until 75, where it will then no longer change. Every once in a while it will start working when I start the truck up, or when I am driving down the road. It has before, within a 30 minute time frame, started working and stopped working 6 times. Currently my ABS light is on, but it has been on long before this started occurring. Every other gauge on my dash works.
I drive a 5 speed manual V6 2003 Ford F150.

View 10 RepliesSo yesterday i got my windshield tinted at a shop and now im having issues. My ac stays on when the key is out of the ignition i can use all settings from low to high. My windshield wipers only work in neutral and park. Im calling them when they open but i think the water they spray on the tint got down in the dash and fried something.

View 14 RepliesMy 2001 F150 has the ABS light on. I can startup and it runs thru the continuity test, light off, in park, no problem. Push on the brake pedal, no problem. Put it in gear and the light comes on, before you start to roll. Should mean its not the speed pickups, i checked them for ohms and 5 volt supply to each. I ran the scanner and got P0703 on the extended codes.
That normally means bad pressure switch on the brake booster. I knew that would effect cruise control and external leaks can be a problem, but could that be related to the 703 code ? Both "brake" related ? I am tempted to buy a switch and install. I do have the factory recall harness on the switch. And check for continuity thru the switch. Has continuity, but only a few ohms, not sure what it should be.
I might have a chance to pick up an 1997 F150 with a 4.6 pretty cheap. He has replaced the ignition switch and lock cylinder, Says it keeps turning over until you put in in gear. In my experience a solenoid that is sticking wont stop until you disconnect the battery, just wondering what people think it might be? I am thinking I will just put a push button stater to make it work if its a wiring issue.

View 2 Replies1997 F-150 XLT Extended cab. 4.6L VIN 6, 5 speed manual, 4x4. Replaced speed sensor on transfer case, speedometer is not completely dead but bounces around. Seems to be about 10 mph below actual speed. When I come to a stop say at a red light speedometer drops to zero at about 20 mph or so. Cruise also inop. It seems like whenever I let off the gas to stop or shift gears the speedometer drops down but then goes back up but not to the right speed. It has the mechanical odometer by the way. Everything else seems to be working fine. New speed sensor did not come with the plastic gear so I had to reuse the old one. Not sure if that gear was bad or not, but it was the pink one if that matters.
View 6 RepliesI just got a 2001 f150 supercrew 4x4. Speedometer started cutting in and out. Just the speedo needle cuts in and is accurate for a long while then jumps up 10mph then goes back to accurate speed then cuts out and needle goes to zero for a bit then comes back on to accurate speed.
Just the speedo needle is the problem the trip meter and odometer and all other gauges on the cluster works just fine. Do I need a new cluster? Wouldn't be a speed sensor? Speed sensor would just cut off and would affect the odometer too wouldn't it?
I changed the rear end on my buddies 2003 f150 and now the speedometer is 15 mph fast I was wondering if there is a way for me to calibrate the speedometer..
View 1 RepliesI recently purchased a 2000 F150 Regular Cab Work Series with the 4.2 V6 4x4 and an automatic transmission. It has what seems to be an electrical issue where the speedometer and gauges come in and out seemingly at random. All of my fuses are good with the exception of Fuse 1 in the fuse box under the steering wheel, which will blow every time I put a new one in. It seems like there is a short in the wiring for the radio? However Fuse 1 is supposed to control only the audio, and I'm not sure why that would be an issue with the gauges.
When they come on, everything seems to work just fine. Also, even when they go out and I have the headlights on, both the gauges and the car stereo will be backlit with the green glow.
When I turn put the key in the run position, the gauges will come on and remain on for a random amount of time after I start the engine, then will go out and come on at random. When the gauges go out so will my check engine light (code P0460).
today all of the sudden my ford f150 5.4 liters speedometer started to not work and the airbag light came on while it was having trouble shifting! the windshield wipers don't work as well! checked all fuses! after messing around with smacking things under the hood it started to shift right but has a glitch in the electrical and it sounds like it's trying to start( this is while it's running) it's all glitchy...
View 4 RepliesI just got my truck back from the tranny shop 3 days ago,was driving down the hiway looked down and my speedo went from 65 to 0 instantly. it was driving fine till i exited then started reving and not shifting till about 3000 rpms. So i changed the sensor on the rear end and the vss on the transfer case but no results.
