View 7 Replies2001 F150, 5.4L gas, 4wd, stock, 217k miles, auto trans. Bought it used about 4 years back.
Currently away from home base. Left Saturday for a 600+ mile trip. All fluid levels are good. Truck has been reliable. No major issues other than an alarm malfunction a while back which got sorted.
About 90 miles into the trip down the highway, the service engine light comes on. Hmm. At the next fuel stop I tanked up. Started and it was a bit rough the first few seconds and then settled. Seemed to have an engine noise I had not heard before.
Pulled over in the station and popped the hood. Oil good. Coolant fine. Power steering fine. Listening to it I could definitely hear an unusual sort of "ghost" like sound. Hard to describe. Sort of like a low "woooooo." It was low, but definitely there and not normal. Could be unrelated to the engine light. Pulling out of the station the sound varied and got louder with slight acceleration. Possibly beginning of an accessory bearing meltdown?
No acceleration or dying issues. Got back on the highway and kept on trucking for 600+ miles. No running issues. No shifting issues. Ghost noise not noticed at highway speeds.
The power steering pump is probably in need of replacement at this point with this mileage. It does drip slightly, but not a lot. It may be the original pump for all I know. Same with the water pump.
The alternator was replaced last year with a Bosch unit. I have never replaced the O2 sensors. Stock exhaust. Spark plugs were replaced a while back with Motorcraft platinums.
It is now Sunday night and I went out to listen for the sound, and it is not there anymore, but the service engine light is still on. First things to check with a truck that has 217k miles on it?
Was tempted to bring it to the dealer here, but it seems to be running ok in spite of the light coming on. So I may leave it until I get back home and check it more myself then. Can't do much here since I don't have my tools/service manuals etc with me.
The Service Engine Soon light has come on on my 2000 F-150 with a 4.6L when I was driving home in the rain. It has about 120,000 miles on it now. What are some of the main reasons why this comes on? Oxygen Sensors?
View 14 RepliesI have a 1999 F-150 w/ 4.2 V6. and auto trans, truck has 219,000 miles on chassis but only 25,000 on engine and 10,000 on trans. I've been getting obd codes p0705 and p0715. I replaced the position sensor on outside of trans. but I continue to get the codes off and on again. I noticed that the O/D "OFF" light on the shift selector blinks simultaneously when the "service engine soon" light comes on. I've noticed that there is no low gear unless I have it in D from a dead stop, and not even when downshifting manually.
View 1 RepliesThe Service Engine Soon light is on in my 2001 F-150. I checked the code and got PO156 generic O2; circuit (bank 2, sensor 2). What are the most common things I should look at? The truck appears to be running fine, no driveability issues.
View 5 RepliesMy Service Engine Soon light came on early last week and I got the code P0442- Evaporative Emission: System leak detected (small leak).
What are the most probable things I should look at?
I have a 2002 f150 4.2 code p0340, ran rough, replaced cam sensor. drove after replacing and it runs fine now, code and service engine light comes on after restarting. from what i have read could this be a wiring problem?
View 4 Replies2001 F150 5.4L Triton Motor. Everything seemed o.k. then got the Engine Service Light. Checked with reader and above codes only appeared. Read numerous articles/videos and pulled the PCV hose/boot assembly and replaced the whole thing with oem part. Visually checked for disconnected tubing = none found. After this and with the new hose assembly in place I performed a reset. With the scanner still connected restarted engine and read values: ST FTRM1&2 = -.08~+2.3, both oxygen sensor voltages are varying and the LT FTRM1&2 hang around +26 and +28.
From what I understand the ST seems o.k. but the long term is WAY OUT OF WHACK. Started it up again and took carb cleaner spray and covered all the connections I could see = no change in engine rpm. No cracks in the air cleaner body. Big plug to the MAF was inserted and plugging the hole. I am thinking of making a smoke "machine" and trying that or removing the hoses from the throttle body and plugging the holes in the throttle body and see if that clears them up. IF it does then connect one by one and keep checking the values. Lot more work but I am at a loss.
Last week my service engine light came on. Friend checked it with his code reader. Got a P0402 code insufficient flow EGR valve. I have read several different threads on this subject on another Ford truck forum, slightly confusing me. Should I trust the code and just replace the EGR valve or do a number of other things that
1. Clean the throttle body first?
2. Test the EGR valve by blanking it off?
3. Test the DPFE valve?
4. Replace the DPFE valve instead of the ERG valve since the EGR valve rarely goes bad?
5. Only get OEM parts since after market parts do not last?
I have a 2000 f150 with 198,000 miles. The lite on the dash came on, "service engine soon" , I had the codes read and they said the coils are going bad.
View 2 RepliesI have a little more detail on when the truck starts and does not . I have gone out the past two days and put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position and all the lights come on except Service Engine Soon light and truck will not start. I bought a ceramic electric heater and placed it on the floor directing the heat under the dash. after ten to fifteen minutes I go out and put the key in the ignition turn the key to the on position and the service engine soon light is on and the truck starts right up. I let it warm up for about a half hour and then shut it off. I then try to start it right back up and the service engine soon light comes on momentarily then goes off and the truck does not start?
View 5 RepliesMy trucks symptoms include a illuminated service engine soon light, sometimes a high rpm idle, and sometimes a rough erratic idle. When a scan was done it indicated the oxygen sensor was defective. The issue is: which specific one (there are multiple oxygen sensors) or how could I check or determine the faulty one for sure. I am trying to economize and replace only the bad one myself if possible. I own a good multimeter, can it determine the bad one? 1999 F-150 4.2 Litre V6 oxygen sensor dillemna....
View 7 RepliesSo i replaced the faulty injector and the truck starts up great and runs great. The only issue is that now when i accelerate, the SES light comes on until i let it up a little. If i am at cruising speed or just a steady speed the light goes off. I havent checked for codes yet because the light didnt stay on. I have AE and know how to use most of it. Is there something i should be looking at? Could it have something to do with the Blue/Gray CPS i installed or maybe there could still be an air bubble in the oil rail from when i drained the rail ? I have a DP tuner and stage-1 injectors. Regardless it sure is nice to have my truck back out on the road. It was a horrible 3 weeks without it.
View 14 RepliesLight came on a few days ago. 2000 exc with 7.3 diesel the mileage report said 155000. Took it to Autozone a hour ago and these are the codes: P0683, P0676 and P1670.
View 14 RepliesThe SES light in my 2001 7.3 came on about a month ago while I was towing a light trailer in the SoCal mountains. When I got home I spent about 2 weeks replacing the injector o-rings and glow plugs. I discovered while I was in there that the head bolts on the driver's side where loose. I retorqued them to spec.
Both batteries were disconnected for the 2 weeks. When I started the truck the SES light was still on.
My Torque Pro app isn't showing any error codes, and is reading live data correctly. (I didn't have the app when the light first came on; I only purchased it after I finished the repairs). Am I missing something? Is the SES light not necessarily connected to fault codes? If so, wouldn't it reset after 2 weeks with the batteries disconnected?
I have a 2001 F350 and my service engine soon light came on. For a while it went on and off and every time it came on the engine ran rough and I lost some power. I pulled the valve covers and checked the UCVH and everything was fine that I can tell I even made the shims out of quarters and put them in. After putting it all back together its still doing the same thing.
View 1 RepliesYesterday afternoon the "Service Engine Soon" light turned on in our '97 Town & Country (3.8L engine). A few minutes later (while I headed to Autozone to get the code read) the light went out. They were still able to retrieve 2 codes: P0700 and P1775. Internet searches suggest a possible bad solenoid pack for the transmission.
More background: The van has 161,000 miles, and the original owners got the transmission replaced at 40,000 miles under warranty (4 speed automatic). The transmission fluid was replaced (pan drop method) at about 153,000 miles and at 112,000 miles, etc., with Chrysler ATF +4 fluid. The van got new plugs and wires about 15,000 miles ago. (It also got a new radiator and hoses yesterday morning which I think is unrelated.) Another possible clue: On long trips sometimes the 2nd transmission shift will become slightly rough but it still shifts and after it has rested everything returns to normal. This occasional shifting issue has been going on for over 5 years and again when it manifests itself it is very slight.
my 2003 f-250 4x4 6.0 engine service light stays on all the time (for about 2 weeks now) it has 33,323 miles on it. it is running fine-no problems yet. no codes are showing up on a diagnostic test. What is going on?
View 10 RepliesI was on the way back from the weekend trip and got a service engine soon light. I didn't notice any lack of power, rough idle or hard starting cold or hot. So we pushed on home. I checked the codes and it is the P1211.
Doing some research it seems the ICP is not as expected so I hooked up my phone with the Torque app and the IPR and ICP seem to be close to normal at idle and running. I din't see any high IPR %.
At idle the IPR was around 15.5 cold and 10.1 after a short run to the store and back when it warmed up a bit. ICP was around 690-720 cold and 470-490 when i got back.
Does that seem like normal readings? I cleared the codes and the CEL comes back on right away after starting the truck. I do have a TS performance chip that I will take out and see if that could be causing any problems. What else should I be looking into?
On my 7.3 super cab, I changed the fuel filter last Friday and now on cold start the service engine soon light comes on for a couple minutes (approximately) on a cold start. No other issues. Tried scanning with my scan gauge 2 and no codes. (of coarse I think that thing is a joke for scanning). Not sure if this means anything, but last week before I changed the filter I thought I smelled diesel fuel on a couple different occasions. If I actually did it may not even be related.
View 2 RepliesI've got a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero that will not start.
The only thing that happens is when the key is in the ACC position the light "service engine soon" comes on. When I try to start it the light goes off and nothing happens at all. Now I've realized the lights don't work, power windows, radio or anything. This morning my keyless entry worked before getting in my car and trying to start it but now it doesn't. It seems like I've blown a fuse but I can't find any that look blown. I don't have a light meter to be 100% sure however.
