I reprogrammed my computer, to get rid of a bad tune with the Ford Program. After reprogramming, and entering in my tire size/gear size my speedometer and odometer no longer work. Also my overdrive light is flashing. Does this truck have a PSOM and could that be bad? What else could cause the problem, it definitely happened when it was flashed. Whats the cheapest way to fix it?
View 9 RepliesI have a 1997 f150 4.6L 4x4 Standard Transmission and today I hopped in it to go to work, and the Speedo, Trip Odometer, and Odometer all are not working.
This is the first time it has happened to me, what could cause this or have a problem similar to this and know how to fix it?
1999 f-250 7.3 diesel. Speedometer doesn't work and neither does the odometer, the ABS light stays on and once you start driving the OD light starts flashing and the truck starts shifting weird. I've changed the rear ABS/VSS sensor on the diff and the OSS on top of the transmission at the tail end. Still no luck.....
View 5 Replies1997 F-150 XLT Extended cab. 4.6L VIN 6, 5 speed manual, 4x4. Replaced speed sensor on transfer case, speedometer is not completely dead but bounces around. Seems to be about 10 mph below actual speed. When I come to a stop say at a red light speedometer drops to zero at about 20 mph or so. Cruise also inop. It seems like whenever I let off the gas to stop or shift gears the speedometer drops down but then goes back up but not to the right speed. It has the mechanical odometer by the way. Everything else seems to be working fine. New speed sensor did not come with the plastic gear so I had to reuse the old one. Not sure if that gear was bad or not, but it was the pink one if that matters.

I have replaced abs senor on the rear of transmission and on the rear end.both new and just replaced abs module just the computer not the pump that was used . And abs light, overdrive light are still on and the speedometer is still not working ..

I will be driving along and all of a sudden the digital odometer readout will go blank and the speedometer will drop to 0 if I was going 60 mph or below or to 120 if I was going over 60 mph.
Where do I start troubleshooting?

View 12 RepliesI just picked up an 01 F150 2wd for my daughter. I've noticed that the light up odometer has no illumination when the headlights are off, and when I turn the headlights on (to illuminate the gauges) I get just the faintest bit of light of the numbers of the odometer. It's so dim that unless it's nearly dark outside you can barely even tell it's lit up. The dimmer dial for the gauges is turned all they way up to max before the dome light comes on.
The LCD display for the odometer wouldn't use a traditional filament style bulb for light, so I'm at a loss right now.
My 4 wheel drive is not engaging on a 2001 F150. The indicator lites on the dash illuminate to suggest that the truck is in 4 wheel drive but sigh...it stays in 2 wheel drive. No gross sounds and the indicator lights are not flashing. Could this be a fuse or a relay issue of some sort. What else should I try?

View 4 RepliesThe odometer light turns on and off (mostly off) and seems to be getting worse. The repair shop I go to said its a dealer item and they usually send them out to a specialized shop, the dealer said replace instrument cluster. I may not be the best but I would like to try a few things before I shell out the money. I read that it may simply be the connections at the Instrument cluster plugin which might just need cleaning, read another fix which involved Pencel soldering, Cold Solders on the instrument clusters circuit board.
View 2 RepliesJust hasn't been my luck lately guys. Last night was around 4 F out, taking a left at an intersection and lost power. Though it might be the TC kicking in as it was a bit icy out, but no indication of that on the dash. Then the "service engine" wrench showed up for a second on the display.
This was followed by the airbag light turning on, and the truck going into some kind of limp mode. The speedo indicated "0 MPH" though I was running about 2k RPMs in 5th.
My display showed this:
I couldn't force a downshift with the throttle, or get one from manual mode. I slowed down and pulled over at a safe place, shut the truck off and restarted. Hasn't happened since then.
My speedometer and odometer are not working, mechanic says it is because of a sensor he took the sensor out and showed it to me and I have pictures of it but can not find it anywhere. Also my car is a 2003 Hyundai elantra GLS
The picture attached is a picture of the sensor. What this sensor is called? Whenever I look up speed sensor or speedometer sensor it shows me something completely different. This one looks like it connects to the transmission too.
today all of the sudden my ford f150 5.4 liters speedometer started to not work and the airbag light came on while it was having trouble shifting! the windshield wipers don't work as well! checked all fuses! after messing around with smacking things under the hood it started to shift right but has a glitch in the electrical and it sounds like it's trying to start( this is while it's running) it's all glitchy...

And the speedo bounces, as it does, could it trigger the dreaded OD flashing light.
Yesterday I replaced the bulbs in my heater controls, today I have the Airbag light on, flashing 2/7. And when I turn off the passenger airbag, the "OFF" light does not come on. I've heard if the "OFF" light goes out, you replace the switch, would that possibly cause this code?

nothing changed on the truck except almost 3 inches of rain fell last night.
will AE tell me if the VSS is going bad?
Dashboard light is flashing. Sometimes it flashes sometimes it doesn't:no real pattern. It just started with no accident or jarring.

View 9 RepliesMy 2002 v10 4x4 with 103k is parked in my garage overnight so its toasty when i leave the house. But I've noticed when it sits out in the cold all day i'll get a intermittin ABS light. i left work one day at the first stop light i had a flashing ABS light. once the light turned green it went away and the system worked fine.
Last night the truck sat out in 5F weather, i remote started it so it was warm inside.. I left home and noticed about a mile down the road the ABS light came on and the speedo dropped, this lasted about 2 sec then came back no issue after that and the abs system is working just fine.
So, my question is what sensor would it be? I'm not 100% on how it works with the excursion. i know my explorer has a sensor in the rear axle and 2 sensors up front. i have not tryed pulling a code as the light doesn't stay..but i may throw the OBD2 reader in the console so i can try to catch it next time?
It is a 1997 Ford f150 5.4 4x4 extended cab 175k miles. Took a 600 mile trip, first 300 no problems, then the "od" light began flashing, the truck shifted fine so I kept going, drove for about a 100 miles then stopped for fuel and read the code, (p1728) cleared the code and drove another 200 miles, no light no problem. The whole time there was no drivability issues. Yesterday I drove all over town, stop and go traffic, locking the TC and it would also unlock, no problems all day, drivability was fine. What to do?
1. Just keep driving it?
2. Does changing fluid fix this problem?
3. Rebuild the trans, because this was just the first notice.
4. Sell it quick no light and drives fine.?
