When I open the doors, my dome light does not come on. How can i fix this? Also, my truck has cruise control, when i set it and it engages, no indicator light comes on on the dash. Is that normal?

View 1 RepliesI have a 2000 Excursion 7.3 and having problems right now because my Door Chime and Dome light dont work when the doors are open. But for some odd reason, when the rear door is open, the dome lights work. The 4 doors doesnt work yet the rear door does
The reason i want this is because i want to install an alarm and the door signal is needed and it is suppose to be tapped at the dome/chime so when the door is opened, the alarm will sound so it is not just relying on the Shock sensor.
Before you all say it, yes I have made sure that the "door" button has been pushed. The front done light will work when I turn on the individual map lights. However when I open the front doors they no longer automatically come on. I am going to bring it to the dealer ( I am assuming it is a faulty "door" switch) just wanted to see what you all thought before I bring it to them.

I am having strange electrical problems. This happens on an unpredictable basis but is getting more frequent (ie. use to be once every couple days and now is happening several times during my 24 mile drive to or from work).
After starting, the car door locks may automatically lock; however, a few seconds later they may lock again, and again.... This may happen 5-10 times in a row then it stops for 5 minutes or 2 days.
This week a new symptom showed up. The dome light came on while driving. It stayed on for a few seconds then went off. 5 seconds later the doors locked. This may or may not repeat. The light may stay on for 5 or 30 seconds always followed by the doors locking. It may repeat once or sever times in a row. I also noticed if I stepped on the brakes it turned off the dome light and then the doors locked but then it would likely start again. Turning on the headlights did not seem to have any effect.
We are camping and I'd like to leave dogs in car with back doors open but I don't see a way to turn off the interior lights. There must be a way, right? In my Expedition we could turn the little button next to the headlights switch to adjust brightness in the controls and speedometer and turn all the way til it clicks for off but doesn't work here.

Within the past month I have noticed that the interior dome lights and running board lights don't always come on when I open the doors. The dimmer switch is set to the highest level without being turned on and all of the dashboard lights work. I turn the dimmer switch on and sometimes the interior lights work and sometimes they don't. The door switch seems to be in good shape as well. If I turn the dome lights on individually they work so I know that there is not a problem with the bulbs. Where I can look for the problem?
View 3 RepliesI have a '00 Ford ranger and a '99 f-150 , when leaving the doors open , interior lights go off after 10-15 minutes in the ranger but not on my 150. Is there a relay or something aftermarket that makes this possible on the 150 ?
View 3 RepliesWe just bought a 2003 Windstar SE, the door ajar indicator is on on the dash all the time but the courtesy/dome lights don't come on with any of the doors open. The lights will come on manually with the headlight switch? I am pretty sure these are controlled by the GEM module.
View 11 RepliesIn hooking up a overhead DVD player it shorted out the Controlled Ground (Delay)(DOOR) Wire, now the dome light works still in the ON position but not in the AUTO position with the doors. It is very frustrating of a night when getting out and can't see. I'm not sure if it is a relay or a module that has gone bad and where it would be located. I know it's not a fuse because I have already check for that and I've checked the Controlled Ground Wire before it went bad and after with a meter.

View 1 RepliesMy buddies 01 Ex will shut off the dome light after a short time with any or all the doors open. My 02 Ex will never shut the dome light out unless all doors are closed.
I guess I'm headed for the override switch but wanted to confirm before if I did that there wasn't an issue with something other component.
I had a problem with my door ajar light always being on, I was able to find out that it was in the sensor for the back glass and was able to fix it. But now when I cut the explorer off and remove the keys the dome light comes on instantly even if no doors are opened and the lock/unlock button on the driver door won't work. However if I manually turn off the dome light my lock/unlock button starts working properly. Also if I do not manually turn the light of with the roll switch the light will stay on until the computer kills the power to it about 10 mins later. What could cause this??

View 2 Replies I have a 2004 F150 Screw Lariat and the problem is this: After turning of the truck, removing key from ignition and opening the door the following happens:
1. Radio stays on (will time out)
2. The power windows still work
3. The interior dome lights stay off
It's as if the door switches have been removed from the circuit. I've tried all doors. There are references to the GEM module but I didn't think there was one in this truck.
For the door switches, when the door is closed, the circuit is open, when the door is open the circuit is closed. I'm not sure what to check next. I checked some of the relays - auxilary delay relay, power relay etc etc. but I would think its a relay issue.
The door open signal is transmitted on the UBP network, no idea about that and they feed into the body control module - not sure where this is.
My dome light stays on and green when my doors are closed and the door button is pressed. They light up bright white and normal in use but don't completely turned off unless I unpress the door button...

Sometimes my daughter falls asleep and I want to open the door at night without the lights coming on... Or If the mosquitoes are going crazy I might want to turn off the light so I don't get killed... I know I can hold the switch to the right and it turns lights on with doors closed, and hold for a second to the left to turn off. But what about opening the door? I know my old 2007 was able to do this function...
View 13 RepliesI just bought a 2006 F250 Lariat. The previous owner did not have a manual for the vehicle. When I open a door the dome light does not come on. Is it supposed to come on in that vehicle? The exterior light above the rear window that illuminates the bed of the truck does come on when a door is opened so it makes me think that there is a wiring issue with the dome light. I can light the dome lamps with the switches on the lamp housing so I know that it is working and the bulbs are good.

Earlier I change passenger side power mirror and same time i release door jamb electric switch to check it but still no light when connector was released...
I have a 1997 Astro van and recently I shut the back doors (two door version) and now they will not open/unlock. I tried the power locks as well as the key. I read where you can take off the speaker cover in the door and reach thru and unlock/release from there. That did not work either. Not sure WHY Chevy decided not to put interior release handles. Any trick to opening the doors so I can see what the problem is?
