Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Brakes Do Not Work If Running Lights Are On
Apr 4, 2014
Trailer light dont work right. If the running lights are on the brakes dont work. If the running lights are off the brake lights work fine. I cant drive at night this is a huge issue for an up and coming transporter. Its not the trailer lights ive eliminated that with my plug checker. Is it the rely? Blown fuse? Or common ford electrical mess up?

I have an 2003 f150 4x4, 5.4 king ranch. The brakes dont work very well, they dont go to the floor, but just dont do a whole lot when you step on them. 3 different mechanics have tried to fix it without luck. the last one said it need a anti lock part that costs 1200.oo for the part, i just took it home.
148,000 miles on it and i have put brakes on it and had the rotors turned.

I have an 01 F150 SuperCrew with factory keyless entry fobs. I would like to be able to leave my truck running, take the keyless entry fob with me, and then lock the doors. Currently, the keyless entry fobs are disabled when the truck is running and I'd be locked out of the truck. I've had newer Fords that would allow the fobs to stay active with the vehicle running. Do this can be programmed into the truck?

My brother has this truck. Bought it new. Its crowding 200,0000 miles, hes retired and doesn't want a new truck. Problem is this. I have been thru all i know about this subject..........which is not my arena. When you open the door, the dome lights won't come on. Neither door [three door truck] front doors. It has no switch in the jamb............that I can find, that shuts these lights off and on. Least that's the way they were shut off and on; for many years. I looked at the fuse panel schematics in his owners manual. Doesn't show any fuse for these lights, one relay, is there but that's on a different schematic. I am lost everything else ,on that circuit. Push buttons...... on the light...... its self, works. It just doesn't turn those darn interior lights on.

I have a 1997 f-150, and the other week i was driving when my driving lights went out. My Day time running lights went out in the front (DRL) and my driving lights in the rear won't come on either. The dash back light wont come on, and neither with the lights behind the A/C panel. I checked all the fuses, and none were blown, and I still replaced some anyway. And I replaced the actual headlamp switch itself. I have no clue what to do next.

Checked fuses, still can't find short or reason I don't have running lights. Which fuse the running lights operate on, maybe I can trace it backwards from fuse box.

If its a fuse what else will not be working? I have not tested with a test light yet but both door panel lights don't work. All the other interior lights work. 1999 ext cab.

This has been driving nuts for 2 days.... Brake lights dont work. Either pushing pedal or turning on lights. Turn signals work just fine.
Cab/cargo/3rd brake light on back of cab doesn't work either. I have checked/done the following:
- Checked Brake pedal switch for continuity. Tested fine.
- put multi meter on wiring all the way back to brake lights. No drop in voltage.
- changed bulbs. #3157 dual filament.
- positioned steering wheel all the way up and all the way down as suggested on here. No change.
- checked multi function switch (turn signal switch) for wiring issues. None found.
- kicked rear quarter panel for caveman adjustment out of frustration. No change.
What am I missing?

So the other day I slammed on the brakes when traffic came to a halt on the highway. As I slammed down on the pedal, all the sudden the pedal lost pressure and went nearly to the floor, but firmed up just before bottoming out. My brake and ABS lights went on as well. Someone told me there is some kind of failsafe that blocks off the line if it ruptures, so maybe thats what happened? The brakes seem to work fine and are not loosing any more fluid, but the warning lights remain and the taillights do not light up.
So when I got home I took a look. On the fender side under the fuse box there was a lot of brake fluid, and looked like the line going from the master cylinder down to some kind of module (abs thingy?) below it was all rusted.
Today I replaced the line, and bleed the rear brakes. There did appear to be a ponhole in it, right where it would have been spraying the fender side where I saw all the fluid. The pedal is very firm right from the get go and brakes seem to be working fine. However the brake and ABS light remain, and my brake lights still dont come on when I press the pedal. Do I still have a leak somewhere or is there something else I have to do to clear the warnings and get my lights back?

2001 F150 4x4 5.4 gasoline, 200k miles
I have had the vehicle for about 3 years now. One thing I noticed when originally I got it, was that all the lights, headlights, tail lights, dome light, instrument panel lights would pulsate at a steady rate when it was running. It did not matter whether it was idling or doing 70 on the highway.
When I bought the truck, the stock plastic headlights had long since seen better days. So shortly after I bought it, I swapped out the headlights with new high intensity ones. Each side has it's own high voltage power supply. They have worked fine since I installed them.
Tonight I left the truck running when I parked, and I got out and looked at all the lights. Headlights are fine and steady.
All the other lights, parking, instrument, tail, dome, are still pulsing. It is a steady constant pulsation of less than 1/2 second pulse. The only light that was not visibly pulsing was the digital display on the radio.
What could be the culprit here? Ignition noise? I have never replaced the alternator. It may be original. The battery is less than a year old. Again, it's done this pulsing since day 1, when I bought it used and BEFORE I replaced the stock headlights.

I have a 2010 f150 super crew, last night when leaving my baseball game I was shocked to find my running lights and my regular beam lights don't work. My high beams work fine but nothing else. I'm pretty sure the lights are an after market light, but I'm not positive since I purchased it used. I looked in manual to check for a fuse issue but I don't see anything regarding the headlights.

1998 Expedition EB, the lights on my running boards do not work. Checked online and can not locate the fuse for them, checked the lamps and found one that is burnt out. Here's the dumb question, if one bulb is out will that make the other three not work, something like the Christmas light strings?

My running/tail lights and my dashboard lights don't work. Every other light works though(low/high beams, reverse, break). I don't know much about cars but My neighbor just put in a new relay and the running lights worked fine for about a week. Then the dashboard lights started flickering on & off for a day or two & now I don't have dashboard or running lights at all.

My limited has lost it's low beams when the switch is set to head lights but not when set to marker lamps. They still shine at a reduced output then. I've read this may be an issue with the BCM?

The rear driver side running lights don't work, brakes blinker and reverse lights work fine, I tried the panel from the pass side on the right side and the same thing happened everything else but running lights. Where do I start ?
View 2 Replies
My tail lights and dash lights only work when I hit the brakes, or when the left blinker is on. When the blinker is on, the dash lights blink on and off with the blinker. When braking they stay on until I step off of the brake pedal.

I recently purchased a 1994 Camry LE Wagon 3.0 for a reliable work car. I've spent the last week correcting mechanical issues the previous owner didn't. (Tune up, filters, struts.....)
When I start the car the "failed bulb" indicator light located to the left of the Tachometer is off, but as soon as I touch the brake to put the car in "D" the indicator light comes on and stays on until the next time I start it. I have checked EVERY exterior bulb several times with the car in park, not running. In park with the car running and the same in drive. All exterior lights work but this indicator light won't go off when the car is running.
Is there a fuse, sensor or relay somewhere on this car which may be the source of this problem? Wanting to "Turn off the Lights!"

I have a 2003 Ford F150 XLT 5.4 V8 with about 131,000 on it. The 4wd does not work at all. You move the electronic switch no light in the dash no click at the actuator motor no nothing. I took the switch on the dash off and from the dark blue wire I am getting 11.5 volts from there constant.

I've tried everything I can think of and it still runs sluggish.
1. Had dealer change plugs
2. Changed Cop's
3. Cleaned MAF sensor
The 5.4L has slight miss and doesn't respond well at all when trying to pass or going uphills.
