I noticed that my break lights are not working. Checked the fuses . The break light on the cab works fine. The blinkers and emergency flasher work great. i checked the bulbs and nothing wrong there. Truck runs and drives great. But no break lights.
View 7 RepliesI have a 1997 Ford F250. My trailer lights will work, but I have no brake lights or turn lights. I have checked all my fuses and all the fuses are good.
I was told it was probably my trailer tow relay, so I bought it at O'Reilly's, but I don't know which relay it is exactly.
I just want to know which relay number it is so I can replace it. And, if this doesn't sound right, is there something else I should be trying?
I have a '97 F150 and the trailer break lights and turn lights are not working. I have checked the fuses under the dash and hood and all fuses look fine. I have also tested the trailer on another vehicle and checked the wires. Trailer lights worked and wires and connections looked fine. In searching the forum I noticed a similar problem [URL] .... and it was fixed through a third fuse box that was not in the manual. I haven't been a user long enough to send e-mails, but it looks like WhipsnHorses was the one that provided the answer before.
View 12 RepliesA couple times recently, I've been unable to shift my truck out of Park & the brake lights don't work.
After checking the related fuses & finding them to be ok, it all works again.
What might be causing this to happen?
Brake lights do not work. The turn signals work, the flashers work, and the running lights (head lights) work. I checked the bulbs and both filaments light up during the above processes.
I removed the brake switch at the pedal. When I was removing it, I heard some clicking under the dash. I connected the 2 pins with a wire (bypassing the switch), and got a spark a few times along with the clicking sound like a relay,and the brake lights would come on, but now nothing. No sparks, no clicking. The flashers and turn signals and running lights still work.
There are no blown fuses in the fuse box to the left of the steering column. Is there a relay somewhere under the dash just for the brake lights?
I've got a 2001 f150 supercrew 4x4 with the 4.6. I plugged in trailer lights and now I have no brake, turn signal, or hazard lights. I've checked fuses and none are blown.
View 8 RepliesJust Bought 97 Ranger 2.3L 5 speed. Everything worked except interior cab light and cab brake light. Also the wipers and A/C blower only work on highest speed when I bought it. I assumed there was a problem with the switches, bulbs and/or fuses. But when I picked it up last evening I noticed the dash lights were very dim on the way home. Then when I got home I shut everything off and removed the key. I then opened the drivers door and touched the brake pedal and the dash lights and the parking lights came on along with the "key in ignition" bell alarm each time I touch the brake pedal. If I close the door the dash and parking lights come on but the key in ignition does not sound. With so many things malfunctioning I don't know where to start.
View 7 RepliesI have a '97 AWD and my brake light, turn signals and emergency flasher have stopped working. I've checked all the bulbs, checked all the fuses (under the dash) replaced the flasher just in front of the fuse box...nothing. All the running lights work, and the 3rd brake light above the rear door window works.
View 3 RepliesThis is for a '99 Expedition. The brake lights are not functioning. Here's what I've done:
1. All known related fuses have been checked and appear to be intact.
2. Third brake light over the rear gate does not function, either.
3. Brake light bulb filaments appear to be intact.
4. Brake (BOO) switch was replaced, but problem was not corrected.
5. All other functions on multi-function switch (blinkers, wipers, high beams, windshield wipers) work properly.
6. Tilt steering wheel was raised and lowered, and multi-function switch functions were conducted WHILE brake pedal was depressed, but brake lights did NOT come on.
I'm guessing it could be a wire that has shorted out. It's also possible that I haven't checked the correct fuse or relay. For the latter, what isthe actual descriptor of the fuse that controls power flowing to the brake lights?
I have an automatic 5.4L (L code) 2000 Ford F-150 and I am having problems with the reverse lights not working when I place the transmission in reverse. Fuse #5 in the passenger compartment fuse panel is good and both reverse lamps are good as well. I have also metered the LB/PK input wire at DTR sensor and it is reading 12 volts when the ignition is in the on position. I have also the metered the BK/PK wire output wire at the DTR and this wire also reads 12 volts when I place the transmission in reverse. I have checked continuity from the BK/PK wire at DTR to the BK/PK wire at the reverse lamp socket and I do not have continuity. I then ran a fused jumper wire from the BK/PK wire directly to the BK/PK wire at the reverse lamp socket and the lamps will light up when I place the transmission in reverse and will also turn off when the transmission is placed back in park. So it seems that the DTR is not defective. I'm not sure what else to check. Obviously the BK/PK circuit is open at some point between the DTR and the reverse lamp socket, but I'm wondering if there is something else that I need to check. The vehicle is also equipped with a factory trailer tow package

View 2 RepliesOur son has a 97 Chevy C/K pickup truck and told me about a problem that I thought was easy to solve, and we tried, but it wasn't. The driver's side front turn signal flashes fast. I checked the rear lights on that side and the turn signal wasn't working at all, let alone the tail lights, so I replaced the bulbs. They're the kind with the 2 filaments. I noticed the old bulbs were covered with some nasty yellow corrosion. Now the turn signal problem is the same and still no brake light on that side but he has tail lights at night. I tried to clean up the corrosion in the circuit board (none on the bottom light, which is the reverse light) with a neighbor's wire brush but it didn't change anything, so he suggested I change the circuit board.
View 6 RepliesSo my brake lights aren't working on my 1997 Buick Park Avenue, not even my middle one. All my bulbs, fuses, relays are good. My tail lights and hazards work fine. The circuit has continuity when the pedal is pressed and power going into the brake switch when the pedal is not pressed, but when pressed it has no power going in or out it just cuts off. I figured it was probably a ground then but I checked and all of the grounds are good.

I have no trailer lights. I have checked all of the fuses. I cecked for voltage and am reading 0v what am I missing?
I have a 1997 F150 5.4L 2wd long bed w/ tow package.
Right (passenger) turn signal/brake light is not illuminating. The tail light on the right side does illuminate when headlights are on. (Same Bulb) All other lights are functioning properly.
When the MFS is in the right turn position the right arrow on the dash flashes and clicks faster than normal.
This happened about a month ago and it turned out to be a blown fuse. The fuse was for the trailer lighting and right turn/stop light, found in the small fuse box under the hood that only holds 2 fuses. Problem solved temporarily...
Now the issue is back, Here are some things I've tried so far:
Replaced the fuse again; Turns out the fuse didn't blow this time, but I tried a new one anyway.
Cleaned the ground for the rear light wiring harness.
Replaced the bulb.
Replaced the relay.
Checked continuity on multi-function switch, right turn position reads 2.8 ohms IIRC
Repaired pin #5 on the multi-function switch wiring connector (wire backed out, right turn related)
Replaced the bulb socket.
Inspected the wiring for broken insulation/exposed wires from that socket to under the hood, didn't find anything exposed. All wires are still in the loom.
I replaced this wiring harness and wiring looms about 6 months ago because the previous owner had done a hideous splice job for unknown reasons, so it should be ok. Should I get a new multi-function switch, or try something else? If the switch doesn't work what's the next step?
This has been driving nuts for 2 days.... Brake lights dont work. Either pushing pedal or turning on lights. Turn signals work just fine.
Cab/cargo/3rd brake light on back of cab doesn't work either. I have checked/done the following:
- Checked Brake pedal switch for continuity. Tested fine.
- put multi meter on wiring all the way back to brake lights. No drop in voltage.
- changed bulbs. #3157 dual filament.
- positioned steering wheel all the way up and all the way down as suggested on here. No change.
- checked multi function switch (turn signal switch) for wiring issues. None found.
- kicked rear quarter panel for caveman adjustment out of frustration. No change.
What am I missing?
I am working on this 97 F150 with the EOTF. It is not doing anything. When i turn the key on, no light on the dash comes on. When i operated the 4wd switch, nothing happens, no lights on the dash, no relay clicks or transfer case noise, etc. It has a new t case motor, the switch tests out good. I have researched for a while, and either find people with different symptoms or the original poster never updated with what the fix was. I am unsure where to go at this point, i am suspect of the GEM or the t case relay, but don't want to go replacing stuff without a basis for going so. Ive tested for voltage at the switch as well and it has 5 volts at pin 3.
View 13 RepliesI have a 1997 ford f-150 flareside 4x4 and the interior lights have not worked since I purchased the truck.I checked the bulb and it was burnt out so I replaced it and still does not work.
The truck was hit on the 3rd door on the passenger side before I bought it and I think they may have done something to keep the interior light from coming on by accident when not shutting the door all the way.
I checked the number 14 fuse which is where I think the interior fuse it on this truck, what I could check to be my problem?
I have a 2000 F-150 and my lights to my gauges and heater controls quit working. I checked all the fuses inside and under the hood. All good. I swapped a few relays around and no luck. I tried replacing the headlight switch and that did not work. I checked power to the gauges from the headlight switch and there is no power, I then ran a hot wire to the wire that powers the gauge lamps and they do light up, so it is not a bulb issue. I assume I am not getting power, but do not know where else to look?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2002 F150 FX4 Lariat, and last week while driving at night with the light switch turned to auto lamp the lights suddenly started turning on and off rapidly and there was a clicking noise, which I assume was a relay cutting out. I turned the headlamp switch to the on position and the lights stayed on. When I got home the lights would not turn off, and when I turned it to autolamp the blinking started again, but in any other position the lights stayed on. I had to unhook the battery. I then purchased a new headlamp switch and my ford mechanic buddy installed it, but now the autolamp feature will not work. Is there a relay that may have got cooked?
View 1 RepliesI have replaced the brake light switch two times - still nothing going on with the brake lights. The turn signals and taillights work fine (replaced all the bulbs anyway). For what it's worth, what made me start this repair was that the third light was coming on, but not the brake lights.
That is when I went to the dealer and bought a new brake light switch. After installing that, the third light didn't work...so, I downgraded what I had to begin with, it seems. Thought maybe I had done something to break it when I installed it, which is why I bought another one. As far as I'm concerned, I followed the installation instructions meticulously, yet still nothing.
I have also pulled all the fuses in the access panel by driver's door and inspected them.
