2000 f150 supercab 4x4 offroad. Sometimes in a very strong wind, I get a lot of air noise around the doors which is up in the window area. I occasionally get it if I haven't got the back half door shut tight.
Just wondering if there is a way to puff up those door seals without replacing them? Inject them with something or use a hair dryer to heat them?
So I just installed a fresh 4.6 long-block in my '98 4x4 xlt and I have a noise coming from the manifold area. Thought it was possibly valves or timing chain. Took it to dealer and they diagnosed it as the Intake Manifold Runner Control. Never heard of it!!! Problem is, I can't find that part for this motor. Is it inside the intake? Do I have to replace the whole intake? Dealer didn't tell me, once I said I would do the work myself.
View 3 RepliesI have a 99 F150 4x4 4.6L automatic trans. The truck has 260,000 miles on it. Saturday, while going down the interstate, this chirping noise started up from the rear. When I got home I jacked the rear up and spun the wheels while listening. There is a chirping noise that, as best as I can tell is coming from around the front of the driveshaft around the u-joint area. I've never known of a u-joint to make this type of noise before. There is no vibration or anything, just the noise. The frequency of the noise increases and decreases as I speed up and slow down. I don't think it's coming from the transmission, but it's hard to tell, as everything echoes. I couldn't imaging the driveshaft itself making this noise, but I guess it's possible.
View 12 RepliesI've got sort of a howl going on, was thinking rear end, but when i jacked up the wheels and spun the driveshaft the noise seemed to come from the transfer case area. I haven't had a chance to check the fluid yet, could it be a bearing in the t-case? Its only when i'm on the gas if i let off its gone. 2001 f150 super crew 4x4

Some weeks ago a noise started that sounded like fan blades striking against heavy plastic fan guard. At first I thought it was coming from the transmission/Transfer case area but after a few weeks of listening to I now believe it's coming from behind the dash area, however, I can't find any reason for it be from there.
The noise usually starts around 45 MPH
I checked the heater fan and it appears to be Okay. I don't know of any other fans in that area.
Have a noise coming from the serpentine area. Sometimes it's a bit of a chirping, other times it's almost like a solid grind.
I pulled the belt off and the idler pulley had a bit of play so I replaced that. The tensioner pulley felt fine. I'm suspecting the fan clutch, as the noise only appears after the clutch has disengaged the fan (although it could be this is just masking the other noise because I've got a heavy duty / loud fan clutch setup).
How can I be sure that the fan clutch is the culprit before replacing it?
Got a 1999 ford f150 2 wheel drive. I have replaced both upper and lower control arms with ball joints on both sides. New shocks, new stablelizer links, new inner and outer tie rod ends. Also, a new steering gear and i still have popping noise coming from both sides around the wheel area when i enter or leave out of drive ways, turning, or running in a hole. Doesn't do in going straight. I don't know what else to do. Driving me insane. I keep spending money on this truck and still where i first started.
View 9 RepliesI have a 97 250 LD 5.4 that suddenly has a grinding noise coming from the area where the transmission and motor meet. I took the inspection plate off the transmission and can look up inside there and see everything moving. I use a screw driver and if I flex the plate that mounts between the transmission and the motor I am able to get the noise to quiet down until I release the screwdriver and then the plate flexes back and scrapes making the noise again.
I can not see where the plate is grinding when I look up inside there. I can't figure out how to fix this.... Why it would just start doing this on its own as none of the bolts on the housing have been removed except for the two bolts that hold the starter on. (Changed it a couple of weeks ago). Thought about loosening the bolts on the tranny housing but I'm afraid that it would open me up to further problems???
The weather here in AB Canada is very cold lately -30oC. I have noticed a whistling noise from the front window defrost area. The auto feature also annoys me as the fan goes full throttle when I start the vehicle and it isn't even warm. I wish it would scale up as the engine was warm only. As well, I am finding the inside of my t-reg fogs easily. Yes it's cold, and I do park in a heated garage, but even after being out for a while, I still get some fogging.
View 3 Replies2002 super crew. My key fob will unlock the doors but it will not lock the doors even though lights blink and horn honks like it is locked. Also on all doors the unlock buttons works but all of the lock buttons do nothing. At first I though just maybe had 1 bad lock but why would all the doors start doing this at once?..
View 7 RepliesI have a rather annoying high pitched tone coming from the front passengers side widow/mirror area. The dealer says it's normal wind noise from the mirror and can't do anything about it. I think they are just being lazy, and I think it's actually a window seal issue.
Here are more details; I hear the noise typically only at speeds above 60-65mph, although I have heard it as low as 40mph, but was driving into a head wind (so the combined air speed was about the same). It is a high-pitched, high-frequency noise that almost sounds like a continuous tone. It is loud enough to be annoying even with the radio on at moderate volume. It will disappear completely at speeds lower than mentioned above. It is localized only to that one side. The drivers side mirror/window is silent (for this issue at least) no matter what speed I am going.
A recent road trip gave enough frustration on this issue to make me begin experimenting. I taped up various mirror seams in a number of configurations and none alleviated the noise. At one point I rolled down the window about an inch to see If I could hear it more clearly from the window. The noise disappeared but I thought the turbulent wind noise at that speed might be masking it. So I rolled the window up and then just *tapped* the switch down the slightest amount and to my surprise the high-pitched noise disappeared completely, yet I did not open it enough to hear regular wind noise. This all leads me to highly suspect a window seal issue, and not mirror noise at all. Cracking the seal so slightly must allow the pressure to equalize canceling out the noise.
When I took it in for the issue they say (of course) "Can not replicate, wind noise from mirror within factory spec, no action taken" and something about cracking the window "re-aligns the flow over the mirror into the cabin reducing the noise" sounds because the drivers side is as silent as the grave, and the mirrors are symmetrical to my knowledge.
When I open the doors, my dome light does not come on. How can i fix this? Also, my truck has cruise control, when i set it and it engages, no indicator light comes on on the dash. Is that normal?

I have jammed rear doors on my 1999 Ford F-150 XLT 2wd. Opened when I bought the truck a year ago, no accidents or damage since, but first one door, then the other decided to not open. Will I have to pull the interior door panel off to get at the mechanism ?
View 10 RepliesI have a 2005 Avalon Limited. A couple of weeks ago I put the car in reverse and I started hearing this loud buzzing noise coming from the rear window area. I narrow it down to the rear window sunshade. It also makes this noise when pressing the button to lower the shade and maybe sometimes rising it. I know it has something to do with the relay or motor when the signal is sent to it to lower it, because a lower the shade signal is sent when the car is put into reverse or button is pushed. How to find the motor or relay without taking the rear seat out. Right now I would rather just disconnect it to stop the annoying buzzing noise. Where can I find a service/maintence manual to maybe find out how to disconnect it.
View 14 Replies2012 Accent. I have a wind noise issue. I don't mean that it's just loud. The driver's side upper window area has a crazy noise. It's a high pitched (is there another kind?) whistle. It is very inconsistent. I can not give any precise circumstance under which it appears, but it is definitely speed related. It appears from about 65-70 mph. But only sometimes. It also seems more common with cross winds, but it's hard to say for sure. I can not for the life of me pinpoint the origin. It seems to be around head level on the driver's door.

View 14 RepliesBought truck new in 1997, 4 cylinder, 5 speed, manual transmission, 127K miles. In January developed a clanking noise in the engine area. Do not have a tach but hear the sound when engine is cold. Raise rpm up to whatever is equivalent to 20 mph in second gear. Anything much above or below this speed, sound goes away. Hear it the loudest when I am under the vehicle. Sounds like marbles in the exhaust system. My mechanic said it is not in the exhaust but in the front engine area. Said this vehicle is know to have this problem and there is no inexpensive fix. Sound goes away when engine runs for about 15 minutes.
View 2 Replies2008 crew cab - passenger front window will not respond at all from master driver side switch. from the passenger side switch it goes down only. I purchased new regulator/motor assembly on advise from an experienced mechanic and a service manager from a Ford dealership. The new motor does the same thing - down but not up and only from the passenger switch. An Autozone manager said that was wrong advise. that if the motor went in one direction it was fine and it was a switch problem. I purchased a new main driver side master switch....same problem.
